Castro’s mother passes away

Lydia Naa Deide Tagoe, the beloved mother of late Ghanaian hiplife musician Castro Under Fire, has sadly passed away.

The heartbreaking news was shared by her son and Castro’s brother, McBaby Nana Kwame Martin, in a Facebook post.

The cause of her death remains unknown at this time.

In his emotional tribute, McBaby expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing his mother as his “best friend” and “angel on earth.”

“I am broken and short of words, but God knows best. I lost my best friend and my angel on earth this morning. Rest on, Mommy, forever in my heart… Wherever you are, may God keep you safe,” he wrote.

He added, “Life hasn’t been fair to me, but in all things, I give thanks and praises to my Most High God. Rest on, Mommy, Lydia Naa Deide Tagoe.”

The post was accompanied by a heartfelt photo of McBaby with his late mother, which quickly drew emotional reactions from fans and friends, many of whom expressed their condolences and support for the grieving family.

Veteran Ghanaian rapper Tinny has opened up about his lifelong passion for entertainment, revealing that his love for the stage began long before fame found him.

Speaking in an interview with Doreen Avio and Kwame Dadzie on Hitz FM, as monitored by MyNewsGh, Tinny recounted how his artistic journey started in his early school days, where he eagerly participated in various creative activities.

“I was an entertainer when I was coming up as a little boy,” he shared. “In my school time days, if I didn’t play drums, I’d be part of those doing play-acting. And if not, then I’d be performing music.”

According to Tinny, entertainment was not just an interest but a calling that shaped his destiny.

“I realized that the path I’d chosen was the right way. So, I say big ups to God for giving me this great talent, putting me on the map,” he said gratefully.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings Is Reported Dead

Ghana’s former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, has passed on.

She reportedly died on Thursday, October 23, at Ridge Hospital in Accra, according to family sources.

Despite multiple reports about her death, an official statement is yet to be released.

Nana Konadu was the wife of Ghana’s late former President, Jerry John Rawlings, who died on November 20, 2020.

Born on November 17, 1948, in Cape Coast in the Central Region, Nana Konadu was a trailblazing stateswoman, gender equality advocate, and influential political leader who left a profound mark on Ghana’s national life.

She was admired for her courage and commitment to women’s empowerment and social progress. She founded the National Democratic Party (NDP) after parting ways with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), the party she once helped to build.

Her recent public appearances included attending a state ceremony at the Jubilee House, where she joined other dignitaries in laying wreaths to honour eight public servants who died in a tragic helicopter crash.

The former First Lady was also seen at the Dote Yie funeral rites for the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, where she was accompanied by two of her children, Amina and Kimathi Agyeman-Rawlings. Together, they offered condolences to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, during the solemn occasion.

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has disclosed what he believes draws corporate brands toward artistes, following the overwhelming success of ShattaFest 2025.

According to the Shatta Movement boss, discipline, relentless hard work, and consistency are the real ingredients that make any artiste appealing to major sponsors.

Speaking to journalists during a media interaction at MTN MobileMoney Ltd (MoMo Ghana) on Monday, October 20, 2025, Shatta Wale expressed gratitude to the telecom brand for supporting his flagship concert. The visit formed part of his post-event appreciation tour after ShattaFest 2025 lit up Independence Square on Saturday, October 18.

“Discipline, hard work and how we push the agenda of everything we do. To have a brand like Momo Ghana partner my ShattaFest shows that the corporate world is watching and always ready to support people like us,” he said.

The event, which was held as part of his 40th birthday celebration, attracted thousands of fans who flooded Independence Square to honour one of Ghana’s biggest entertainers.

Talking about his partnership with MTN MoMo, he described it as a “dream come true”. Wale also said he intends to make ShattaFest a yearly event that travels across regions and eventually beyond Ghana.

“We’re all shocked, even I’m shocked about the numbers,” he admitted. “I believe everybody should be happy now with the turnout we had.”

He added, “I believe with a few more collaborations with MTN MoMo and other affiliations, we’ll have it every year.”

MTN MoMo CEO Shaibu Haruna, who also addressed the gathering, said he was surprised by the magnitude of Shatta Wale’s following.

“I had no clue the kind of following you have. I obviously knew you had a powerful following, but this weekend was extra special,” Haruna stated.

Hiplife Is Dead, But Ghana’s Music Is Thriving – Tinny

Tinny has declared that Hiplife, the genre that once dominated Ghana’s urban music scene, is now “dead.”

The rapper, known in private life as Nii Addo Quaynor, made this remark during an interview with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio on Daybreak Hitz.

Tinny reflected on the transformation of Ghana’s music industry since his rise to fame in the early 2000s. He commended the new generation of artistes for their creativity and versatility, describing the current music scene as vibrant and full of promise.

“It’s growing and it’s wonderful to me. These young artistes coming up, I see great talents. Before they used to sound like themselves, but now I hear different talents,” he said.

Tinny stated that Ghana’s music industry is thriving and gaining recognition globally, but the essence of Hiplife has faded over time.

“To my knowledge when you talk music in Ghana, Ghana is on fire. Our population and what we do, to me, they don’t tally,” he added.

Tinny, however, lamented the disappearance of Hiplife from the mainstream scene, noting that it has lost its place among emerging artistes.

“The only thing is these days is that, hiplife is dead. I don’t see any upcoming artiste being asked what they do and they say they do hiplife music,” he concluded.

Veteran Ghanaian gospel singer, Agnes Opoku Agyemang, has advised men to choose only one wife for a peaceful life.

During an interview with ZionFelix, the “Aseda” singer was asked whether men should marry one woman or more. She responded that, in today’s world, peace of mind comes from committing to one partner.

She noted that her advice might have been different in the past when polygamy was more common, especially because of traditional lifestyles.
