Joyce Blessing opens up on selling gari and pure water to survive

0

Ghanaian gospel musician, Joyce Blessing, has shared the challenges she experienced in the early stages of her life.

In an interview on Hitz FM on January 15, 2025, Joyce Blessing explained that at an early age, she sold pure water, second-hand clothes, etc at some point in order to survive life’s hardships.

The renowned gospel singer disclosed that with desperation to help her single mother raise five children, she left home at an early stage because life was difficult for her mother.

“From the beginning, it was very hard for me. If I tell people that I used to sell pure water, they don’t believe me. Sometimes I would sell second-hand clothes, brooms, and gari. In fact, we sold anything that we came across. And I did this with my sister.

My parents didn’t even know how I got to Accra. They got to know when someone informed my mother about a song I did which became a hit.

At that time, phones were not as common as they are now. But I am sure she wept when she heard the news.

“My mother gave birth to five children but three stayed with her. Life was difficult, so, some went to school while others like myself stayed behind to sell.

So, I have been selling on the streets and people who knew me then now address me by Akos. Anytime I am on the street and I see these people selling, I can give them the last money on me and I don’t even buy fuel,” she said.

He shared a video of the designated site, captioning it:

“Earlier this year, I received a call from a private investor inviting me to meet with a board to discuss what Kumasi needs to boost its creative economy. One key proposal I raised was an enclosed arena for funfairs, social events, and concerts, among other things.
They directed me to vast acres of land and assured me they would develop it into a space capable of hosting entertainment events! ❤️❤️❤️

Ladies and gentlemen, I can confidently assure you that by the close of JANUARY, Kumasi will have an event-friendly venue named The Boss Arena (located near Honey Bite Restaurant, close to Simms SHS) to serve the needs of artists, event promoters, political parties, media houses, and the creative ecosystem! 🔥🔥🔥

I’m thrilled we can now host events without overburdening the limited venues currently available in the city. Welcome to a new chapter! ✊🏽 The name The Boss Arena was chosen by me to align with the vision of the investors. 🥂”

This development is expected to significantly bolster Kumasi’s creative economy by providing a state-of-the-art venue for various events, reducing the strain on existing facilities and creating new opportunities for entertainment and creativity.
