Church members who drop just GH¢1 or GH¢2 into the offering bowl despite worshipping in well-equipped churches are not showing enough appreciation for the cost of maintaining those facilities, according to Heaven’s Gate Ministries founder Nicholas Osei, better known as Prophet Kumchacha.

The outspoken preacher revisited his long-held stance during an interview on Hitz FM on July 6, 2026, arguing that while people have different financial abilities, worshippers should also recognise the financial burden churches carry to keep their doors open and provide a conducive environment for services.

Kumchacha said expenses such as maintaining clean premises, running air conditioners, and keeping church infrastructure in good condition require substantial funding. For that reason, he believes members should be more thoughtful when deciding what to contribute during offerings.

He maintained that although no one should be forced to give beyond their means, those who consistently enjoy the benefits of a well-maintained church while contributing very little are not being fair to the institution.

“Sometimes people should be considerate. When I say considerate, I mean that when you attend a church with air conditioning, see how tidy the church environment is kept, and then, after the service, it’s time to give an offering, and you give GH¢1 or GH¢2, then you are a wicked person,” Kumchacha stated.

The conversation also turned to politics, with the Heaven’s Gate Ministries leader revealing how he cast his ballot in Ghana’s 2024 general election.

Kumchacha disclosed that he voted for President John Dramani Mahama and said he has no regrets about that choice. According to him, his admiration for the president extends beyond politics, pointing to Mahama’s humility, manner of speaking, and personality as qualities he finds admirable.

He also recalled attending a meeting between Mahama and members of the clergy during the closing stages of the election campaign, noting that he was present in his capacity as president of a clergy association.

“During the last part of his [Mahama] campaign, he met with some members of the clergy. I was among about 70 pastors he met. I am the president of that clergy association. I voted for the NDC. I like everything about John Mahama. I like the way he walks, his humility, the way he talks, everything about him is nice,” Kumchacha revealed.
