Fame Doesn’t Pay The Bills – Adwoa Smart Discloses

Veteran Ghanaian actress, Belinda Naa Ode Oku, famously known as Adwoa Smart, has disclosed the harsh realities behind her decades-long career in Ghana’s entertainment industry.

Despite becoming a household name in the early 2000s and appearing in numerous popular productions, Adwoa Smart revealed she continues to face serious financial struggles, largely due to assumptions and systemic issues within the film industry.

“Where I stay is not good enough. When my siblings tell people we are related, they will be wondering if it’s true. Then they will start making assumptions that we are rich,” she said in a heartfelt interview with Kwaku Manu.

According to the screen legend, public perception rarely matches her lived reality. Fame, she said, often leads people to create illusions about a lavish lifestyle she simply does not have.

“Some people also think I live in a mansion at Trassaco. Some too think if it’s not Trassaco, then I live in the rich estates and living life. It’s never been easy for me.”

The actress didn’t hold back when addressing the root of the problem, pointing fingers at some film producers who she says exploit actors by withholding payment.

“The fact that some producers wouldn’t want to pay after working for them. They would call you to come and shoot for them, then they will say they will pay after the shoot but they never pay.”

Her comments also shed light on a broader issue of financial injustice in the industry, which she believes continues even after an actor’s passing.

“Even most of the actors who are late, the producers owe them. People will always see you on the screen but you don’t have money.”

Socrate Safo Critiques YouTube Dependency, Urges Film Industry To Build Stronger Distribution Network

Ghanaian filmmaker, Socrate Safo, has called for an urgent overhaul of the nation’s film distribution system. He argued that the overreliance on platforms like YouTube is limiting the industry’s growth and profitability.

During a discussion with Kwame Dadzie on Hitz FM, Safo emphasized that Ghana’s movie industry must adopt a more sustainable and regulated distribution framework if it hopes to thrive and compete internationally.

“As an industry, let’s sit and come up with a structured channel of distribution. Check every country that has developed; they didn’t start from where we see them today. They had challenges, and then they came up with regulations to fix them. As we speak now, the biggest challenge facing the industry is the channel of distribution,” Socrate said.

He noted that successful film industries around the world only achieved growth after resolving similar structural issues, particularly around how content reaches audiences.

According to Safo, Ghana has yet to confront this core problem, leaving local filmmakers with limited and often unprofitable options once production wraps.

He criticized the widespread perception that YouTube offers a viable revenue stream for film creators, arguing that the reality is far less lucrative than many assume.

“When we finish a film, how do we distribute it? Is YouTube a profitable channel of distribution? Just because someone claims to be making money on YouTube, everyone is following that path. But when you talk to them, most of them aren’t actually making money,” Socrate Safo further stated.

I bought the Lamborghini Urus for $150,000, I didn’t steal it – Shatta Wale speaks

Shatta Wale has publicly denied any association with Nana Kwabena Amuah, amid swirling controversies surrounding the acquisition of a luxury Lamborghini Urus vehicle.

In a candid and emotionally charged TikTok live session, the self-acclaimed “Dancehall King” addressed the matter head-on, stating emphatically that he has never met or interacted with Nana Kwabena Amuah and should not be dragged into issues involving him.

“I don’t know him. I have never crossed paths with Nana Kwabena Amuah,” Shatta Wale declared.

The controversy stems from the purchase of a Lamborghini Urus, which Shatta Wale claims to have bought for $150,000.

According to the musician, the transaction was conducted through Adu Boahen, the former Director of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), and not through any third party linked to the ongoing investigations.

Shatta Wale stressed that his role in the matter is purely that of a buyer who paid what was required and had no prior knowledge of any wrongdoing connected to the sale or seller.

Adding to the intrigue, the dancehall star revealed a tense encounter with Mr. Raymond Archer, the current Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).

Shatta Wale claims that Archer personally warned him about Adu Boahen’s impending legal troubles.

“Mr. Raymond Archer told me point-blank that Adu Boahen is going down very soon. He even asked if I wanted to go down with him,” Shatta Wale recounted during the live session.

KOD Opposes New Tribute Songs For Daddy Lumba

0

Presidential Adviser on Diaspora Affairs, Kofi Okyere Darko, well-known as KOD, has called on Ghana’s music industry to resist the urge to produce tribute songs for the late Highlife icon, Daddy Lumba.

Taking to Facebook, KOD expressed strong reservations about posthumous musical tributes, arguing that such efforts are not only unnecessary but would fail to capture the essence of the legend’s legacy.

“Creating a tribute song for Daddy Lumba won’t be easy and should not be encouraged… he already wrote his own while he was still with us. His music said it all long before we ever had to say goodbye,” KOD wrote.

The statement comes amid growing public calls for the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) to spearhead tribute recordings, an increasingly common tradition following the deaths of iconic musicians.

But for KOD, who knew Lumba both personally and professionally, no tribute could ever match the authenticity and emotional weight of the late star’s own body of work. To him, Daddy Lumba’s vast catalogue speaks louder than any new homage ever could.

Oheneni Adazoa Breaks Silence on Pregnancy Rumours: “I Will Never Hide My Child”

0

Ghanaian media personality, Oheneni Adazoa, has addressed swirling rumours suggesting that she is pregnant or has secretly given birth, firmly denying the claims in a heartfelt interview on Smart Ghana TV.

Known for her poise and commanding presence on social issues, Oheneni did not mince words as she debunked the speculation.

In the interview with SMART TV, she emphatically stated that there is no truth to the reports and questioned why she would ever hide such a monumental blessing.

“They say I have given birth but I’m hiding it — for what exactly?” she asked, visibly puzzled.

“As you see me sitting before you, am I pregnant?”

Oheneni, who has long captured the admiration of viewers with her authenticity, explained that she chose not to publicly deny the rumours earlier because she believes in the power of truth revealing itself.

“Sometimes, there are certain things you don’t rush to explain. You let Ghanaians verify for themselves. Seeing, as they say, is believing,” she remarked.

The media personality went further to reveal the emotional and spiritual weight the rumours carry, especially given her personal journey through fertility challenges.

She disclosed that she has been married for 21 years and has undergone six separate In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) procedures — a journey filled with pain, faith, and hope.

“You want me to hide my child? After 21 years and six IVFs? Never. If I do that, even God would be disappointed in me,” she said with emotion.

Oheneni Adazoa passionately stated that if she ever has a child, she would not only make it known, but would go as far as showcasing the child on billboards across the country to glorify what she describes as “God’s miraculous power.”

“I will never give birth and hide my child. God forbid. I will put my child on billboards for everyone to see what God can do,” she declared.
