Renowned movie producer Kofi Asamoah is aggrieved at the Cinematograph Exhibition Board of Control for stopping him from releasing his movie ‘Oh Uncle Attah’ but has given his colleague, Kaakyire Kwame Appiah the go ahead to premiere his latest movie, ‘Who Killed Uncle Attah?’.
Kofas sharing his ordeal on Radio Univers’ mid-morning entertainment show, Brunch2Lunch said the censorship board had a problem with his movie title seven years back but saw nothing wrong with Kaakyire’s when he submitted it for review. The sorrowful movie producer disclosed that they denied him the chance of releasing the movie because they said the title ‘Oh Uncle Attah’ was political. According to him, the reason they gave him was awkward because the movie had nothing to do with the then president, late Attah Mills.
“They said it was towards the presidency at the time because of the title “Oh Uncle Attah”. I defended it that the name ‘Uncle Attah’ could be anyone but they insisted that they will not allow it to be released. I had already produced about 20,000 copies of the movie.” Kofas told Zionfelix, host of the show.
The CEO of Kofas Media continued that he spent between Gh30, 000 and Gh40, 000 on the movie which was banned so he cannot fathom why censorship board which prevented him from selling ‘Oh Uncle Attah’ will bend the rules to permit Kaakyire Kwame Appiah to release a movie with the late president’s name as a title.
When Kaakyire Kwame Appiah was called on the show, he confirmed producing a movie titled ‘Who Killed Uncle Attah?’. He also affirmed that the Cinematograph Exhibition Board of Control has allowed him to premiere the movie because there was no way they could ban the film. The musician cum actor stated that he would have sued them if they prevented him from selling ‘Who Killed Uncle Attah?’ movie since he has spent about Gh100, 000 on it. To him, the movie has nothing to do with the death of late Mills so the censorship board has no reason to ban the film.
“Anybody who wants to ban my movie wants to stand before court because ‘Who Killed Uncle Attah?’ refers to nobody. Maybe Kofi was quiet after he was stopped but I’ll never be mute if it happens to me.” he said.
Kaakyire Kwame Appiah telling Zionfelix the synopses of the movie expected to be premiered on September 2 at Miklin Hotel in Kumasi said, “it is about one M.C.E whose deputy found him a wife and later died. So we are asking who killed Uncle Attah? Is it the deputy, wife or people around who envied him? The family of the M.C.E wanted some benefits from him but he was not giving them the attention and at the same time his deputy wanted to occupy his position and wife also wanted his property so we are asking about the murderer of this M.C.E called Uncle Attah”.
Kofi Asamoah called back on the show after Kaakyire Kwame Appiah’s explanation accusing censorship board of not being fair to him because he believes ‘Who Killed Uncle Attah?’ is a political movie, which should not have been approved. He also accused Kaakyire Kwame Appiah of paying bribe to the classification board to permit the movie, a claim Mr. Appiah denied.
“If the classification board really approved this movie then there is a serious issue there and some of us won’t be quiet about it unless Kaakyire paid something behind for the movie to be passed. The title ‘Who Killed Uncle Attah?’ is more political than the one I chose years ago.” Kofas alleged.
Kwamena Amoah, Secretary of censorship board explaining why Kofas’ ‘Oh Uncle Attah’ was banned but allowed Kaakyire Kwame Appiah’s ‘Who Killed Uncle Attah?’ movie disclosed that the board did not stop Kofi Asamoah’s movie because of the title but the content. Mr Amoah continued that the content of Kofas’ movie was not good for public consumption hence the decision to cease him from releasing it.
Investigative journalists Manasseh Azure Awuni has reacted to claim by Menzgold that he demanded money from them to drop a story about their relationship with Swiss Global.
The Multimedia Group employee after reports that he called officials of Menzgold for money took to Facebook to deny the allegation. He said “Ignore the malicious lies being circulated after I published the Menzgold story. I have never been to the office of Menzgold. I have never seen or met any of the officials of Menzgold, whether in or outside their office. After I received the reply from Swiss Gold Global stating that the company had no affiliation with Menzgold, I called an official of Menzgold, who also confirmed the email from Swiss Gold Global and said the information about the affiliation was still on the site because of an IT problem. He promised Menzgold would take it from the company’s website, which it has done. Beyond this, I have not engaged any official of Menzgold. Ignore the lies.”
Menzgold accused Manasseh Azure of requesting for cash after he reported on myjoyonline.com Wednesday, August 16 that “Switzerland-based gold company, Swiss Gold Global, says it is not affiliated to Ghanaian gold trader, Menzgold Ghana and has not authorised it or Menzbanc to use its name.
Swiss Gold Global in an e-mail conversation with Joy News’ Manasseh Awuni Azure Tuesday, said it has no association whatsoever with Menzgold, contrary to claims by the latter.
The revelation contradicts the information captured on the local gold trader’s website, which said it has an affiliation with the Swiss-based company.
“By our affiliation to Swissgold global in Switzerland; sharing in the objectives of turning the fortunes of groups and individuals around by ensuring absolute financial freedom for people, has inspired or drive us to attain the unprecedented height and records we’ve set in Africa,” the website of Menzgold, www.menzgold.com read on Tuesday evening while Manasseh was speaking to an official of Menzgold.
But following an email exchange, an official of the Swiss Gold Global said they were contacted by one of Menzgold’s founders but there was no affiliation.
“Please note that Swiss Gold Global and its associated companies have no association with Menzbanc regarding any of their investments,” the email from the Swiss company said.
Swiss Gold Global said Menzgold has neither purchased any precious metal from any of its affiliated companies nor has it served as a safe house for its metals.
The email said Swiss Gold Global could not “recommend or negate” Menzgold’s investment opportunities.”

‘MenzGold Ghana was affiliated to Swiss Global but as businesses evolved, MenzGold Ghana and Swiss Global parted ways as their objectives for the said period were achieved.
Manasseh Azure, an investigative journalist, called some key members of the company yesterday for money so he will drop the news Swiss Global and MenzGold affiliation. The pivotal substance of this claim by Mannessh Azure is unfounded and unscrupulous.
Yes, MenzGold affiliated with Swiss Global at a point they partnered to stand on their feet but that affiliation is no more because MenzGold objective for the affiliation was achieved. Even Universities that have gained prominence have once affiliated with another university.
Ghanaians might have deep respect for this ace journalist, but Manasseh Azure is a stomach investigative journalist. It is interesting to see what his finding will be. I will dispute this reportage and will dare Manasseh to tell the world such unmerited story.
Did Manasseh Azure think Management of MenzGold will kowtow to his dubious means of taking money? MenzGold is far above that. People like him, makes one wonder what is true journalism?.’
This reply came from Menzgold after Manasseh Azure reported on myjoyonline.com Wednesday, August 16 that “Switzerland-based gold company, Swiss Gold Global, says it is not affiliated to Ghanaian gold trader, Menzgold Ghana and has not authorised it or Menzbanc to use its name.

The official told the reporter, the information about the affiliation with Swiss Gold Global was to enhance their fortunes as a fledgling company in Ghana, adding their IT team would effect the changes.
Menzgold has subsequently put on its website, www.menzgold.com, that it has no affiliation with the Swiss Gold Global.
The Ghanaian gold trader has published a disclaimer which reads: “Mengold was an affiliate of Swiss Gold Global but opted out because there was the need to build to a formidable brand that is not dependent on any other brand.”
