I Could Have Been More Successful In Gospel, But God Placed Me Here – Sista Afia Reveals How Her Career Started

0

Despite being recognised in the secular music scene, Sista Afia thinks her career could have reached even greater heights if she had pursued gospel music.

In a recent interview with Top FM, the Ghanaian singer revealed that a gospel path might have brought her more success, but she feels content with her current direction, confident that God has placed her exactly where she is meant to be.

Sista Afia’s musical journey began in the church. As a child, she sang gospel songs and even recorded a full gospel album at just ten years old.

The ‘Jeje’ singer credited Pastor Papa Sly of Kingdom Light Ministry in Kumasi for nurturing her early talent.

“Papa Sly saw potential in me when I sang in his church. He decided to take me to a recording studio, and together we worked on a seven-track gospel album titled Jesus Christ,” she said.

While the album was never released, she confirmed that copies are still kept in her mother’s house.

“If I was doing gospel, I would have been more successful by now. But I feel like with what I’m doing now, I’m still everywhere. It’s God who has placed us where we are. I was a gospel musician way back when I was a kid. I had a gospel album at the age of ten years. The album is in my mother’s house and the title is Jesus Christ,” Sista Afia stated.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings’ Children Visit Manhyia to Inform Otumfuo About Their Mother’s Death

0

The four children of the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, have paid a solemn visit to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace to officially announce their mother’s passing.

The visit, which took place on Monday, November 3, 2025, formed part of the Asante customary tradition, where the bereaved family formally informs the Asante King of the death of a royal or a distinguished member of Asanteman.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, a pioneering political figure and founder of the National Democratic Party (NDP), passed away at Ridge Hospital in Accra on October 23, 2025, aged 76. She was reportedly rushed to the hospital after falling ill earlier that morning.

According to Oheneba Akwasi Abeyie, the Akomfuohene of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and head of Nana Konadu’s family, the late former First Lady’s health suddenly deteriorated a day after she had attended the funeral service of Lucy Abena Konadu Effah at the Christ the King Church in Accra.

In the wake of her passing, an outpouring of condolences has flooded the Rawlings residence at Ridge, with numerous high-profile personalities visiting to commiserate with the family.

These include President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, and celebrated musicians such as Okyeame Kwame and Kojo Antwi, among others.

During their visit to the Manhyia Palace, Nana Konadu’s children, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Yaa Asantewaa Agyeman-Rawlings, Amina Agyeman-Rawlings, and Kimathi Rawlings appeared in solemn all-black mourning attire.

In a video circulating online, the four siblings are seen entering the palace courtyard, where they were warmly received by Otumfuo’s chiefs and attendants before meeting the Asantehene.

They later received condolences from the royal household and members of the public gathered at the palace.

After the formal announcement, the family was escorted out of the palace by elder members of their extended family and Otumfuo’s aides.

Manhyia postpones ‘Great Oath’ hearing involving Daddy Lumba’s sister

0

The Manhyia Palace has postponed the hearing of a case involving Ernestina Akosua Brempomaa following the invocation of the Great Oath of the Asantehene as the battle for the burial date of Daddy Lumba continues.

The decision to defer the hearing stems from a dramatic turn of events during a court session on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, when Ernestina invoked the sacred oath.

A move that immediately transfers jurisdiction from the court to the Manhyia Palace under Asante customary law.

The case, originally filed by Akosua Serwaa, Daddy Lumba’s first wife, seeks to establish who the lawfully wedded spouse of the late musician is.

Following the invocation, the family was summoned to the Manhyia Palace for a special sitting on Monday, November 3, 2025. However, the hearing was later postponed due to a related pending court case awaiting a verdict.

Meanwhile, the Kumasi High Court has dismissed an injunction application filed by Akosua Serwaa to stop the funeral rites of the late musician.

The court ruled that, in line with Asante custom, the authority over Daddy Lumba’s remains rests with his extended family, not an individual spouse.

Evangelist Lord Kenya Shares How Friends Led Him Into Drug Abuse

0

Former Hiplife star turned preacher, Evangelist Abraham Philip Akpor Kojo, popularly known in the music industry as Lord Kenya, has cautioned the public to be vigilant about the kind of friends they keep, stressing that some friendships can lead to destruction rather than growth.

