As the countdown begins toward the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards, Ghanaian singer Kuami Eugene has thrown his support behind Medikal in the highly anticipated Artiste of the Year race.
In an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM on May 7, 2026, Kuami Eugene said this year’s competition stands out as one of the toughest in recent memory, noting the strong presence of both Medikal and Wendy Shay across the music scene during the review period.
He pointed to the impact of their releases, naming Medikal’s “Shoulder” and Wendy Shay’s “Too Late” as two of the most influential songs of 2025 that dominated airwaves and conversations nationwide.
Still, Kuami Eugene believes the deciding factor could come down to Medikal’s relationship with the public and the strength of his fanbase.
“I think Medikal might win because besides the fact that he’s a good musician, he has the masses behind him. Wendy Shay has the masses as well, but the ambience of Medikal, the masses, it’s bigger. So, if he gets a successful year, it reflects in his work,” he said.

He further stressed that the outcome will ultimately rest in the hands of voters, urging music lovers to carefully consider the impact and consistency of each nominee before making their choice.
Discussions around the Artiste of the Year category have grown more intense in recent weeks, with opinions split among industry watchers over whether Medikal, Wendy Shay, or Black Sherif should take home the top prize.
This year’s Artiste of the Year race at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards also includes Stonebwoy, Sarkodie and Diana Hamilton, with the ceremony set for May 9, 2026.
