The President of the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO), Rex Omar, has joined the growing chorus of voices calling for the resignation of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta due to concerns over the mismanagement of Ghana’s economy.

The musician and music producer, who is a known sympathizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), made this explicitly clear during the NDC’s Occupy Bank of Ghana demonstration.

This protest aims to pressure the government to remove Ken Ofori-Atta from his position as Minister of Finance and the resignation of the Bank of Ghana governor and his deputies, as they are held responsible for accumulating a substantial amount of debt that has had detrimental effects on the Ghanaian economy.

Speaking at the demonstration, Rex Omar extended his gratitude to all the well-meaning Ghanaians who participated in the event.

While speaking, Rex Omar asserted, “Ken Ofori-Atta must resign, and in light of these issues, let us refrain from supporting Akufo-Addo in the 2024 elections. This demonstration is just the beginning, and it won’t conclude today. To all those gathered here, I urge you to spread the message that today marks the commencement of a long journey. I appreciate your willingness to leave your homes and stand with us; it demonstrates your love for Ghana.”

The Bank of Ghana has been under intense public scrutiny after reports disclosed a loss of over GH¢60 billion cedis in 2022. Furthermore, experts and members of the opposition party have accused the bank of printing GH¢22.04 billion in 2022 without obtaining parliamentary approval. Additionally, the bank is alleged to have written off GH¢32 billion in government debt.
