Blogging has opened international doors for me – Blogger Kobby Kyei reveals

0

Celebrated Ghanaian online journalist and humanitarian Kobby Kyei has opened up about how his decision to focus on human-interest and developmental stories has transformed his career and earned him recognition beyond Ghana’s borders.

In an interview with Irene Adubea Aning on The Career Trail program, Kobby Kyei explained that while many bloggers chase entertainment and celebrity gossip, he intentionally carved out a niche in humanitarian storytelling to create meaningful impact.

“If you check my Wikipedia, it says I once started as an entertainment blogger, but now I’m doing humanitarian work because I needed to find a niche for myself,” he said.

“Apart from Joy News, Adom TV, and a few traditional media houses, which blogger was going into rural communities to tell the stories of children and deprived communities? No one. I had to create that space on social media.”

He added that his shift in focus was inspired by a desire to leave a positive digital footprint that future generations could look back on.

“If I ask you about your grandmother’s mother, you may not know her. But imagine if in their time there was social media we would all know our great-great-grandparents. Today, everything we do remains online. My children’s children will be able to search and see what their grandfather did. That’s why I’ve decided to document my life in a positive light,” he explained.

According to Kobby Kyei, this unique direction has not only set him apart in the digital media space but also attracted the attention of corporate organizations, diplomats, and international institutions.

“That decision opened a lot of diplomatic and international doors, and corporate bodies also accepted what I was doing,” he noted.

For Kobby Kyei, blogging goes beyond trending stories; it’s about creating a legacy of impact and telling the untold stories of humanity.

Daddy Lumba’s funeral will still come on 6th December – Captain Smart tells Akosua Serwaa

0

Controversial Ghanaian broadcaster Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, has boldly reacted to the injunction filed by Akosua Serwaa, the first wife of the late music legend Daddy Lumba, seeking to halt his funeral.

On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, the family of the late highlife icon announced that Daddy Lumba, who passed away in July at age 60, would be laid to rest on Saturday, December 6, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The announcement, made by family spokesperson and former Manhyia North MP Collins Amankwah, also outlined detailed plans for the funeral ceremony.

However, shortly after the announcement, reports surfaced that Akosua Serwaa had filed a court injunction against the family head, Victor Kofi Owusu Boahene, Transitions Funeral Home, and Odo Broni, Lumba’s alleged second wife.

Reacting to the legal development, Captain Smart, during his Onua Maakye show on Friday, October 10, declared that nothing and no one could prevent the funeral from taking place.

“Daddy Lumba’s funeral will be held on December 6. No one can stop it from happening,” he said emphatically.

The outspoken presenter further dared any court bailiff or officer to attempt serving injunction papers at the funeral grounds, warning that such an act would not succeed.

He added that the presence of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, would make it impossible for anyone to disrupt the ceremony.

“If you are a bailiff and you see Otumfuo sitting under his palanquin at the funeral, bring the court injunction. Bring it there—we will be waiting for you,” Captain Smart said.

His comments have since sparked mixed reactions online, with some backing his bold defense of the planned funeral, while others criticized him for disregarding the court process.

A video of Captain Smart issuing the warning to Akosua Serwaa and the court has since gone viral on social media.
