Kuami Eugene Claims TGMA Doesn’t Define Who’s Doing Better In The Industry

0

Kuami Eugene believes artistes should stop measuring their worth by the number of Telecel Ghana Music Awards they win, insisting that real success in the industry goes beyond trophies and award-night recognition.

During an interview on MX24, the singer explained that many musicians have remained relevant and successful for years without constantly relying on awards to prove their impact.

“TGMA doesn’t define who’s doing better in the industry. There are some artistes who have been here for decades and they’re still doing well,” he said.

According to him, musicians should not allow disappointment from losing awards to overshadow the effort they put into their craft, because one night does not determine an entire career.

“Sometimes they forget if they’ve ever had a TGMA award before. It’s all good if you’re not the champion for that evening,” he stated.

The ‘Monica’ hitmaker also encouraged fans to continue standing behind their favourite artistes regardless of award results, noting that dedication and hard work deserve recognition too.

“Your fans should be proud of you because you’ve worked as hard as everyone,” Eugene stressed.

“Make Things Work” – Fred Amugi Challenges New NFA Leadership

Veteran actor Fred Amugi has called on the new leadership of the National Film Authority to deliver meaningful change in Ghana’s movie industry, reminding them that they were once among the loudest critics of the previous administration.

Speaking during an interview on MX24 TV, the celebrated actor said expectations are now high for Executive Secretary Kafui Danku-Pitcher and Deputy Executive Secretary James Gardiner because they had openly questioned the direction of the authority before assuming office.

“The very people sitting there now were part of those who were saying that the last administration is not working. So now that you are there, we are expecting you to make things work,” he said.

Fred Amugi, however, expressed optimism about the authority’s latest plans to revive old cinema houses across Accra, describing the initiative as a potentially important step toward rebuilding Ghana’s cinema culture.

According to him, he had previously discussed the issue with James Gardiner long before the latter took office, and believes the current leadership now has the opportunity to turn those conversations into reality.

“Somebody like James, this topic, we have sat and discussed it. So, if James has now gotten the seat and the power to bring those things back, it is for the better,” he noted.

The comments come as officials of the National Film Authority intensify efforts to restore several abandoned cinema facilities that once served as key entertainment centres in the capital.

Recently, Kafui Danku-Pitcher and James Gardiner led an inspection tour of some of Accra’s long-neglected movie theatres, including the Roxy Cinema in Adabraka and the Orion Cinema at Circle, both of which have remained shut for years.

The delegation also visited former cinema venues such as Rex Cinema and Oxford Cinema to assess their current conditions.

Your salary is GHS 3K but you spend GHS 500 every weekend how do you become rich – Kwaku Manu advises GH youths

Ghanaian actor Kwaku Manu has expressed concern over what he describes as excessive spending habits among many young people, urging them to embrace discipline and sacrifice if they want to achieve financial success.

The Kumawood actor made the remarks while speaking at a birthday gathering organised for businessman Ernest Ofori Sarpong at the Despite Auto Museum.

His comments came in response to public criticism surrounding the lavish gifts presented by businessman Osei Kwame Despite and his associates during the celebration.

According to Kwaku Manu, many of the people criticising wealthy individuals for spending on luxury items are themselves failing to manage their own finances properly.

“If you are a young person, try to limit how you enjoy life,” he said. “You earn less than GH¢3,000, yet every weekend you’re out chilling.”

The actor further broke down his point using simple financial comparisons, arguing that consistent unnecessary spending makes it difficult to accumulate wealth.

“Let’s say you spend GH¢500 each week, how do you expect to become wealthy?” he asked. “You can’t become wealthy without sacrifice, sometimes even going hungry.”

Kwaku Manu stressed that building wealth is a gradual process that requires discipline, patience, and wise financial choices rather than constant spending on entertainment and luxury.

His comments have since sparked discussions online, with some social media users agreeing with his perspective on financial discipline, while others argued that people should also enjoy life while working hard.

VIDEO: “They don’t think deep” – Kwaku Manu Defends Despite & East Legon Executive Fitness Club Over Expensive Alcoholic Birthday Gifts To Dr Ernest Ofori Sarpong

Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu has responded to criticism directed at businessman Osei Kwame Despite and members of the East Legon Executive Fitness Club following their presentation of expensive alcoholic beverages to billionaire entrepreneur Ernest Ofori Sarpong ahead of his 60th birthday celebration.

