Nigerian investigative journalist Dr. Kemi Olunloyo has made a series of controversial allegations regarding the recent arrest of popular content creator and streamer Peller, claiming the incident may be connected to an ongoing investigation involving the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
In a Facebook post published on July 8, 2026, Dr. Olunloyo alleged that Nigeria’s police financial unit had already questioned Peller on behalf of an FBI attaché before news of his arrest became public.
According to her, the content creator’s arrest was not as straightforward as it appeared.
She claimed that law enforcement officers allegedly used a traffic offence involving tinted vehicle windows as a pretext to detain Peller, adding that a physical altercation reportedly occurred before he was taken into custody and later granted bail.
Peller was reportedly arrested around July 4, 2026. News of the incident first emerged on July 6 after entertainment blogger Gistlover claimed the streamer had spent two days in detention before securing his release on bail.
Dr. Olunloyo also drew attention to one of Peller’s reported bail conditions, which required him to provide a two-year tax clearance certificate.
Describing the requirement as unusual, she suggested it could play a significant role in the investigation.
“Did Peller even pay tax? This is where they are going to nail him,” she wrote.
The journalist further alleged that the circumstances surrounding the arrest were designed to observe how Nigerian youth would react to allegations involving online personalities and financial crimes.
According to her, the situation was monitored by journalists attached to the FBI.
“The post was a set up for three US journalists who are attached to the FBI. They wanted to see how Nigerian youth support fraud,” she claimed.
Dr. Olunloyo also alleged that Peller is cooperating with investigators, despite not publicly acknowledging any such arrangement.
“He is cooperating, but he won’t tell you that,” she wrote.
The journalist has previously questioned the source of expensive virtual gifts, particularly TikTok’s “Lion” gifts, suggesting in earlier comments that some of the funds used to purchase them could originate from individuals involved in online fraud.
At the time of publication, neither the FBI nor Nigerian law enforcement authorities had publicly confirmed Dr. Olunloyo’s claims. Likewise, Peller has not publicly responded to the specific allegations linking his arrest to an FBI investigation.
