Days ago, Vida Adutwumwaa, who’s the current PRO for Burniton Music Group, dismissed the growing chants for King Paluta to be crowned as the TGMA artist of the year 2025.

According to Vida, King Paluta didn’t garner the highest appeal last year to be crowned as the artist of the year in 2025.

Speaking in an interview with DJ Slim, she pointed out that Stonebwoy received 8 nominations at the TGMAs with four nominations coming from his hit album, ” Up and Running”

Her comments triggered MC Portfolio to also hit back at her for being petty.

In a fresh interview with Zion Felix, Vida has emphatically stated that she never disrespected Stonebwoy.

She also highlighted the many reasons why Stonebwoy should be crowned as the artist of the year.

She also added that she never disrespected King Paluta and her comments about his supposed charges were taken out of context

Martha Ankomah Speaks Out On Colourism In Ghana’s Movie Industry

Ghanaian actress, Martha Ankomah, has spoken candidly about the harsh realities of colourism within the movie industry. She sadly disclosed that dark-skinned actors are often sidelined and pressured to bleach their skin to land roles.

At the 2025 edition of PCH Hangouts, held at ICGC New Wine Temple in East Legon, Ankomah recounted a moment early in her career when a producer bluntly criticized her natural complexion.

“Martha, you are too black… when we put the lights on you, you won’t shine,” she recalled being told.

Such experiences, she noted, are not isolated. According to Ankomah, the industry’s unspoken beauty standards have driven many of her peers to lighten their skin in pursuit of success.

“Because of that pressure, most of my colleagues started bleaching. That’s why some of them appear fair today. If you’ve been watching Ghanaian films for a while, you’ll know they weren’t always this complexion—they felt they had to maintain it.”

Ankomah, however, chose a different path. Resisting the industry’s pressures, she credited her strength to her faith, upbringing, and a sense of self-worth rooted in spiritual guidance.

“I thank God for wisdom because the Bible says, ‘The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.’ I’m grateful for my parents—my father, may he rest in peace, was a devout Adventist, and my mother is a strict Pentecostal.”

Making a reflection on her career before the advent of social media, Martha Ankomah acknowledged the uphill battle many actors faced in getting recognized.

“It hasn’t been easy. It’s been the grace of God. When we started, there was no Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, or Twitter. You were only known if your face made it onto a poster.”

The Ghanaian actress also reacted to longstanding rumors about actors engaging in questionable practices to climb the career ladder, emphasizing that such pressures aren’t unique to showbiz.

“I’m sure it happens in every workplace—people doing all sorts of things just to stay relevant. But it truly takes God’s grace to say no and stand firm.”

TGMA Board Clarifies Omission Of King Paluta’s ‘Makoma’ From Popular Song Of The Year Category

The organizers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) have responded to concerns regarding the omission of King Paluta’s hit song Makoma from this year’s Popular Song of the Year nominations.

Following concerns raised about the omission of King Paluta’s song ‘Makoma’ from the Popular Song of the Year nominations in the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), the organizers have responded.

The TGMA Board in a statement, clarified that the song’s exclusion was due to a long-standing rule limiting artists to a single nomination per category, with only a few exceptions.

“The only categories where multiple nominations are permitted are Best Collaboration, Best International Collaboration, and Best Music Video, as these involve multiple contributors,” the statement explained.

The TGMA Board further elaborated that when an artist has multiple songs eligible for a category that allows only one entry, the selection is made based on data-driven criteria, including streaming numbers and radio airplay.

In King Paluta’s case, both Aseda and Makoma were strong contenders in the Popular Song of the Year category. Following a thorough evaluation of streaming figures and radio airplay data from 175 stations nationwide, Aseda emerged as the more dominant track. Consequently, it secured nominations in both Highlife Song of the Year and Most Popular Song of the Year.

The TGMA Board emphasized that this rule also serves to prevent vote splitting, ensuring an artist’s chances of winning aren’t diluted across multiple songs in the same category.

The Board further acknowledged that, in previous years, exceptions to this rule had been made, allowing multiple nominations for some artists. However, the current policy enforces a strict adherence to the one-song-per-category rule.

A few weeks ago, King Paluta’s management petitioned the Board over this omission.