The criticism emerged after videos surfaced showing members of the club gifting premium alcoholic drinks reportedly valued at around $10,000 to Dr Ofori Sarpong during celebrations held at the Despite Auto Museum on May 5, 2026.

Speaking to the media at the event, Kwaku Manu argued that many people misunderstood the gesture because they were viewing it from a different financial perspective.

According to the actor, individuals who have attained a certain level of wealth naturally spend differently, and such displays should serve as motivation rather than attract criticism.

“Before the birthday celebration, when some members of East Legon Executive Fitness Club presented expensive alcoholic beverages, I realised the act stirred some controversy. But I see it as motivation. If you don’t think deeply, you might assume they are wasting money,” he said.

Kwaku Manu added that once people attain significant wealth, large expenditures may no longer feel extraordinary.

“When God blesses you to a certain level, $10,000 begins to feel like just GH¢1,000 because you’ve built that level of wealth,” he stated.

The actor also used the opportunity to advise young people to be disciplined with money and avoid unnecessary spending if they hope to become financially successful.

“If you are a young person, try to limit how you enjoy life. Many young people today spend money on unnecessary enjoyment. You earn less than GH¢3,000, yet every weekend you’re out ‘chilling’.

Let’s say you spend GH¢500 each week, how do you expect to become wealthy? You can’t become wealthy without sacrifice, sometimes even going hungry,” he said.

VIDEO: Prophet Roja Predicts Another Global Lockdown, Warns Of New Pandemic

Ghanaian pastor, Henry Samuel, popularly known as Prophet Roja, has stirred widespread reactions online after delivering a prophecy about a possible new global pandemic and lockdown.

Speaking in an interview with Ohenemaa Woyeje on Angel FM, the prophet claimed that the world could soon experience another lockdown situation similar to, but more severe than, the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Prophet Roja, the anticipated crisis would result from a new virus that he believes has already emerged.

“Airports and borders of some African countries will soon be closed. There is another lockdown coming, and so when we see it like this, we only pray that God should have mercy on Ghana,” he said.

He further claimed that although countries across the world would feel the impact, African nations would suffer the most severe effects.

“Although other countries will feel the impact, African countries will have the greatest experience, and the impact would be stronger than that of COVID-19. The new virus has already been released,” he added.

The prophecy has generated intense discussion online, with some social media users expressing concern while others questioned the credibility of the claims.

Clips from the interview have since circulated widely on platforms including TikTok, fueling debates about prophecies, public fear, and the lingering memories of the COVID-19 era.

Wendy Shay Says She Deserves TGMA Artiste Of The Year After Big Year

Ghanaian singer Wendy Shay is making a strong push for the top honour at the upcoming Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), insisting that her performance over the past year puts her firmly in the race for Artiste of the Year.

In a recent interview with Kafui Dey, she explained that her consistency, growth and recent achievements strengthen her belief that she deserves a place at the top of the category.

“I’m very much hopeful about winning the Artiste of the Year. The funny thing is, last year was my seventh year in the industry and I will be eight years in June. It’s 2025, the year under review, so it’s seven nominations, seventh year. It just makes a lot of sense,” she said.

She reflected on her entry into the industry, recalling the difficult period that followed the passing of her former label mate and how she was introduced by her manager, Bullet, under challenging circumstances.

“I’m hopeful because looking at how my journey started and how I was introduced by Bullet on that same stage, most of you are aware of the rejection and the position I faced because of the passing away of my label mate,” she stated.

A win at this year’s TGMA would go beyond personal recognition for Wendy Shay. She believes it would reshape her story and serve as motivation for others coming up in the industry.

She argued that her work rate, visibility and stage presence throughout the year speak for themselves and justify her place among the contenders.

“If I should win this year’s TGMA Artiste of the Year, it’s going to be a paradigm shift and inspiration for a lot of people. Before I come to this, the numbers are already speaking for themselves. I have worked hard and I’ve done whatever any artiste is supposed to do in that category. I have played shows all over,” she shared.

