Famed within the entertainment sphere as Samuel Dortey Kumah, or Sammy Kay, the celebrity blogger, has encountered legal troubles following his arrest and subsequent handover to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
The Cyber Security Authority issued a statement on November 16, 2023, outlining the reasons behind Sammy Kay’s detention, citing allegations of publishing sexually explicit material and the unauthorized use of images belonging to the Cyber Security Authority (CSA).
Quoting the statement, “Samuel Dortey Kumah, owner of Sammykaymedia, stands accused of circulating sexually explicit content and misusing images of Cyber Security Authority officials. Consequently, he has been apprehended and transferred to the CID.”
Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, the Cyber Security Authority cautioned against the dissemination of explicit content, clarifying their disassociation from such material and urging the public to disregard any potentially criminal misrepresentation.
The CSA reasserted its commitment to its mission, collaborating with various security agencies to safeguard Ghana’s digital landscape and ensure the digital well-being of its citizens.
Though the specifics of Sammy Kay’s circulated content weren’t explicitly detailed in the statement, investigations into his social media platforms revealed an apology post accompanied by an image of a man in a white T-shirt labeled “National Cyber Security Awareness Programme.”
His apology, shared on November 15, 2023, at 9:42 am, acknowledged a mismatch between the photo he shared and the individual depicted in the controversial video circulating online.
Notably, on the same day, controversial media figure and independent parliamentary candidate for the Gomoa Central constituency, A Plus, took to his social media platforms, asserting that the disseminated videos did not feature the deputy director of the cybercrime unit, further adding to the unfolding controversy.
