Adombi Serwaa, mother of Ghanaian actress and socialite Efia Odo, has described a period of intense emotional pressure she went through after her daughter became publicly involved in politics, saying it left her constantly worried about her family’s safety.
During a recent discussion on UTV’s United Showbiz, she recounted that she was outside Ghana when news, videos, and online discussions about Efia Odo’s political activities began circulating widely. According to her, the constant updates from different people quickly turned into anxiety.
“I wasn’t here in Ghana, but I was hearing everything. Elders were also calling me. I was unable to sleep well out of fear. I feared for my daughter’s life,” she said.
As the situation escalated, she said she felt compelled to intervene directly and speak to her daughter about stepping back from politics.
“I told Efia Odo I didn’t want to lose her, so if she loves me, she shouldn’t involve herself. I would allow her to do anything she wants but not politics,” she stated.
She emphasised that her concern was not about public attention or financial opportunity, but about peace of mind and personal safety.
“Money can’t buy my life and my happiness. If there’s peace in the money I’m being offered, I will take it, but if not, I don’t want it. No money can buy the love I have for my daughter,” she stressed.
Adombi Serwaa also revealed that she personally received warnings from individuals who urged her to advise Efia Odo to pull out of political engagement.
“A lot of people threatened me that if I didn’t advise my daughter to stop her involvement in politics, something would happen to her,” she said.
Although she is not highly active on social media, she explained that the volume of videos and messages eventually made it impossible for her to ignore what was happening.
“I don’t usually follow the things going on social media because of my busy schedule. So when they started sending the videos to me, I decided to stand firm and talk to my daughter. The amazing part is when I spoke to her, she listened,” she disclosed.
Reflecting on the experience, she admitted it has changed how she views politics entirely when it comes to her children.
“I don’t think I would ever allow any of my children to go into politics because of what I’ve seen. For now, I don’t know, but if it’s decent and there’s peace, I might consider,” Efia Odo’s mother further stated.