She also pointed to one of her self-hosted events, which she described as a major highlight of her year after attracting an unprecedented crowd.

“Last year, I had one of the biggest shows I hosted myself and per the statistics, there were over 100,000 people that showed up. When it was recorded, they said that was the highest number of people they’ve ever seen,” she noted.

According to her, achieving such a feat as a female artiste makes the milestone even more significant within Ghana’s music landscape.

“This to be done by a female artiste is something that has never happened in the history of Ghana music,” she said.

“It’s going to be a testament and consistency, a testimony of not giving up. Receiving that award could inspire a lot of female artistes. If I could do it regardless of the obstacles I faced, they could also do it,” Wendy Shay added.

“I Was Easy Bait” – Wendy Shay Speaks On Years Of Online Backlash

Wendy Shay is challenging the narrative that has followed her for years, insisting what she endured in the spotlight was not just harsh commentary but targeted bullying.

During a recent interview with Kafui Dey, the “Heaven” singer spoke candidly about how her name became a magnet for online engagement. She said discussions about her often had less to do with accuracy and more to do with the attention they could attract, turning her into a recurring talking point across digital spaces.

“If you are someone like Wendy Shay, if they say something about you, it’s going to give them that traction. They’ll use you as bait, whether it’s negative or positive. Once it’s giving them attention, that’s what they go for. But I think now, people are beginning to realize that you don’t have to believe everything you see on social media”, she explained.

When the issue of bullying came up, she dismissed any softer interpretation of her experience and opted for a blunt assessment.

“I didn’t feel bullied, I was bullied,” she stated.

She linked much of the backlash to two familiar dynamics. One, the constant comparison to a beloved figure fans were reluctant to move on from. Two, the tendency for online users to drop her name into conversations simply to draw eyes and reactions.

“The fact that some people felt I wasn’t good enough because they thought I was trying to fill the shoes of someone they loved dearly… and also because they knew that whenever you talk about Wendy Shay, it brings attention. I became easy bait, easy prey,” Wendy Shay disclosed.

Okyeame Kwame Chooses Impact Over Stadium Glory

The image of a packed stadium no longer defines success for Okyeame Kwame. The veteran Hiplife artiste says that the chapter of ambition has faded, replaced by a deeper interest in personal fulfilment and meaningful impact.

During a recent discussion on Talk To Kula, he opened up about how time has reshaped his outlook. What once felt like a career peak now sits lower on his list of priorities, as he leans into a calmer and more introspective way of living.

“When I was much younger, I wanted to do that, but now I’m happier sitting by a river and thinking to myself. That, for me, is more fulfilling than filling a stadium. I want to be happy. All things being equal, I have less than 50 years on earth, so I want to enjoy myself. I’m not about to carry on too many problems,” he said.

Even so, he has not ruled out the possibility entirely. The difference, he explained, is that it is no longer something he actively chases.

“I am not interested in doing that. However, when it gets to a point where it is possible for me to do it, I won’t say I wouldn’t, but I’m not fixated on those things,” he stated.

What now guides him is a stronger pull toward influence and contribution, particularly within Ghana’s development space.

“I am more interested in impact, especially in Ghana, through the music, through learning new things, and through interacting with people who want to bring development into the country. That is more of my direction now,” Okyeame Kwame clarified.

Wendy Shay Commends Bullet for Unwavering Support Amid Industry Doubts

Ghanaian singer, Wendy Shay has expressed deep appreciation for her former label boss Bullet, crediting him for standing by her during the early stages of her career.

Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey, Wendy Shay highlighted Bullet’s unique ability to recognize potential and remain supportive, even when others doubted her.

“I am always grateful to Bullet for always being that person who understood everybody’s journey; he never made me feel less of myself. He always saw the bigger picture, always saw who I was even though people called him and told him he should forget me,” she said.

According to the singer, several industry players reportedly advised Bullet to distance himself from her during challenging periods. However, she noted that he remained steadfast in his belief in her talent and potential.

Wendy Shay’s remarks underscore the impact of having a strong support system in a competitive industry, where belief and guidance can make a critical difference in an artist’s journey.
