Many Ghanaians Have A Lazy Mindset, Sometimes I Laugh When We Blame Politicians – Shatta Wale

Ghanaian Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, has said politicians should not be blamed for the woes of Ghanaians.

He stated that many Ghanaians have a lazy mindset and they not take up opportunities.

The Shatta Movement boss said he sometimes laugh when politicians are blamed.

“Sometimes, when we blame the politicians, I laugh. Politicians are doing everything they can to work as politicians. It’s just that when you’re lazy in your mind and you don’t know how to take advantage of opportunities yourself, you will always be talking about politicians.

“Politicians are like cartels with how they run things. It’s not that they’re disrespecting the people; they promise, and you vote for them. But when they go to the white man and take money from them, the white man thinks that they will use it to provide jobs for the youth. They don’t know that the politician will take that money and give it to cheap labour, those from the rural areas,” he said in an interview with 3 Music.

Okyeame Kwame is pointing fingers at streaming platforms for not having what it takes to encourage young artistes to do Hiplife.

He said the lack of Hiplife category on streaming platforms is the reason why young artistes in Ghana are not doing Hiplife music.

The popular rapper emphasized the changes that have come with regards to music promotion.

“Music and marketing these days are about money. Gone are the days when we used to sell our CDs to promote our music and make money,” he told Afia Owusu on TV XYZ’s XZONE.

“Now music is on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon. The online platforms have no genre called Hiplife. So, where are you going to sell your music when you call it Hiplife? There’s no Hiplife on streaming platforms; all they have is hip hop, Afrobeat, neo soul, soul, alternative music, African music, and experimental. So, if your song is not one of these categories, it’s more like creating a round product where the shelves are all in square shape,” the Rap Doctor added.

Okyeame Kwame also stated that the pioneers of Hiplife should have created a similar platform.

“As pioneers, we should have created a similar platform because these streaming platforms were created by man and we can also do the same. If we had done the same with all Ghanaian genres, the younger generation would have been interested in our genres, but the white man will promote his own with stuff he created.”

#PlayGhana Should Not Be Imposed On Ghanaians – Francis Doku

Ghanaian media consultant, Francis Doku, has shared his view on the #PlayGhana initiative.

In December 2023, the Creative Arts Agency (CAA), the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MoTAC) and some stakeholders in the creative industry launched the #PlayGhana initiative.

It was aimed at promoting Ghanaian music to both local and international audiences in the country.

Speaking as a panellist on Graphic’s Showbiz’s X Dialogue series on the topic ’Is #Play Ghana Agenda a worthy cause?’, Mr Doku pointed out some potential shortcomings in the initiative.

He stated that the #PlayGhana initiative should not be imposed on Ghanaians.

“With this particular agenda, we need to be using more of the moral suasion than legislation. For me, I think the difficulty will be how we are going to monitor and implement the playing of more Ghanaian music on the 70 and 30 ratio.

“We are in a very difficult place because music consumption is not only determined by what’s being played on radio and TV alone. It is what’s on new media as well. There’s no proper control over what happens on new media. How do we measure that? We know new media is not DJ-driven, and that even makes it more difficult to police content consumed by the public. We need to encourage consumption and not impose it on the people.

“The initiative is not something we can monitor to properly execute so the best option for me is to encourage and make consumers see the need to play Ghanaian music on the airwaves and at other social events. This is a matter of moral suasion, else it won’t go anywhere,” said Francis Doku.

Bawumia has betrayed Nana Addo, why can’t he cancel E-Levy now? – Oboy Siki

0

Kumawood actor, Oboy Siki, has expressed skepticism towards Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s commitment to abolish the E-Levy, betting tax, and VAT on electricity should he be elected as president.

Oboy Siki highlighted that Dr Bawumia, in his role as vice president and head of Ghana’s Economic Management Team (EMT), was instrumental in the implementation of the very levies he now pledges to remove. This, according to Oboy Siki, casts a shadow over the credibility of Dr. Bawumia’s promises.

Why wait to remove these charges until you’re president?” Oboy Siki questioned, pointing out the apparent contradiction in Dr. Bawumia’s stance during his current tenure in government.

In an interview with Angel FM, as covered by GhanaWeb, Oboy Siki accused Dr. Bawumia of undermining his own leadership and President Akufo-Addo by promising to eliminate the levies. “He betrayed Akufo-Addo,” Oboy Siki stated, referring to Dr. Bawumia’s intentions as a direct contradiction to the policies approved under their administration.

He was lying through his body language,” Oboy Siki asserted, challenging the vice president’s integrity and questioning his ability to fulfil such promises in the future.

Addressing Dr. Bawumia’s portrayal of himself as playing a secondary role within the government, Oboy Siki dismissed it as nonsensical. “That driver-mate analogy does not make sense. This is somebody who lacks credibility,” he argued, casting doubt on Dr Bawumia’s explanations for his limited actions in his current capacity.

As Dr. Bawumia embarks on his presidential campaign, he faces intense scrutiny for his part in the nation’s economic downturn. He is set to contest against former President John Dramani Mahama and other candidates in the upcoming elections.

In his landmark speech at the UPSA auditorium in Accra on February 7, 2024, Dr Bawumia, as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) chosen candidate, compared his governmental role to that of a “driver’s mate,” promising a new direction if granted the presidential mandate.

Judge me not by the current government’s performance but by what I can achieve in the driver’s seat,” Dr Bawumia appealed to the electorate, outlining his vision for Ghana’s future.

Only 8% of Ghanaian politicians are wise – Nana Aba Anamoah

0

Ghanaian media personality Nana Aba Anamoah has criticized the majority of politicians in the country, labeling them as “senseless and unpatriotic.”

In a a live studio discussion on 3Music TV on February 15, 2024, Nana Aba stated that only 8% of the politicians in Ghana are sensible and hardworking.

According to her, the rest are there to exploit the state and enrich themselves.

“I’m looking at some of our politicians. I think we have only 8% of the politicians in Ghana who are sensible. Across the board, only 8%.

“The rest of them are just there, not by dint of hard work, not because they are so passionate about this country. They just see the opportunity to milk the state. And they are doing everything possible to get there. They’re the loud ones, always insulting,” she said.

Nana Aba, however, mentioned that she did not want to dwell on the negative aspects of the politicians but rather focus on the positive changes that were happening in the country.

“But I believe we can do better. Things are changing, and that’s why I appreciate this generation because it is an improvement over our previous one,” she stated.

She added that she was passionate about Ghana and wanted to see it prosper and develop.
