GHAMRO should be closed down —Akosua Agyapong states

Veteran Highlife musician Akosua Adjepong has urged the office of the Attorney General to take action and shut down the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) due to alleged illegal operations by the interim management committee.

In her interview with Graphic Showbiz on Tuesday, May 23, Akosua Adjepong highlighted that the interim management committee, led by Chairman Rex Omar, was functioning unlawfully as their authority lacked legal backing.

She emphasized that GHAMRO’s license had not been renewed by the office of the Attorney General, rendering those in charge unauthorized to run the organization.

Akosua Adjepong’s call for the closure of GHAMRO is based on the contention that the interim management committee’s actions are in violation of the law.

“The good office of the Attorney General hasn’t renewed GHAMRO’s licence due to court issues. Some of our people actually took the interim management committee to court and the judge asked them to step down for new elections to be held

But before that, a Mediation Board led by Madam Esi Sutherland-Addy was instituted and they asked us to do three things—amend our constitution, conduct an audit of our accounts and hold elections.

However, as of this time, no elections have been held and we have Rex Omar and his team still manning affairs without any legal mandate. My argument is that the Interim Management or board’s licence was not renewed because we didn’t fulfil all the three requirements by the Mediation Board,” she said.

Akosua Adjepong told Graphic Showbiz that it was very disappointing for her critics to reduce her present positioning to a hate campaign against Rex Omar when she was only seeking for the right things to be done.

Although GHAMRO is a collective management organisation (CMO) and not a welfare group, it is mandated by its constitution to allocate 10 per cent of the money received as royalties to cater for the welfare of musicians.
When I talk, people think that I’m just making empty claims and unfounded allegations but they don’t know that I’m taking my information from GHAMRO’s 2021 annual report sent to members.

“At the moment, it is required that GHAMRO uses 10 per cent of its money received as royalties for the welfare of musicians. From the 2021 report, those who are managing the fund are paid GH₵72,000 annually; yet, members in dire need don’t get assistance.

“That is not all. The same report mentioned that the interim management committee used GH₵132,000 for refreshment and sitting allowances. The committee sits four times a year.

“The report also showed that they buy new cars and computers every year. But what really intrigues me the most is that those who collect the royalties (spinners) are paid a whopping GH₵433,000 yearly. How much is the musician who is the creator of the content even paid?” she asked.

According to Akosua Adjepong, even though membership of GHAMRO was said to be 4000, there was no official list making it difficult to tell if legitimate members received their royalties.

They claim that musicians are 4000 and I’ve asked them to get an official list of members so that we know who is receiving royalties. I’m bringing this out because I met Ambolley at a programme recently and he mentioned that he didn’t receive the last payment that came in December last year.

“Also, per the Legislative Instrument (LI), whatever money is collected, members need to know, as well as what is due us. Part of the LI says that musicians need to be paid every six months but since 2015 till date, GHAMRO does what it wants. Honestly, we don’t know the money that they share,” she added.

My wife and family are not happy that I dress like a woman – DJ Azonto reveals

DJ Azonto, a Ghanaian DJ turned musician, has defended his choice of clothing, stating that despite facing criticism, it is what enables him to earn a living.

After gaining widespread attention with his hit single “Fa no Fom,” DJ Azonto’s decision to dress in female fashion has become a never-ending hot topic on social media.

Despite the backlash he has received for his unconventional attire, DJ Azonto has boldly announced in a recent interview with Graphic Showbiz that he has no intentions of changing his style anytime soon, as it is his primary source of income.

During the interview, he acknowledged that while many may not agree with his fashion choices, he remains unapologetic, recognizing that it is what puts food on his table and sustains his career.

As an adult who is a husband and father of three kids, I know the merits and demerits of what I am doing, I can distinguish what is bad from good, so there is no cause for alarm,” he said.

DJ Azonto added that his family are not enthused about his fashion choices either, but he isn’t fazed because he feeds them through the image he has created in showbiz.

“On Mother’s day for instance, I went to my home town to see my mother and she said the only thing she would want me to do for her is to stop wearing female clothings. She also added that even if I don’t want to stop, I should stop using handbags and wearing heels.

“I responded that if she wants to enjoy life by being well catered for, then I have to keep working and this is all part of it.

“I used to wear a brassiere but I stopped, the truth is that my entire family including my wife are not happy with the things I wear but they want money and this brings money,” DJ Azonto said.

VIDEO: I can easily give out Ghc 50k – Fella Makafui reveals

Fella Makafui has confidently asserted that GHC 50,000 is an insignificant amount for her and she could easily give it away without hesitation during an interview with Zionfelix.

The conversation revolved around Fella’s recent revelation about a former employee who allegedly disappeared with precisely GHC 50,000.

While sharing her emotional response, she clarified that her outburst was not primarily focused on the stolen money itself.

Instead, Fella’s anguish stemmed from the hurt caused by someone she had shown exceptional kindness to.

She had never anticipated such betrayal from an employee whom she had treated well.

Although she vented her frustrations due to the pain caused, she acknowledged that money is merely a material possession and she could effortlessly part with it for anyone deserving.

“The reason why I was venting was not even about the fact that she stole the money. It was about the fact that na me y3 no papa paa [I was good to her]. Like I was so good to her, so coming from someone like her, I was just hurt. I did not expect an employee that was so good to hurt you like that. I was venting out of pain but at the end of the day, it’s money. That money, I could dash it to anyone,” she said.

Zion Felix, surprised by her candid admission, probes further into her ability to part with such a substantial amount.

Fella confidently responds by highlighting that she has employees who receive significant payments.

To her, GHC 50,000 is not a sum to give away lightly. She believes that if one is blessed and financially capable, one can choose to be generous with their resources.

Fella’s comment was a response to a question posed by the blogger regarding her recent claim of an employee swindling her out of GHC 50,000, which she revealed on her Twitter page.

She provided additional insights into the situation, mentioning that the employee in question has been arrested.
