Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2028 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed sympathy to Ghanaians affected by the widespread flooding that hit parts of Accra and other regions following hours of heavy rainfall.

His reaction comes as emergency response teams continue rescue operations in flood-hit communities across the Greater Accra Region, where several homes were submerged and major roads were rendered impassable.

Bawumia Expresses Sympathy for Flood Victims

In a social media message shared on Monday, June 29, Dr Bawumia extended his condolences to families who have lost property and those displaced by the disaster.

He noted that his thoughts were with affected residents and called for national unity as the country navigates the crisis.

Call for Emergency Response and Compliance

Dr Bawumia also urged citizens to strictly comply with directives issued by government and emergency institutions, stressing the importance of coordinated action during such natural disasters.

He further appealed to emergency services, including disaster response agencies, to intensify efforts to reach affected communities and provide urgent assistance to victims trapped by floodwaters.

Accra Floods Disrupt Movement and Daily Life

The flooding, triggered by continuous rainfall, affected several parts of the capital including Mallam, Kaneshie, Achimota, Weija, Kasoa, Klagon, Tse Addo and Dzowulu, with major transport corridors becoming impassable.

Motorists were stranded for hours as traffic built up on alternative routes, while commercial transport operators suspended services in heavily flooded areas.

The situation left many commuters unable to reach workplaces and other destinations, worsening congestion across the city.

Authorities Intensify Rescue Operations

Emergency agencies, including the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), continue to assess the situation and support affected residents.

Authorities have advised the public to avoid flood-prone areas and adhere strictly to safety instructions as rainfall warnings remain in effect.

Growing National Concern Over Flooding

The recurring flooding in Accra has once again sparked concerns over drainage systems and urban planning, with stakeholders calling for long-term solutions to reduce the impact of seasonal rains.

Dr Bawumia’s message adds to a growing list of national voices responding to the disaster, as Ghana continues to deal with the aftermath of one of the most disruptive floods in recent times.
