The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of six private security guards in connection with the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, at Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region.

According to a press release issued by the Ghana Police Service, on Sunday, June 21, 2026, the suspects were arrested as part of ongoing investigations into the incident which reportedly left the former lawmaker injured.

The Police revealed that following the arrests, a search operation was conducted, leading to the recovery of five pump-action guns, one Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine containing five rounds of 9mm ammunition, and communication equipment.

The statement explained that preliminary investigations began after personnel from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate, who were on special duty, received a distress call from a residence at Kwabenya and quickly moved to the location.

Upon arrival, the Police said they established that a ceremony was taking place at the residence of Mr. Tamakloe Safo, also known as Jehoshaphat Akofa, when Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo allegedly arrived and requested access to the premises but was denied entry.

The Police further stated that investigations so far indicate that armed security personnel at the residence allegedly discharged firearms during the incident, resulting in an injury to Sarah Adwoa Safo.

The former MP’s vehicle was also reportedly found with multiple gunshot marks, according to the Police statement.

The arrested suspects, together with the exhibits retrieved, have since been transferred to the Police Headquarters to assist with further investigations.

The Ghana Police Service added that investigations are still ongoing to identify and arrest other individuals who may be connected to the incident.

The development comes amid public attention surrounding the circumstances leading to the confrontation, with earlier reports from the Kristo Asafo Mission disputing some accounts of what happened during the incident. The Police have, however, stated that their investigations will establish the full facts surrounding the matter.
