Ghanaian musician, Elorm Adablah, well known as E.L, has condemned people claiming ownership of Azonto.
Speaking in an interview with Caleb Nii Boye on Live FM which was monitored by Zionelix.net, the ‘Shelele’ composer argued nobody owns Azonto.
He claimed Azonto is for all Ghanaians and nobody has the clout to own it.
“Why does somebody have to own Azonto? Why should there be a landlord for Azonto? It is for all of us. There is nothing like Azonto landlord or Azonto land guard. We created it for Ghanaians. So I don’t think anybody can sit anywhere and claim a music genre,” E.L stated.
He stressed that music genre comes from culture and it belongs to a group of people.
E.L emphasized that nobody have the power to claim ownership of hip-hop, afrobeat or any other music genre.
He was hopeful a category will be created for Azonto worldwide in the near future.
The debate of who owns Azonto emerged after Sarkodie made public his decision on the need to revive Azonto of which Gasmilla felt offended for not being contacted privately before the #bringbackazonto campaign was launched on social media.
