For Ghanaian rapper Kwesi Arthur, fame has come with a trade-off. The recognition that built his career has also made his ordinary life far more complicated whenever he is back home in Ghana.
In a conversation with Kafui Dey, the rapper said living abroad now offers him a kind of peace and anonymity he no longer enjoys locally. According to him, everyday activities outside Ghana feel far less overwhelming because he can move around without constant public attention.
“When I’m out of Ghana where I live, it’s more calm. I can go to a grocery store, do normal things like every other person,” he told Kafui Dey in an interview.
Kwesi Arthur explained that even the simplest tasks in Ghana can quickly become difficult once fans spot him in public. What should take only a few minutes often turns into an extended stop for photographs and interactions.

“Anywhere I go, people pull out cameras. I went to print a document for an appointment and I was late because people kept asking for pictures,” he recalled.
The rapper said adjusting to that level of attention was not easy at first, but experience has taught him how to better manage his surroundings and mentally prepare for public outings.
“I have more control over my environment now. It’s about communication and understanding where you are going,” he said.
Despite embracing the success that comes with celebrity status, Kwesi Arthur admitted there are moments from his earlier life he still longs for, especially the freedom to spend quiet time with friends without attracting crowds.
“I miss when I could go to the beach with my boys and just chill. But it’s a gift and a curse,” he added.
