I’m now a truck driver in the US – Pope Skinny

0

Rapper, Pope Skinny has found a new job after his musical career took a nose dive and his career as a radio presenter also ended in tears.

Pope Skinny born Edwin Kwame Ohene Darko who has relocated to the United States, has disclosed that he is now a truck driver a job he wouldn’t have done if he was in Ghana.

According to the musician in an interview, the lack of money in the Ghanaian entertainment industry attributed to him and other musicians leaving the country.

He said that the system in the creative art industry makes it difficult for celebrities to get certain benefits like SSNIT to help them even when they retire.

“We are musicians. We don’t even have SSNIT in our line of work. It is not an issue with just musicians. You will see people on TV donate money to most celebrities when they visit them. It’s not because the person was irresponsible. We do not have a future plan for musicians here. If you look at all these things and you don’t want to ruin your future, you would have to go somewhere else to pay your SSNIT and benefit from it,” he said.

Pope Skinny stated that the mechanisms function elsewhere, making it enticing for musicians to relocate and seek a better living.

The rapper mentioned that many musicians struggle to make money without recording hit songs and rely on their savings to fund their creative ventures.

The rapper also said that he works as a truck driver in the United States, which he was unable to do in Ghana.

“I drive a big truck in America. I cannot do it in Ghana because I will be mocked,” he said.

Ghanaian politician and activist, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, is unwilling to honour an invitation by Atinka FM.

A Plus, an independent Member of Parliament hopeful at the Gomoa Central and other parliamentary at the constituency were to engage in a debate on Thursday, October 10, 2024.

He would have debated with NDC’s Kwame Yawson and the incumbent MP from the NPP, Naana Eyiah Quansah.

He wrote: “Dear Atinka FM, Thank you for the invitation. I want to be clear: your debate will not impact my campaign and won’t provide any benefit to me. In fact, Kwame A Plus has a larger following than Atinka FM! You need me, I dont! It’s important to recognize that my appearance would primarily attract sponsors and generate revenue for you, so please, pay me.

On the same date and time, I have committed to partnering with the @becksglaucomafoundationghana to celebrate World Glaucoma Day in Gomoa Ekwamkrom. I will be conducting eye screenings to address various conditions, particularly glaucoma, and providing free medications to those in need. I also want to mention that your station is owned by Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited. Previously, when I requested medications for a free health screening in my constituency, you asked for payment. After I complied, you sent me viagra and Mr Q. 🙄

I would consider participating in your program only if you agree to supply free medications for the poor inmates at Osamkrom Prison Camp, whose clinic is in urgent need of supplies. Those individuals featured on your flyer were relatively unknown until I entered the race. But for me, who knew about Kwame Dean or Naana Eyiah? 🤷‍♂️🙄 My involvement has brought them attention, which they have not paid me for. I will not continue to give them free exposure without receiving something of significant value in return. Please let me know if you are willing to provide medications to the Gomoa Osamkrom Prison Camp. If not, I must respectfully decline.”
