Kumi Guitar is one of the few musicians in the country who are currently enjoying life after suffering for many years.
The Highlife singer in January this year inked a milky deal with Zylofon Media. The contract came with mouth-watering packages, which included $100,000, a house, brand new Hyundai Sonata and others.
Kmi Guitar who happens to be the first artiste signed on the East Legon-located Company is really enjoying life. The singer does not jump from one media house to the other in his 2016 model Hyundai Sonata Zylofon Media bought him when signing the contract but rather a 2017 registered Toyota Prado car.
Zionfelix.net spotted the “Mmaa Time” singer at Kasapa FM in the brand new car. From all the indications, the car was purchased weeks ago to help the artiste and the company in their dealings. Checks by Zionfelix.net revealed a ‘tear rubber’ Toyota Prado like the one we saw Kumi comfortably cruising in over the weekend starts selling from $52,990 (GH230, 476) to $73,990 (GH321, 854).
A final year student of the University of Ghana, Legon, Maxwell Amofia is asking authorities of the school to prevent Ghanaian musicians from performing profane songs whenever they are on campus to entertain their fans.
The Radio Univers presenter who is not enthused about some songs dancehall artiste Shatta Wale sang over the weekend when he stormed Bani Hall artiste night asked heads of the institution to check songs musicians plan to perform when they are billed for shows at Legon. In a mail Mr. Amofia sent to Zionfelix.net, he stated that these checks would help contribute to the good morals the school wants to give the students.
Below is what Maxwell Amofia, a final year student of the University of Ghana sent to Zionfelix.net concerning Shatta Wale’s performance on Legon campus, April 1.
For every well-organised musical show, the managers largely determine the number of songs an artiste will perform and sometimes the specific songs that should be performed. This is obviously done in line with the purpose and aim of organising the event or show.
If organisers or sponsors are supposed to check the songs these artistes perform even at outdoor events and clubs, wouldn’t it be prudent to do same when these artistes are billed to perform in educational institutions like the University of Ghana?
When an artiste has extremely profane songs which are popular or hits, a corporate institution that organises a show should be able to point out to the artiste that profane songs are not suitable for certain environments especially an educational institution.
The story was quite different when Busy Internet partnered United Nations Hall (Bani) for their 2017 Artiste Night on the campus of the University of Ghana. Billed for the night were Shatta Wale, Keche,
T-Phlow, King Promise among other artistes.
Shatta Wale mounted the stage around 9:30pm and performed for an hour. Aside his Radio friendly songs, the SM Boss also performed a number of lyrically explicit songs not befitting for a campus show that doesn’t only intend to entertain but also educate.
He performed tunes like ‘Wo Mame Tw3’, and ‘Onyeaye Sorr’. Both songs speak about commonly known Ghanaian insults referring to the vagina of one’s Mother. This is a clear disrespect to womanhood and motherhood.
Shatta Wale performed at the Glo Caf Awards last year but was instructed to perform only one song titled ‘Reality’, which has no trace of profanity. In an interview, he admitted that there was no way
he could have objected. So why did organisers of this show allow for such a disturbing incident to occur?
If the Dean of Students checks on the time show on campus end and the nature of these shows, shouldn’t he also check on some of these acts of immorality? Should a school that seeks to teach good morals host shows that will make derogatory remarks about the female reproductive
organ?
Just a month ago, female dancehall artiste Ebony mounted a stage on the same campus and she was seen touching and playing with her private organ throughout the show. As if we hadn’t had enough, she ordered for a bed to be brought on stage. The next thing we realised was that she had pounced on a boy on the bed and was displaying what should have
been limited to the bedroom.
Why has the Dean of Students of the University of Ghana been silent on such issues? Perhaps, it hasn’t gotten to his attention yet.
I love to see Shatta Wale perform everyday but his management team together with organisers of events should scrutinise his selected songs even before the day of the show. There should be some sanctity on our campuses.

Multiple award-winning Ghanaian Rapper, Edem, together with ace Ghanaian Publicist/Author, Elorm Beenie had a very successful music workshop in the Volta Region on Sunday, April 2, 2017.
Touching on the topic “Artiste Bookings & Performances”, both gentlemen schooled (Budding) Musicians, Artiste Managers, Event Organizers and On Air Personalities in the Region for over 2 hours.
