The True Test Is Live – Epixode Champions Performance Over Popularity

0

Ghanaian Dancehall artiste Epixode is drawing a firm line between true artistry and mere studio prowess. He argued that live performance is the ultimate benchmark of an artist’s craft.

In a conversation with Graphic Showbiz, the ‘Wahala Dey’ composer emphasized that a musician’s staying power in the industry depends largely on their ability to command a live audience.

“I think it’s essential for every artiste and their team to invest in developing that side of the craft. An artiste’s longevity often depends on their ability to engage and entertain live audiences,” he stated.

Epixode noted that while digital production has created new stars, it has also left many young acts underprepared for the raw demands of the stage. He attributed his own confidence in live settings to his roots in traditional live music.

“Many artistes struggle with this because live performances weren’t common during our formative years. Luckily, I come from a background where live music was integral, and I see the importance of honing this skill,” he said.

He acknowledged that artists possess different creative strengths; some excel in recording studios, and others in songwriting, but he believes being a standout stage performer is a powerful asset.

“Every artiste has their strengths. Some might be great in the booth, while others thrive in writing or performing. It’s a blessing to be acknowledged among the best performers in Ghana,” Epixode added.

Shifting the conversation from performance to purpose, the Dancehall artist reflected on his recent win at the Ghana Music Awards. Taking home the Music for Good Award, he said, affirmed his commitment to socially conscious music.

“Winning the Music for Good Award is huge for me as a growing artiste. While many songs are crafted for dancing and enjoyment, I believe music should also serve deeper purposes—healing and conveying essential messages. I’m proud to use my lyrics and melodies to highlight pressing societal issues,” he commented.

Epixode, born Theophilus Nii Arday Otoo, also discussed his newest single, Millions, which he described as a motivational anthem that transcends money talk.

“Millions is a Dancehall anthem about the pursuit of big dreams—similar to the common saying, ‘I want money; I want to be big.’ For me, ‘I want millions’ signifies more than just monetary wealth; it represents success in all aspects of life. The line ‘we pray for millions’ embodies these ambitions,” he detailed.

Medikal Hits Back At MC Yaa Yeboah Over S3xual Harassment Comment

Ghanaian rapper Medikal, born Samuel Adu Frimpong, has lashed out at entertainment pundit MC Yaa Yeboah following her public condemnation of his on-stage interaction with a female fan during the Evandy Hall Week celebration.

A now-viral video captured Medikal embracing a young woman on stage and allegedly touching her buttocks, prompting widespread criticism from social media users who labeled the act as inappropriate and intentional.

Joining the growing chorus of disapproval, MC Yaa Yeboah expressed strong views on the incident, calling for accountability and legal consequences.

“If you see a lady dressed in a manner where part of her body is exposing, it doesn’t give you any right to touch her unless she has given you the chance. You pressed her buttocks,” she said during a broadcast.

She further argued that in a more stringent legal environment, the rapper could have faced immediate arrest and reputational damage.

Medikal, clearly incensed by the remarks, fired back in a video posted to his social media channels. In his rebuttal, the rapper dismissed MC Yaa Yeboah’s criticism and launched a verbal tirade in response.

“You are a very stupid woman. I respect women a lot but the fact that she has the guts to say I am a fool means she doesn’t have sense,” he said.

“You should be disappointed in yourself because you don’t know what you are saying. You are talking about the issue because everyone is speaking about it,” Medikal added.

Years after their online banter made headlines, rapper Amerado has finally shed light on the root of his fallout with fellow artiste Kofi Mole.

In a recent interview with ZionFelix, the “Kwaku Ananse” hitmaker revealed that the beef stemmed from Mole’s unexpected absence from a planned video shoot, despite initially agreeing to participate.

According to Amerado, he had written Mole’s verse and only needed him to show up and perform it. When Mole failed to appear, Amerado was forced to take on a double role in the video, which he said added significant stress to the project.

What truly sparked the conflict, however, was Mole’s decision to insult him on Twitter, now X, following the incident. That public slight, Amerado said, was the final straw.

Half-joking, he added that he would have confronted Mole if he had caught him at the time, bragging that the entire Lakeside area “belongs to my grandparent.”

Still, Amerado emphasized that there’s no lingering bad blood. “It was all fun,” he said, adding that he’s genuinely happy to see Kofi Mole back in the spotlight with a trending song.
