Veteran Ghanaian media personality Joyce Akumaa Dongotey-Padi, popularly known as Akumaa Mama Zimbi, has opened up about the inspiration and effort behind her signature headscarf during a candid conversation on The Delay Show with Deloris Frimpong Manso.

Famed for her vibrant and flamboyant fashion sense, Mama Zimbi revealed that her unique headscarf style is no ordinary wrap.

According to her, she begins with four yards of rich purple fabric as the base and then adds another four yards of colourful African print, bringing the total to eight yards.

“This special eight-yard combination has become my signature. Sometimes, I go all out and wear twelve yards, though it gets very heavy,” she explained with a smile.

Beyond her striking appearance, her outspoken personality also draws deeply from her roots.

Proudly Krobo and a daughter of a late policeman, Mama Zimbi often incorporates traditional African beads into her accessories, reflecting her cultural heritage.

The celebrated broadcaster also shared her secret to maintaining her radiant, youthful look, attributing it to her diet.

“I eat natural, locally sourced foods packed with nutrients. Our traditional foods are the best for health and beauty,” she noted.
