Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has been released from custody after completing the bail requirements set in his extradition case tied to alleged romance fraud investigations in the United States.
His legal representative, Papa Kofi Essel, confirmed the development in an interview with Citi News on Friday, May 15, noting that the court’s conditions had been fully met.
The Accra High Court had earlier granted Abu Trica bail in the sum of GH¢30 million, backed by two justified sureties, as part of proceedings linked to a U.S. extradition request.

According to Mr Essel, the legal team ensured all directives were satisfied, paving the way for his client’s release on the same day. He further framed the outcome as an encouraging reflection of legal safeguards and constitutional protections in practice.
“He was released today, May 15. Ghana is advancing in recognising the fundamental human rights of citizens, and the rule of law is working,” he said.
Abu Trica had been in police custody since his arrest in December 2025, following a request from United States authorities over allegations connected to romance fraud.
