Nana Poku Ashis, manager of renowned highlife artiste Kwabena Kwabena, has called on Charterhouse to spearhead a nationwide celebration honouring the late highlife icon Daddy Lumba. He believes a befitting tribute should be held before the musician’s burial.

During an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Daybreak Hitz, Ashis proposed a star-studded concert, similar to the Ghana Music Awards, where artistes would perform Lumba’s songs in homage to his legacy.

“The iconic Lumba needs a national celebration and I am urging Charterhouse to lead this campaign. Try and put together an event where we will have our stars come and honour the legend,” he said.

Ashis emphasized the urgency of organizing the tribute before the funeral and predicted the event would draw massive public support.

“Before his burial, we should do something of that sort where we see [maybe] a Fameye or Kwabena Kwabena perform a Lumba song just like they do at the Ghana Music Awards. Even if it is a paid event, I am sure it will be a sold-out event,” he added.

Reflecting on Lumba’s cultural influence, Ashis recounted a conversation with a friend who remarked that the late musician was the only entertainer successive governments “feared.” According to Ashis, Lumba maintained a unique political neutrality that gave him a powerful presence across political lines.

“He is that guy that could be with you now, the next moment he was with the other person. And nobody dared touch Lumba. Other people did political songs and they were touched but he did and nothing happened to him.”

Charles Kwadwo Fosu, known widely as Daddy Lumba, passed away on July 26, 2025, after a brief illness. Daddy Lumba Told Me I Was A Star And Would Be Just Like Him – Ofori Amponsah Recalls

Ofori Amponsah has opened up about a pivotal moment early in his music journey, revealing how a chance encounter with Daddy Lumba not only validated his talent but also set him on the path to success.

In a video shared on TikTok, the Ghanaian artiste recalled how his music career nearly derailed before it began, all because of doubt cast by someone who believed Daddy Lumba would never support him.

“I took my demo to a music store, I met a guy, and I told him to listen to the demo and give me feedback. The guy listened to the songs and surprisingly asked me if I was the one who sang it. When I said yes, he said that’s a powerful song so I should take the songs to Daddy Lumba,” he recounted.

Encouraged by that response, he tried to find a way to meet the music icon. But the road wasn’t smooth.

“I asked the guy where I would meet him, he said Daddy Lumba was around and helping the young ones so I can try my luck. When I went to submit my demo, I met a man and the man nearly discouraged me, saying Daddy Lumba wouldn’t help me so I should forget about it,” Ofori divulged.

Despite that warning, his determination didn’t waver. Days later, he received word that Daddy Lumba wanted to see him in person.

“I was later called that Daddy Lumba wanted to see me, so I went inside. I saw him but he didn’t say a word to me and went inside. I started wondering if I’d done something wrong.”

Then came a life-changing gesture. Daddy Lumba not only listened to his work but offered both encouragement and financial support.

“When he came back, he brought an envelope, handed it over to me and it was 5 million old currency. Then he said I should use the money for demos, I’m a star and I will become like him. I was shocked because I’ve suffered for three years. He said I should do a new song, and he will produce me.”

According to Ofori Amponsah, what followed was a six-year-long mentorship under Daddy Lumba, which helped mould him into a star.

“Meeting Daddy Lumba from the beginning, things were not smooth as people think. I was under him for almost six years. We signed contract two months after meeting him, but it took six years for me to come out. I never gave up and I later got the opportunity to get closer to him,” he stated.

Okyeame Kwame Urges Cultural Education In Schools To Preserve Ghanaian Identity

Ghanaian rapper, Okyeame Kwame, has urged a deeper national conversation about how traditional practices are portrayed, especially within educational spaces and the creative industries.

During an interview on Hitz FM, the rapper recounted a personal story involving his son’s classroom experience with an art teacher. The topic was body painting, but the language used struck a nerve.

“I think they were discussing body painting and what it was used for. And the art teacher said that when a priest paints himself, he is invoking evil spirits. And then my son thought back and said, No, no, no, it is not fetish. It is a traditional priest. Once you call it fetish, you have marginalised it,” he explained.

