Ghanaian media personality Ohemaa Woyeje has opened up about why she prefers giving birth in Europe rather than in Ghana, citing differences in maternity care, postnatal support, and child welfare systems.
Speaking in an interview with MzGee, Ohemaa Woyeje explained that her childbirth experiences abroad were significantly different from what she had observed in Ghanaian healthcare facilities.
According to her, the level of care and support given to mothers in Europe made the experience more comfortable and reassuring.
“Over and over, I would choose Europe,” she stated during the interview.
Ohemaa Woyeje noted that one of the major differences she observed involved how childbirth decisions are handled in hospitals.
“In Ghana, they typically advise that we go for CS when there is no underlying condition,” she said, referring to Caesarean Section deliveries.
She contrasted that experience with Europe, where she claimed medical professionals encouraged natural childbirth unless surgery became medically necessary.
The broadcaster also praised the postnatal care systems in Europe, describing them as more organised and supportive for mothers and newborns.
“They provide almost everything, the care, the respect, you can’t describe it all,” she said.
According to her, her husband was allowed to stay actively involved throughout the delivery and recovery process, something she appreciated deeply.
Ohemaa Woyeje further highlighted the financial and social support systems available to families abroad.
“The system takes care of them and gives them money,” she added.
She explained that her children have had the opportunity to live both in Ghana and in Europe, and that exposure to the two environments greatly shaped her perspective on childbirth and parenting support systems.
