Gyakie Says Stage Feels Like A “Courtroom” Under Online Troll Pressure

0

Ghanaian singer Gyakie has talked about the pressures of performing live. She revealed that what once felt like pure joy on stage now often feels more like standing trial before an unforgiving audience of online critics.

In a recent interview, Gyakie explained that while music-making remains her passion, the growing culture of trolling has turned live shows into high-pressure spaces where artistes must constantly guard against ridicule.

“I mostly enjoy making music in the studio, but I also enjoy stage performances. My only problem with the stage is that with how everyone comes online to troll artistes, it’s made the stage feel like a courtroom. One has to be extra mindful of their conduct, because some troll is probably making a creepy video of you to use against you online. If I take that out, it’s always fun for me to be on stage,” she told Nigerian’s The Guardian.

She likened the stage to a “courtroom,” stressing that every misstep could be twisted online to embarrass or discredit performers. Still, she emphasized that performing live remains one of her greatest thrills whenever the negativity is pushed aside.

Gyakie further reflected on one of her most memorable career highlights, a December 2024 concert in Sierra Leone. She described the experience as unexpectedly emotional, moved by the way the audience embraced her music.

“I went to perform in Sierra Leone last December, and the reception was so amazing. I didn’t expect that they would sing most of my catalogue word for word. Every single day was full of genuine love,” she recalled.

Ebi Bright Opens Up About Why She Keeps Her Marriage And Family Out Of The Public Eye

Ghanaian actress, Ebi Bright, who is now a politician, has opened up on why she keeps her marriage and children away from the public spotlight, stressing that the decision was a deliberate choice to protect her family.

She disclosed her decision at the Youth Development Summit organized by the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) in Tema, under the theme “Building Tomorrow’s Leaders Today through Education, Entrepreneurship and Work.” She encouraged young women to be intentional about the lives they want to build.

According to her, every woman must decide early in life whether to prioritize family, intellectual pursuits, or social popularity. She urged the audience to reflect on their ambitions and the sacrifices needed to achieve them.

“Each one of us knows who we are, before we get to where everybody else knows us. You have to decide early on, are you a slay queen? Or you’re going to be leading the space with your mind and with thoughts. Do you want a family and do you want to be a responsible homemaker? Or do you just want to be out there? What price is too big for what you want?” she queried.

Ebi Bright noted that for her, marriage and family came first. Because of that, she chose to shield them from the pressures of public attention, acknowledging she did not have the strength to expose them to scrutiny.

She added that this decision shaped her lifestyle and how she navigated public life. Unlike many who frequently post on social media, she preferred to keep her private world out of the public eye.

“For me, I stepped into the political space. But even as an actress, the character was constant. I always knew at every step of the way, what I was willing to pay for where I wanted to get to. So, I determined that my marriage and my family, my children, was paramount.

And that I did not have what it took to protect my family, if I thrust them into the public space. So, I kept my marriage private.

“I kept my children private. I was not all-over social media and immediately I changed my polish, I snapped a picture and I post. I didn’t do all of those things. It allowed me the space to grow. It allowed me the space to protect myself and my family from some of those fears. It protected me from some of the advances that might have been more offensive. So, I wasn’t all over the place because I knew who I was,” Ebi Bright averred.

“If they dare me, I’ll buy another Lamborghini next two months” – Shatta Wale

0

Controversial Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale, born Charles Nii Armah Mensah, has made a defiant statement just days after his release from detention by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

During a performance of his song “Rising Youth” at the Osu Homowo Festival, the self-proclaimed “African Dancehall King” declared that if he is “dared,” he will buy another Lamborghini within the next two months.

Shatta Wale’s bold pronouncement comes on the heels of a week of legal troubles.

He was detained by EOCO last Wednesday as part of an ongoing investigation into the ownership of his distinctive yellow Lamborghini Urus.

According to a statement released by EOCO on Thursday, August 1st, Shatta Wale, during his interrogation, claimed to have purchased the luxury vehicle “on the streets,” a statement that has raised eyebrows among investigators and the public alike.

The vehicle has been confiscated by the anti-graft agency as part of their probe, which reportedly involves US officials.

The interrogation led to his detention on Wednesday, but the musician was later granted bail. The initial bail amount was set at a staggering GH¢10 million, but it was subsequently reduced to GH¢5 million with two sureties whose properties must be verified.

Shatta Wale’s performance at the Homowo Festival was his first major public appearance since his release, and he wasted no time in addressing his recent ordeal.

His defiant message seems to be a direct response to the confiscation of his car and the legal challenges he is currently facing.

The statement has since gone viral, with many fans and critics debating whether it is a sign of his unyielding spirit or a provocation of the authorities.

Yaw Dabo Fumes & Criticizes WAEC’s “Rambo-Style” Invigilation

0

Popular Ghanaian actor and sports enthusiast, Samuel Yaw Dabo, has voiced strong concerns over the West African Examinations Council’s (WAEC) approach to invigilation during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Dabo’s comments come in the wake of a viral incident involving a WAEC official and an invigilator found with leaked exam questions.

The incident, as reported by Joy News, took place at the Armed Forces Secondary School in Burma Camp, where a WAEC inspection team encountered a suspicious invigilator.

His unusual dressing raised red flags, leading to the discovery of leaked questions for Picture Making and Oral English on his phone.

WAEC has since confiscated the device and initiated an investigation.

However, a video of the routine inspection shows WAEC’s Head of Public Relations, John Kapi, walking through the exam hall and at one point, interrupting a student to inspect his paper.

It is this type of action that has drawn the ire of Yaw Dabo.

In a new video, the actor can be seen lamenting that WAEC’s “Rambo-style” invigilation tactics, which he believes include the deployment of military officers to act as invigilators, are causing unnecessary fear and panic among the students.

Dabo argued that these methods could negatively impact the students’ concentration and performance.

Dabo’s criticism highlights a growing debate about the balance between ensuring exam integrity and creating a conducive, stress-free environment for students.

While WAEC maintains that its strict measures are necessary to curb widespread malpractice, the actor and many others believe these actions may be doing more harm than good, intimidating students who are already under immense pressure.

Kofi Kinaata has disclosed the emotional weight he carries after surviving what could have been his own tragedy. The musician revealed that he had twice boarded the same helicopter that later crashed on August 6, 2025, killing eight prominent Ghanaian officials.

The accident, he said, has haunted him ever since, leaving him deeply unsettled about how fragile life can be.

In reflecting on the crash and other recent sorrows, the death of 16 schoolchildren in a road accident and the passing of Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, Kinaata admitted these losses have taken a heavy toll on his spirit.

He confessed that knowing he could have easily been one of the victims of the helicopter disaster fills him with constant unease. Even his music, once his refuge, now reflects the grief he is struggling to release.

Sharing his feelings in an X post, he wrote: “From the loss of 16 kids, to the passing of our legendary musicians, and now the helicopter tragedy, it’s been weighing heavily on my soul. What makes it even harder is knowing I’ve been on that same flight twice this year. That thought just won’t leave me. Moments like these really make you question life… what’s the point, when it can all end in an instant? I’ve tried to shake it off with music, but every song I write somehow turns into a sad one.”

His openness drew a response from rapper Sarkodie, who offered empathy and encouragement. Sarkodie urged him not to suppress his grief but to use music as a vessel for it, reminding him that his songs could become a source of healing for others.

“It’s a very dark time and I can relate a hundred percent… as a true artist, you can only channel what you feel so don’t fight it just pour out what you are feeling inside… you don’t know who might need it. Drop the music,” Sarkodie wrote.
