Bullet, a well-known artiste manager and musician, has hailed the late Daddy Lumba as the greatest musician Ghana has ever produced, not simply for his own achievements, but for his extraordinary generosity in uplifting other talents.

In an interview with Ghanaweb at the residence of the late music icon, Bullet shared heartfelt reflections, emphasizing that his admiration is rooted in facts, not sentiment.

“He is the greatest to ever do it. Yeah, he’s the greatest of all time. And I’m not saying this because he’s no longer around,” Bullet said.

Unlike many musicians who shine alone at the top, Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, made it a personal mission to elevate rising stars. According to Bullet, this rare trait set him apart in the Ghanaian music industry.

“I’ve never seen a star who allows other stars to shine with him. Lumba is the only one who brought out Felix Owusu, Nana Yaw Michah, Ofori Amponsah, Akua Serwaa, a lot.
That has never happened in the history of Ghana music. The artistes don’t do it, when they shine, they shine alone,” he explained.

Bullet went on to recognize others who have followed in Lumba’s footsteps, mentioning Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, and himself as figures helping nurture new artistes.

“I’m doing it. I’m bringing other artistes as well. So the new crop should learn from that side,” he added.

He urged contemporary Ghanaian musicians to draw inspiration from Daddy Lumba’s legacy by creating room for new talent and fostering growth within the industry.
He stressed that true greatness lies not just in personal success, but in how one opens doors for others.

Daddy Lumba, whose career spanned more than three decades, left behind a remarkable discography of over 30 albums and an enduring influence on Ghana’s cultural landscape. Born on September 29, 1964, he remains a symbol of artistic excellence and mentorship, even in death.

Daddy Lumba’s Visit Changed Everything, My Mother Finally Believed in Me – Appietus Recounts

Ghanaian music producer, Appiah Dankwah, well-known as Appietus, has shared a deeply personal story about how a surprise visit from Highlife legend Daddy Lumba dramatically transformed his standing in his own household, particularly in the eyes of his skeptical mother.

Despite producing some of Ghana’s biggest hits and working alongside stars like Ofori Amponsah, Appietus said his mother never fully embraced his music career. In fact, she often urged him to abandon it altogether and pursue what she considered a “real” job.

“My mother used to tell me that I should go and look for work. She would be like I am disturbing her. She knew Ofori Amponsah was my friend, so anytime she sees me with him, she would be like ‘You think it’s fun going to sit on television and speak English,’” he recounted.

According to Appietus, her disbelief persisted even as his reputation grew within the industry. “My mother didn’t believe in me at all, even when everyone was praising me,” he said.

But everything changed in an instant, on the day Daddy Lumba personally showed up at Appietus’ studio.

“I was there when Lumba called me to say he would come to the studios… When he came, he met my mother, so she was deliberating if that was Lumba or not until she approached him,” he said in an interview.

“That was when Lumba told her he was looking for me… That day, my mother surprised me based on the way she was behaving. The way she was claiming me as a son all of a sudden… When Lumba came to the studios, within a few minutes, my mother came in asking Lumba if he would eat fufu. She even brought in fried eggs and tea,” Appietus added.

Naa Agyeman Calls On Government To Build National Music Museum In Honour Of Daddy Lumba

Veteran Highlife artiste, Naa Agyeman, has called on the government of Ghana to honour the legacy of the late Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, by establishing a national music museum that would serve both as a tribute and as a cultural institution.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Graphic Showbiz, the ‘Kwahu Bepo’ composer voiced frustration over Ghana’s longstanding failure to adequately honour its musical trailblazers. He believes Daddy Lumba’s recent death offers a critical opportunity to correct that historical neglect.

“There’s no better time than now to act,” he said. “Daddy Lumba is not just another artiste—he is a cultural icon, a national treasure whose music has been the soundtrack to millions of Ghanaian lives for over three decades.”

Naa Agyeman emphasized that tributes alone are not enough and urged the government to institutionalise Lumba’s legacy in a permanent way.

“We celebrate him in words and tributes, but we must do more. We must preserve his memory in a way that is concrete and enduring. A national music museum dedicated in part to his legacy would be a monumental step forward,” he stated.

While advocating for a space dedicated to Lumba, the Highlife veteran also proposed that the envisioned museum serve as a comprehensive archive of Ghanaian music. He cited global examples where music legends have been honoured with museums that also double as cultural landmarks.

“If you travel to other parts of the world, you’ll see museums dedicated to Elvis Presley, Bob Marley, The Beatles and more. These are places that preserve not just music but history. Ghana needs that. And there is no better face to begin this mission than Daddy Lumba,” he noted.

Naa Agyeman sees such a museum as more than a tribute, it would be a national resource that combines education, culture, and tourism. He imagined it filled with artifacts such as handwritten lyrics, historic performance footage, and vintage instruments.

“Imagine students walking through halls filled with rare recordings, handwritten lyrics, vintage costumes and video footage of historic performances. Imagine experiencing the evolution of Highlife through immersive storytelling. That’s not just entertainment—it’s education, culture and national pride combined.”

Lamenting the absence of a national space to celebrate musical greats, he added, “It’s heartbreaking that a country with such a deep musical heritage lacks a physical space where the youth can learn about our icons. Every time we lose a legend, a piece of our history disappears. The government must act now. Let Daddy Lumba’s legacy be the catalyst for this change.”

Apart from policy advocacy, Naa Agyeman spoke from a personal place, reflecting on a moment he shared with the late legend.

“I was privileged to share a stage with him on his 60th birthday celebration. It was an unforgettable experience, and I was looking forward to reciprocating the gesture for my own 25th anniversary in the music industry. Although circumstances didn’t allow it, I’m grateful for the legacy he’s left behind.”

Naa Agyeman further urged Ghanaians to go beyond mourning and take action.

“Daddy Lumba was more than a legend—he was an inspiration. His music will continue to inspire and influence future generations of musicians and fans alike. So let’s not just mourn Daddy Lumba—let’s immortalise him. Let’s build a legacy that lasts.”
