Kuami Eugene reveals why he wanted his exit from LYNX to be private

Ghanaian highlife and afrobeat star Kuami Eugene has finally opened up about his much-rumoured departure from Lynx Entertainment, shedding light on why he chose to keep the transition low-key and drama-free.

In an exclusive interview with Doreen Avio, the “Monica” hitmaker explained that he deliberately avoided the traditional route many Ghanaian artists take after parting ways with their record labels.

Which is focusing on negativity and grievances. Instead, he preferred to channel his energy into his new projects and musical growth.

“I noticed that when people leave record labels here, they often spend a lot of time talking about, sorry to say, their bad experiences rather than focusing on what they’re doing now,” he said. “That’s not something I wanted to be a part of.”

According to him, discussions surrounding his exit from Lynx began as far back as 2023, during the rollout of his single “Monica.” Despite the quiet transition, he made it clear that his departure was done on good terms and with the full support of Lynx Entertainment CEO Richie Mensah.

“It’s been a very long journey with Lynx Entertainment. They’ve played a huge role in my life,” Eugene reflected. “Richie told me, ‘Eight years, Charlie, you almost hit a decade with us.’ I’ve learned so much from him, and I’m very grateful.”

Kuami Eugene also emphasised that although he is no longer officially signed to the label, the relationship remains intact. He recently attended Richie Mensah’s book launch and described the reunion as warm and heartfelt.

“I was at Richie’s book launch just two days ago. It was a blessing to see him, hug him like the father he’s been to me. He even texted me thanking me for coming,” he revealed.
Continuing in the imterview, Kuami Eugene urged the public to focus on the music rather than the politics behind the scenes.

“If I put out my feelings, then what?” he asked rhetorically. “What I really want is for them to listen to ‘Belinda,’ ‘Monica,’ and the other bangers I’m giving them.”

Ghanaian socialite, Efia Odo, has pushed back against societal pressure to have children before a certain age.

She asserted her right to choose motherhood on her own terms.

In an X post, Odo, known in private life as Andrea Owusu, challenged the widespread belief that women must bear children before turning 30. She dismissed the notion as outdated and harmful, especially for women who aren’t emotionally or financially prepared to raise a child.

“One thing y’all are not going to do is pressure me to give birth,” she declared. “I’m not bringing a child into a broken home nor am I bringing a child into the world cuz society has told me that by my 30s I should’ve given birth.”

Efia Odo made it clear she’d rather wait until her 40s to have a child, if that’s when she feels fully ready to raise one in a stable, loving environment. Her message resonated with many who see parenthood as a personal decision, not a timeline dictated by cultural expectations.

She also called out the hypocrisy of those who rush women into motherhood only to later stigmatize them for being single mothers. “Y’all are always talking down on born ones but stay pressuring women to give birth cuz you feel their time is up. No one can tell me what to do with my life and when to do it,” she wrote.

Ghanaian actor Big Akwes has publicly apologised to singer Cina Soul after facing backlash for deeply unsettling comments made during a discussion on TV.

The controversy stemmed from a segment on Bryt TV’s “Kiss–Marry–Kill” game, where Big Akwes was asked to choose between actress Vivian Jill and Cina Soul. He said he would marry Vivian Jill but took a dark and unexpected turn by elaborating in graphic detail how he would “kill Cina Soul.” Akwes described summoning her through a spiritual mirror, stabbing her repeatedly, and drinking her blood.

The video, which quickly circulated across social media, drew widespread condemnation. On July 1, 2025, Cina Soul took to X (formerly Twitter) to express fear and alarm over the comments, tagging the Ghana Police Service, Communications Minister Sam George, and other officials, calling for urgent action.

Her reaction ignited a firestorm online, with many demanding accountability from both the actor and Bryt TV for broadcasting such violent content without intervention.

In response to the growing outrage, Bryt TV brought Big Akwes back on air to clarify his intentions and respond to the public’s criticism. Akwes insisted his remarks were not literal and had been said for comedic effect, though he acknowledged the harm they caused.

“This was meant purely for entertainment purposes; I never intended to actually harm her. I even learned that her mother was scared by what I said, and for that, I’m truly sorry. Mummy, please don’t let this weigh on your heart. If my words made you believe that I would harm Cina Soul, that was not my intention at all. It was just for entertainment. I sincerely apologize if my comments caused panic for Cina Soul, her family, close friends, or anyone connected to her. I have no malicious intentions toward her,” Big Akwes said.

Bryt TV, in a caption accompanying the actor’s apology video, also issued a statement to acknowledge their role in the incident and to apologise to both Cina Soul and their viewers.

“In light of the public reaction to a recent segment featuring Kumawood actor Big Akwes, we have taken steps to address the sentiments expressed, in line with our values as a media platform.

“We extend our sincere apology to singer, Cina Soul and our cherished audience for any unintended offense caused during the ‘Kiss, Marry, Kill’ segment. We remain committed to upholding respect and responsibility in our content.”

Ghanaian singer, Cina Soul, known in private life as Christie Quincyna Quarcoopome, has publicly expressed fear for her safety after Kumawood actor Big Akwes made a disturbing and graphic threat against her on live television.

The unsettling moment occurred during a segment of Bryt TV’s Kiss–Marry–Kill game, where Big Akwes, without hesitation, said he would “kill Cina Soul.” He then escalated his comments with chilling specificity, claiming he would summon her through a spiritual mirror, stab her repeatedly, and drink her blood.

Reacting to the broadcast, a visibly alarmed Cina Soul broke her silence on X (formerly Twitter), tagging the Ghana Police Service, Communications Minister Sam George, and the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation.

“@GhPoliceService I’m deeply unsettled by this. I initially chose not to respond to earlier comments because I do not wish to be associated with this individual, but at this point I feel genuinely threatened,” she wrote. “@samgeorgegh @mocghana I may not know the proper channels to report this, but it’s critical we take a firm stance against this kind of dangerous rhetoric being broadcast on our TV and radio platforms. Her post ignited massive support and condemnation online, with many demanding accountability from both the actor and Bryt TV for allowing the violent comments to air unchallenged.

This is not the first time Big Akwes has targeted the singer. In April 2025, he sparked backlash for body-shaming Cina Soul over her appearance in a dance video promoting her Did I Lie? album, calling her “attention-seeking.”

Max TV, which aired that earlier segment, later issued a public apology acknowledging the inappropriateness of the remarks. However, Big Akwes remained defiant, refusing to apologise and instead urging viewers to “re-analyse” what he said.