Edem who spoke extensively on the topic was very excited about the growth of new music talents in the Region and how ‘hungry’ they are to reach the top. Below is a brief culled from Edem’s one hour presentation at the seminar:
“Impact is most important than doing multiple songs. Order of performance is key. Do your ground research. The crowd you meet each time is a good of diverse people so you always have to go the extra mile to impress them. Regardless of the crowd size, make sure give the best performance. Don’t condemn yourself when you flop on a show. Give people the value for their money. Don’t be intimidated by fans when they are giving you ‘away’ or they don’t like your showmanship; instead, find a way to psych them up to cheer you up by finding a good way to better your act. You have to steal the spotlight for yourself as an upcoming act. Your performance can kill or promote your song depending on your own approach. When people don’t know (about) your song or music, it is about your artistry and performance – which when done well will win your more fans and appeal. Don’t believe in the hype, but use the hype. Using the hype means you are building something you want to become that will come to benefit you. Focus on building your craft through social media instead of commenting on silly posts on social media. Music is like any other job, it takes time to grow. Network is good but it has to be good. Don’t give any industry person pressure. Don’t be bitter for your things that don’t work, you are delaying your future success. Your performances makes you last longer than your songs. Believe in what you have than what you don’t. use the CLAMP formula (i.e) C-oncept, L-yrics, A-ppearance, M-usic, P-erformance.”
Elorm Beenie, the main Host of the programme (before Edem spoke), also touched on some key areas of Booking & Performance. He took them through the various steps of Booking an Artiste, the need for Event Producers/Coordinators to always keep a Running Order, how Artistes/Managers to put a Technical Rider together amongst other key things.
The music workshop was started by Elorm Beenie a month ago as a platform for mainstream artistes (especially from the Volta Region) to interact with their talents back home. It’s the 2nd time the seminar was run within a month.
“We had a very successful show and I am personally happy Edem came through to help out and directly speak to these budding artistes. They need these stepping stones to help them make the right decisions on the administrative side of the music, it’s not just about hitting the booth to drop lyrics or doing interviews or shooting music videos or performing them. It’s a whole industry and we need to educate the budding ones a lot; that’s the best way we can produce very good musicians that can last the test of time. Next date and venue will be communicated. We’re running this in the Volta Region now but I look forward to partnering other people in other Regions as well to help educate our musicians, especially the upcoming ones. The attendance was very encouraging; the 1st seminar had 37 attendees and this 2nd one had over 60 – that’s an improvement I think”, Elorm Beenie added.
Elorm Beenie is the Author of African novel “Love Myelitis”. Apart from online blogging he mainly does, he also doubles as Official Publicist for Celebrity Musicians, Edem, Stonebwoy, Samini, Rocky Dawuni, Kofi Kinaata, just to name a few.
Ghanaian-born UK-based gospel musician Ohemaa Jacky has told Zionfelix.net that she has done nothing wrong to Bro. Sammy for her to apologise to him.
The “Hakuna Matata” singer in a conversation with this website stated that many people are misinterpreting the apology she rendered in a Facebook live video last week. Jacky giving reasons why she went on her knees to ask for forgiveness from God and fans said many have rebuked how she handled her pregnacy issue with Bro. Sammy months ago. She added that she accpeted her fault hence the decision to ask the world to pardon her.
The female gospel musician added that many are saying she apologised to Bro. Sammy in her recent Facebok live video but that is not true. According to her, she has not offended Bro. Sammy to ask for forgiveness from him. Ohemaa Jacky blatantly said she has not apologised to Sammy and would never do so because she has done him no wrong.
She revealed that it is Bro. Sammy who offended her and has apologised so the public should not think he was one of the many people she was saying sorry to in her Facebook live video days ago.
Naa Kay, former member of award winning Hiplife duo Nkasei has switched from secular music to the gospel music scene.
After making changes in his spiritual life, Naa Kay is still going through some changes now with his music with the aim of inspiring his fans with passioned rhythmic spiritual music.
“I have come to understand that God is an organized God and for that matter, he doesn’t do things for just doing them. Everything he created, he made them with a purpose. I have come to understand I was created for a purpose and through prayers I believe God has started answering my prayers by revealing to me what my purpose is on this earth.
“With that in mind, the Hiplife songs I made earlier in my career, there are a few of them that I would not sing again because I now understand I was built for a bigger purpose.”
The multiple award winning rapper is best known for songs such as ‘Edua No Ebu’ featuring Reggie Rockstone, ‘New Girl in Town’ (Okoro) and ‘Tuabodom’.
Naa Kay started off his career when he partnered with Shy to form the now defunct Hiplife group Nkasei in 2000 and signed to Abib Records for their first album.
“My gospel is not the generic Gospel, it’s not the usual praises and worship. It’s more of advice for people to move from their bad ways and inspiration to people doing good to move on to do better things. I call it gospel mainly because there is good news in my music.”
Naa Kay’s art and craft has been dominating in Ghana’s music scene for several years and he premieres his Voltage produced single ‘Aseda Ka‘ on April 11.
