Ola Michael Slams Empress Gifty Over Poor Moderation On United Showbiz

0

Ola Michael has called out gospel singer and TV host Empress Gifty for what he described as poor moderating skills during a recent episode of United Showbiz, aired on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

The heated criticism follows a controversial segment on the show where pundits, including artiste manager Bullgod and MC Yaa Yeboah, made disparaging remarks about rapper King Paluta.

Bullgod boldly labeled the Aseda hitmaker as “a fool” in response to a viral video of the rapper insulting a fan during his performance in London.

Ola Michael, who was visibly unimpressed, openly confronted Empress Gifty on the show, questioning her silence during the moment Bullgod made the offensive comment.

He insisted that as the host, Empress Gifty should have stepped in to caution Bullgod or urge him to retract the statement.

“Why didn’t you ask Bullgod to take back such a harsh comment about King Paluta on live television?” Ola asked. “That was unprofessional, and it reflects poorly on your role as the host.”

Ola also took a deep swipe at MC Yaa Yeboah’s remarks, stating that her contribution further dented the rapper’s reputation.

Agradaa Seeks Bail Pending Appeal Of 15-Year Prison Sentence

0

Lawyers for Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, widely known as Nana Agradaa, have reportedly taken legal steps to secure her release on bail as she challenges her 15-year prison sentence.

The founder of Heaven Way Champion International Ministry was convicted on July 3, 2025, and handed a 15-year sentence with hard labour for defrauding members of the public. She was also fined 25 penalty units, or risked 30 days in jail, in a separate charge of charlatanic advertisement. The two fraud-related sentences were to run concurrently, according to a ruling delivered by Her Honour Evelyn Asamoah at the Circuit Court.

Following the judgment, Nana Agradaa’s legal team, led by Richard Asare Baffour, swiftly filed a petition to appeal both the conviction and the sentence. However, with no date yet scheduled for the appeal hearing, they submitted a formal application for bail pending appeal on July 9, 2025.

In their motion, the lawyers argued that the appeal stands on solid ground. “The applicant is confident that the appeal has a strong chance of success due to the flaws that characterized the trial and the bias exhibited by the trial judge,” they stated.

Further supporting the motion, her legal team assured the court that Nana Agradaa would fully comply with all bail conditions, including regular court appearances and a pledge not to interfere with the legal process.

“She would make herself available in court as required, undertake not to interfere with or contravene the terms of the bail bond in any way,” the lawyers noted, adding that the sureties were prepared to provide adequate security.

Nana Agradaa, through her petition, maintains that the legal process that led to her conviction was fundamentally flawed.

“The applicant contends that the trial was unfairly conducted, as the burden of proof was improperly shifted to her to prove her innocence, rather than requiring the prosecution to prove her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt,” she claimed.

Let’s Support Them – Socrate Safo Pledges Support For NDC Creatives Despite NPP Loyalty

0

Despite his firm allegiance to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), veteran filmmaker Socrate Safo says he’s willing to offer support to creatives currently serving under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

He stressed his belief that national progress in the arts should transcend partisan lines during an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z.

Safo emphasized that political affiliation should not deter collaboration in developing Ghana’s creative sector.

“I am happy for the creatives in the NDC. Let’s support them. I support them,” he said. “I called Rex Omar and asked why he didn’t invite me to the launch of the Blackstar Experience. Because I want to help in any way, with ideas.”

The popular filmmaker also revealed he had reached out to the National Film Authority’s Executive Director, Kafui Danku, to express his willingness to assist her initiatives in the creative space.

When asked whether his visible admiration for the NDC’s arts agenda suggested a possible shift in party loyalty, Safo was emphatic. “I am NPP,” he responded.

Widely recognized as a trailblazer in Ghanaian cinema, Safo, born John Koranteng Safo, has shaped the country’s movie landscape for nearly 40 years. Known for bold and controversial titles like Hot Fork, Sin of the Soul, Church Money, and Love and Politics, his work has consistently sparked debate and driven conversations about cultural values and representation.

His influence, however, extends far beyond the director’s chair. As former Director for Creative Arts at the National Commission on Culture under the Akufo-Addo-led government, Socrate Safo played a pivotal role in policy development. He championed local content creation, spearheaded structural reforms, and was instrumental in the advocacy that led to the Creative Arts Bill, legislation designed to formalize and boost Ghana’s creative economy.