Okyeame Kwame emphasized that such mischaracterizations do more than distort facts, they strip vital cultural roles of their dignity and legitimacy.

“And how is it that the priest, the person telling people to clean their cities, advising the chief, who knows herbs, and understands the culture, and is a custodian of traditional artifacts and wisdom? How is he using bad spirits to do good things in the community? So this is what I was talking about,” he continued.

The incident, he said, highlights the need to properly integrate Ghana’s cultural context into the school system.

“I think that it is very, very important that we get to understand our tradition well. And cultural relevance and its nuances must be taught in schools so that we know who we are. Because without that, our identity is lost in this whole cosmopolitan matrix,” he added.

In a separate conversation with Graphic Showbiz, the rapper went further, calling for deliberate cultural representation in modern creative expressions, including music, digital media, film, and fashion.

According to him, chieftaincy and local customs must move beyond ceremonial appearances and become living parts of everyday life.

“Bringing chieftaincy into pop culture is crucial. If our music, visuals and storytelling can project our traditions in relatable and modern ways, we will help the next generation understand who they are,” he said.

He cautioned against allowing modern institutions and media to erode cultural heritage.

“If we continue to allow our institutions and our media to dilute or shame our cultural symbols, we risk losing our soul as a people. It’s not enough to celebrate culture on Independence Day alone. It must be an everyday reality,” he warned.

Okyeame Kwame further challenged artistes and creatives to revitalize traditional identity through innovative storytelling.

“Our culture is not outdated. It is rich, it is meaningful and it can be ‘cool’ if presented creatively. Let’s make chieftaincy ‘cool’ again,” he averred.

All the people Roman Father managed are dead – Diana Asamoah

0

Ghanaian gospel singer, Diana Asamoah, has stirred controversy after openly questioning why all the influential people Roman Father has managed are dead.

Speaking on Angel FM, Diana Asamoah expressed deep concern over what she described as a “worrisome pattern” surrounding Roman Father’s professional associations.

According to Diana, it is strange and unsettling that two notable personalities, Madam Akua Donkor and Charles Kwadwo Fosu, widely known as Daddy Lumba all died shortly after Roman Father became affiliated with them.

“I still don’t understand why anyone Roman Father manages dies within a short time. First, it was Akua Donkor, and now it’s Daddy Lumba,” Diana Asamoah stated.

She recalled that Akua Donkor died just after she unveiled Roman Father as her running mate

“Not long after managing Akua Donkor, she passed away under unclear circumstances. Then he becomes the official manager of Daddy Lumba, and within months, Lumba is also gone. Why?” she asked.

While the gospel musician stopped short of making direct accusations, she suggested that the public and relevant authorities should begin to question these strange coincidences.

Diana Asamoah Issues Stern Warning to Parents Ahead of Lilwin’s “Ibrahim Traoré” Movie Premiere

Renowned gospel musician Diana Asamoah has issued a serious caution to parents across Ghana ahead of the highly anticipated premiere of Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin’s new film, Ibrahim Traoré, slated for August 2, 2025.

Speaking in an interview on Angel FM, the outspoken singer urged parents to prioritize the safety and whereabouts of their children, alleging that history may repeat itself if proper care is not taken.

Diana Asamoah alleged that the tragic accident that occurred before the premiere of Lilwin’s earlier movie, A Country Called Ghana, was spiritually influenced, and she claimed that a young boy was used for ritual purposes to ensure the film’s success.

“Before his last premiere, a child tragically died—and that wasn’t ordinary. It was spiritual. Lilwin sacrificed that child for success,” Diana said firmly during the broadcast.

She claimed that Lilwin is once again planning to use a child for rituals to promote the success of Ibrahim Traoré, and warned all parents to be vigilant and protective of their children as the film’s premiere date approaches.

“I’m sending a strong warning to all parents. Guard your children. Lilwin is not done. He wants to do it again,” she stated.
