Popular Ghanaian rapper, Michael Owusu Addo, well known as Sarkodie, has come under heavy criticism following one of his interviews in Nigeria.

During his interaction with The Beat FM’s Osikhena Dirisu, the OAP asserted that Sarkodie has not been celebrated enough despite his achievements.

“A whole lot has been happening as regards to your sound and you, and a whole lot of people. I think you did not get a lot of credit as you supposed to…I don’t know if it’s the way the Ghanaian music industry is structured or set up.

“You know how maybe when you sing too much for somebody, they just be like ‘okay, yeah, yeah, we know him, he will always put out fire music,’ and it just turns to this ‘move on.’ From the BETs to the things you have done, especially putting the Ghanaian music industry on the map, I don’t think you are getting credit enough,” he said.

Osikhena further stated: “Because look at the way Nigerians actually celebrate their own when there is Davido and Wizkid. But you know I look at Ghana, and most times, you say: ‘oh Sarkodie’ and it’s just ‘yeah.’ So, why do you think that is?

“It’s huge for you a Ghanaian artiste to sell out the Apollo. It’s almost like we don’t hear it. I feel like we recognize how talented you are and what you are doing for – not just Ghanaian music – African music. And I think that our Ghanaian brothers and sisters don’t know what they have, and they should show you so much love.”

In his response to what the Nigerian OAP said, Sarkodie averred, “This minute, you are trying to get me speechless. Everything I want to say is what you are saying.”

“I think for the past week or something, I was on a media tour, and I had a conversation…but you are saying it. It’s kind of dicey when it’s coming from me because I have friends, and they don’t want to feel a certain kind of way. From what you said, I could say I do get support from Ghanaians, just that they should really hold on to moments and cherish it,” the Sarkcess Music boss added.

Sarkodie is one of the musicians who have been cherished by many Ghanaian music fans.

His relevance in the music business for a long time should tell him how Ghanaians love and cherish his craft.

The venue of his Rapperholic Concerts is always filled to capacity. On several occasions, some of us have even urged him to get a bigger venue.

Even in the era of COVID-19, Ghanaians showed him, massive love, when he organized a virtual concert. The hosting site of the concert even crashed due to the huge number of people who signed up to view the virtual concert.

Recently, his ‘No Pressure’ album was massively supported by Ghanaians. If you would recall, tickets for the release party in Kumasi was sold out before the day.

He shouldn’t blame Ghanaians after Burna Boy was credited for being the first African artiste to fill the Apollo Theatre. Sarkodie should have set the record straight through a press statement or a publication from his media team or publicist.

We have been holding him up in his glory days!

Because Ghanaians hold on to moments, we share the support among talents who are working hard to put Ghana on the map.

The Ghanaian media are also doing their part.

King Sark, Ghanaians cherish our stars and we hold on to moments.