Speaking during a Sunday sermon at his church, the Face of Grace Covenant Temple, the evangelist recounted how peer pressure and bad influence from friends led him into alcohol and drug abuse during his days as a musician.

“At first I was taught how to drink with the explanation that even if one gets drunk, they will quickly become sober again,” he revealed.

“Then I went to stay with a friend who had marijuana at home and encouraged me to smoke as much as I could.”

Evangelist Lord Kenya, who has been open about his past struggles with addiction, emphasized that some friends only appear supportive on the surface but secretly wish for one’s downfall.

“Some friends come into your life to cause your downfall, to disgrace you. They’ll introduce you to vices and when you fail, they laugh at you,” he warned.

The former Hiplife legend, who once dominated Ghana’s music scene with his energetic performances and chart-topping hits, has since dedicated his life to ministry, using his personal journey as a testimony to inspire and caution others against the dangers of substance abuse and ungodly living.

Evangelist Lord Kenya continues to advocate for moral discipline, personal accountability, and the importance of surrounding oneself with positive, spiritually grounded individuals who encourage growth and righteousness.

“I Don’t Want It To Die” — Sista Afia Stands Up For Highlife Music

0

Sista Afia has protested the narrative that Highlife is on the decline. To her, the genre remains vibrant and deeply rooted in Ghana’s musical identity.

During a discussion on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z with Kwame Dadzie, the Ghanaian singer criticized assertions that paint Highlife as a dying art form. She believes such conversations do more harm than good.

“I don’t like the fact that people keep saying Highlife is dead. It’s become a whole debate now. But personally, I want to keep it going. I love the music. It’s something I grew up listening to. My dad was a Highlife artiste, so it’s part of me. I don’t want it to die, not while I’m alive,” she said.

Sista Afia also celebrated the increasing involvement of young artists in revitalizing Highlife, pointing to rising talent like Super Sandy, with whom she has collaborated. She sees the budding musician as a crucial player in the genre’s future.

“There’s this girl called Super Sandy. I love her. We have a song together. The first time I heard her, I was amazed. I felt like, wow, here’s someone who’s going to help keep the spirit of Highlife alive. And we hardly have women doing Highlife right now; we are very limited,” she revealed.

Though she acknowledged that female representation in Highlife remains low, Sista Afia reiterated her determination to play her part in keeping the genre alive through her music and partnerships.

“I’ll keep doing my part to make sure Highlife stays alive,” she stated.

“I Will Still Take It” — Obaapa Christy Says No Free Gigs, Not Even For Friends

0

Ghanaian gospel singer, Obaapa Christy, has made it clear that her performances come at a price, regardless of who makes the request. Whether a friend or an acquaintance, she insists on being paid for her work.

During a discussion on UTV’s cooking show, Obaapa Christy disclosed that her stance is a result of hard-earned experience and the realities of sustaining her career. She views her ministry and music not just as a calling, but a professional pursuit that demands fair compensation.

“I will actually stand and take my money before I leave. Even if I know the person, I will still take it. That’s because I’ve learnt my lessons on certain things. The most important thing is me delivering exactly what I’m expected to do,” she stated.

The award-winning singer highlighted that despite expectations for her to minister freely, people often overlook the financial burden she carries to make each performance possible.

“That’s my job and that’s what God has blessed me with, so if I don’t charge, how then will I feed? When someone has a problem and they seek help from me, it’s the same money that I would use to assist the person,” Christy averred.

Addressing critics who view charging fees as unspiritual, Obaapa Christy said her rate reflects the standard she has built over the years. “I won’t be on TV and say I don’t charge; I do. When someone charges less for an event, it doesn’t mean I should also take less amount of money. There are levels to everything, and in this job we do, I’ve been able to build my brand so I’m different from others who charge less,” she explained.

Her performance fees, she added, go toward essential costs like transportation and logistics.

“When people book me, I will definitely buy fuel before getting to the location, so I’m supposed to get paid so that I can fund those petty things. From the beginning of my journey, I’ve always been very particular about the money,” Obaapa Christy said.
