Diana Hamilton Shares Views On Technology’s Role In Worship

Diana Hamilton has weighed in on the use of technology—particularly mobile phones and tablets—in church settings.

The award-winning Ghanaian gospel singer in an interview with Hitz FM, Hamilton revealed that she no longer carries a physical Bible to church, preferring instead to read scripture on her phone through a Bible app. She acknowledged that while technology offers convenience, it also requires discipline to stay spiritually focused.

“I don’t take a physical Bible to church. I read my Bible on my phone. I have the Bible app; I search using my phone. But it takes a lot of mental maturity to say, ‘I will not go on Facebook; I’m actually going on the Bible app. I’m going to pray,’” she explained.

She further emphasized the importance of intentional digital consumption, noting how social media algorithms can sometimes lead users down unintended paths.

“When I go on Instagram, I make sure I’m searching for content that edifies me and blesses me,” she added.

Reflecting on a visit to Israel, Hamilton drew a striking comparison between Jesus’ ministry and modern technology. Standing at the site where Jesus preached from a boat, she realized that if He were to be in this era, He would have had social media accounts which will enable Him to reach more people.

“If Jesus was in this era, he would have a YouTube account, an Instagram account, a Facebook account.

“I realised that where he took the boat, it was obviously by the sea. That’s where people came to trade. It was a marketplace. A centre of attraction.

“So he was standing there and speaking. And I think we’ve come to a realisation that where the people are, we’re supposed to reach them and speak the word to them. Not going there to muddy yourself,” she said.

Her comment was on the back of several churches making use of technology and online streaming services to reach others.

The ‘Adom’ singer further advised believers on how to use their phones and social media.

“Make sure that whatever you’re using your phone for, it is blessing you, it is blessing others, it is affecting generations, it’s affecting society,” Diana Hamilton stated.
