Veteran Ghanaian Musician, Teddy Osei Of Osibisa Fame Is Dead

Ghanaian musician and saxophonist, Teddy Osei, of Osibisa fame is reported dead.

Mr Osei, one of the founding members of the Afro-rock band Osibisa, was reported to have died on the morning of Tuesday, January 14, 2025, in London.

His demise was confirmed to Myjoyonline by the President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bessa Simons.

He passed on at the age of 88.

Born in December 1937, Teddy Osei was well-known as the leader of the Afro-rock band Osibisa which was founded in 1969.

During his childhood, Osei, who was born in Kumasi, had the opportunity to be introduced to musical instruments.

After he started playing saxophone, he put in an effort to form a band with college friends at Sekondi. Following his graduation from college, he obtained a job as a building inspector for a year before he created a band called “The Comets.”

In 1962, Teddy Osei travelled to London, this was after The Comets was becoming popular. His travel was on the back of him receiving a grant from the Ghanaian government to study at a private music and drama school for three years.

Together with other musicians, Osibisa was founded in 1969.

Ghanaian political and social activist, Kwame Asare Obeng, well-known as A Plus, who is now the MP of Gomoa Central, has opened up about one of the strategies that helped him to win the seat.

He disclosed in a video that he sought advice from Shatta Wale before the 2024 elections.

A Plus said after listening to everybody, he went to Wale and asked him about his crowd-pulling skills.

According to the Gomoa Central Member of Parliament, the Shatta Movement leader advised him to read the story of Jesus Christ.

A Plus added that Wale is a wise man.

Abraham Attah’s co-star from the acclaimed movie Beast of No Nation, Emmanuel Nii Adom Quaye, popularly known as Strika, has responded to recent allegations of theft levelled against him by his former boss and confidant, Gunshot.

In a fiery TikTok Live session, Strika strongly denied claims that he habitually stole from Gunshot, labelling the accusations as baseless and part of a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation.

Speaking passionately during the live broadcast, Strika dismissed the accusations, asserting that he had never stolen an iPhone or money from Gunshot.

“There is no iota of truth in those claims,” he said, holding what he described as the latest iPhone to emphasize his point.

According to Strika, Gunshot fabricated the story to justify ending their professional relationship.

“He was fed up with me and wanted me gone. Instead of being honest, he chose to tell a cock-and-bull story to tarnish my name,” Strika said.

The statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, situated at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi, has been completely vandalized by unknown individuals.

The statue was unveiled on November 6, 2024, during a ceremony attended by the former president.

The statue was intended to honour his contributions to the region’s development.

However, the monument faced criticism from some residents who questioned its necessity and timing.

The first act of vandalism occurred on December 16, 2024, when the statue’s left leg was found damaged.

Authorities repaired the statue soon after, but no arrests were made in connection with the incident.

The latest attack, which has left the statue entirely toppled, comes less than a week after Akufo-Addo left office as president.
