Why Dentaa Is Urging More Ghanaians To Join The Grammy Recording Academy

0

Lady Dentaa Amoateng, consultant to Grammy Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr., has urged more Ghanaians to join the Academy to boost the nation’s chances of winning at the world’s most prestigious music awards.

In a recent interview on Daybreak Hitz with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio, Dentaa explained that Ghana’s presence at the Grammys would remain minimal unless more industry professionals became members of the Recording Academy.

“The process of the Grammy Awards is that you have to be a member of the Recording Academy to vote. It is not voted by Harvey Mason Jnr. It is voted by producers, musicians; people in that industry. So you have to be part of that. And it is in America. So people that are voting, they don’t know your music. So more of us [Ghanaians] have to join the membership to be able to vote,” she said.

Dentaa emphasized that joining the Academy is simple and accessible through its website. “It’s easy. It’s on the website. It’s a very easy process. You actually need two references, someone to verify that you are who you are: one that is already a member of the Academy and one that is not, so they can recommend that you are a producer, you are a musician,” she explained.

Addressing concerns about non-Africans being considered in the African Music Performance category, she said increasing African participation within the Academy is key.

“That is why we need Africans to be able to vote. If you are on the Board, you have voting rights. There are meetings that they go through the process, so if there are more of us on that platform, then you won’t get non-Africans infusing in that category too much. So I think it is really important,” she noted.

Dentaa said she plans to lead a campaign encouraging Ghanaian creatives to join the Recording Academy, which currently boasts over 16,000 members, including more than 13,000 voting members.

The announcement was made during an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, where the “Adult Music” hitmaker disclosed that the project is part of activities marking the 20th anniversary of his debut album, Asor.

According to Kwabena Kwabena, the Asor Remix is just the beginning of a series of remakes and collaborations he intends to release in celebration of his two-decade-long music journey. He hinted that other prominent artistes will be featured in upcoming remixes.

“This is only the first of many,” he shared. “We are doing this not because we want to trend, but because we want to recreate timeless music that people can connect with for years to come.”

Kwabena Kwabena first hinted at his anniversary plans in an earlier July interview on the same show, explaining that his focus is on creating evergreen music rather than chasing viral trends.

“It’s not the type of song you just want to trend,” he said. “It is that song that you want, that evergreen thing back again. You want longevity, so it needs to be people who understand music, like Okyeame Kwame. It has to be there.”

The upcoming remix, which unites three of Ghana’s most respected musicians, is highly anticipated by fans and is expected to revive nostalgia while introducing a fresh sound to a new generation of music lovers.

Stacy revealed that Daddy Lumba went beyond offering help, he furnished her entire home, providing everything she needed, including basic items like cutlery.

She added that at the time, Lumba often imported goods from Germany and kept a storeroom full of supplies, which he used to set up her living space. On top of that, he gave her GH¢2,500, an amount that was considered significant in those days.

“I don’t know anyone who gives like Daddy Lumba. When he decides to be generous, you’ll start wondering if he’s alright, he gives crazily when he wants to. And with him, you don’t coerce or ask; if he wants to do it, he will. He furnished every part of my house.

“I remember he once teased me that I didn’t even have furniture or a bed. It seemed like a joke, but he went ahead and gave me everything I needed, right down to cutlery. Back then, he used to import a lot from Germany and had plenty stored up. When he was done, he even gave me GH¢2,500,” Stacy disclosed.

Abochi Finally Reveals What Inspired His ‘Bestie’ Song

0

Ghanaian singer and songwriter Bismark Enyan, well-known as Abochi, has opened up about the real-life experience that inspired his chart-topping single ‘Bestie’.

Speaking on UTV’s U Cook with Empress Gifty, Abochi revealed that the song stemmed from his emotional connection with a close female friend he secretly fell in love with.

“I had a close female friend who I used to talk to almost all the time. As you’re close to the opposite sex, you tend to develop feelings because you get used to each other. But then, I didn’t know how to tell her, so I decided to put it into music,” he said.

He explained that fear of rejection and the possibility of losing the friendship pushed him to express his emotions through music instead of words.

“With this kind of friendship, sometimes when you profess your love to her and she doesn’t feel the same way, it will jeopardize the friendship, which was my fear. I felt it would be better to write a song about us, but I didn’t expect it to go viral that fast,” he recounted.

The success of Bestie eventually led to a personal moment of truth. Abochi revealed that his friend confronted him after hearing the song, leading to a short-lived romance between them.

“She listened to the song and confronted me. She asked me if she was the reason for dropping the song, and at that point, I had no choice but to confess that I had feelings for her. She was actually blushing, and we dated for some time. After a while, I realized we were better as friends,” he shared.

However, their efforts to rekindle their friendship after the breakup didn’t go as planned.

“Things that we would have tolerated in friendship, we couldn’t tolerate anymore. Everything changed, and we quarreled a lot. So we both agreed to quit and go back to being friends, but unfortunately, the friendship didn’t work either, so we had to go our separate ways,” Abochi added.

Stephen Appiah’s Mean Words Hurt Me To The Core – Grace Ashley reveals

0

Renowned Ghanaian gospel musician and celebrated composer of several Black Stars anthems, Grace Ashley, has opened up about a deeply hurtful experience that made her stop composing songs for Ghana’s national football teams.

In an exclusive interview with ZionFelix, Grace Ashley recounted how a remark from former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah shattered her passion and motivation to create music for the national team.

According to the “Black Stars Songs” hitmaker, Stephen Appiah, bluntly told her to stop composing songs for the team if she wasn’t being paid for her work.

Grace Ashley described the comment as extremely painful and discouraging, saying it completely killed her spirit.

“Stephen Appiah told me point-blank that if I wasn’t getting paid for the songs, I should stop composing them. Those words hurt me so much, and that’s the reason I decided not to do any more songs for the Black Stars,” she revealed.

The gospel star, who became a household name for her motivational and patriotic tunes that rallied support for Ghana during major tournaments, said she had always created the songs out of love for the country, not financial gain.

However, the lack of appreciation — and Appiah’s remark — left her feeling undervalued and unappreciated.
