Embrace Global Sounds To Achieve Global Success – DopeNation To Artistes

0

DopeNation want to see Ghana’s sound take its rightful place on the world stage, and they’re challenging fellow artistes to think beyond borders.

The twin brothers, Michael and Tony Boafo, told Graphic Showbiz that blending global music trends with Ghana’s cultural essence is the key to breaking into international markets. For them, exploring genres like Amapiano is not about abandoning local identity but about expanding it.

“Thinking globally means being open to new styles and stepping outside one’s comfort zone. Not just Amapiano, but any sound that is gaining recognition worldwide. If we want to go global, we need to think globally, which means moving out of our local space,” they said.

Their latest album, Ghanapiano, captures that vision. More than a genre, it’s a movement, a Ghanaian spin on the hugely popular Amapiano style that has swept across Africa. The project weaves Ghana’s cultural richness into the rhythmic pulse of Amapiano, creating a hybrid sound that bridges homegrown tradition with continental connection.

“We are already unique due to our culture. Ghanapiano adds to this dynamism. We are using it as a bridge between Ghana and the rest of Africa. While Amapiano differs from our local Ghanaian sound, Ghanapiano merges both into one,” they explained.

DopeNation stated that music is more than entertainment; it’s a duty to represent their heritage. “It’s clear that we are Ghanaian and rich in our unique sound. It is only right to promote our culture, as we have been inspired by various types of music in Ghana. It’s essential to push our sound and culture through Ghanapiano.

“In addition to spreading good energy and vibes, Ghanapiano fosters a sense of community and connection between us and our fans. This will lead to not just a genre, but a catalogue of works that will enhance concerts, festivals and employment opportunities,” they shared.

When asked how they would reshape Ghana’s music industry, their focus was clear: support the producers. “That’s a broad question but we believe we should focus more on producers because supporting them is crucial for strengthening the entire industry. They are the source of the music. Once they are supported, everything else will fall into place,” the duo stated.

“When I got to the airport, the immigration officers asked me who I was going to visit, and I mentioned the name. They then asked me if I had called the person before getting to the airport, and I told them yes. So they asked me to call her, but after calling her several times, the person refused to pick up my calls.

“The immigration officers started calling her from 6 AM to 4 PM, but my friend didn’t pick up my calls. They then took me to a room where there were a lot of cameras and everyone was even looking at me,” she said.

Empress Gifty revealed that her ex-husband sought help from then-Ghanaian Foreign Minister Hannah Tetteh, but even high-level intervention failed to change the situation.

“I called my ex-husband, and he called the then foreign minister, who was Hannah Tetteh. She even called the immigration officers to allow me to stay in my hotel room. But they refused. They were like, until the girl picks up the calls, they were not going to allow me to enter the UK,” she recalled.

The popular gospel singer said she was sent back to Ghana the same day, her two-year visa cancelled in less than a week. She added that her most recent trip to the UK was a deliberate move to silence critics who ridiculed her over the episode.

“When their efforts were not proving fruitful, my husband called and asked them to return me to Ghana. The immigration officer spoiled my two-year visa that I had gotten within a week.”
