“I Was Very Stubborn” – KiDi Reveals Lynx Entertainment Nearly Dropped Him Over Creative Differences

0

Ghanaian artiste KiDi recently opened up about a rocky start with his current label, Lynx Entertainment, revealing that his resistance to their creative direction nearly cost him his contract.

During an appearance on the ‘Talk No Dey Cook Rice’ podcast, the ‘Touch It’ singer reflected on how his independent mindset clashed with the expectations of his new team shortly after signing.

KiDi explained that when he joined the label, he came in confident from years of praise as an underground R&B artiste dating back to around 2009. With that kind of recognition, he couldn’t understand why Lynx was pushing him to adjust his style.

“Lynx almost dropped me right after I signed with them. When I joined Lynx, I was very stubborn and wanted to follow my own path. During my time as an underground artiste, I received great feedback for being a great R&B singer,” he said.

Although Lynx had a different vision for his sound, KiDi initially pushed back.

“However, once I signed with Lynx, it seemed they wanted me to explore a different style. I was resistant, arguing that people had consistently told me how great I was as an R&B singer, and I wanted to stick to that,” KiDi stated.

This creative standoff, he admitted, caused some friction between him and the team trying to guide him.

“At some point, it became quite frustrating for them. They recognised my strengths and encouraged me to incorporate new elements into my music,” he said.

Despite their persistence, KiDi said he wasn’t easily swayed. “But as a young and stubborn kid, I still insisted on doing things my way,” he recalled.

Eventually, he came to realise that evolving as an artiste meant stepping outside his comfort zone. That led him to develop new skills, including music production and learning to play instruments.

“I had to learn, unlearn, and relearn many things to succeed at Lynx,” KiDi averred.
