The arrest of some protestors in Ghana has ignited an online campaign #Freethecitizens, with most Ghanaian celebrities joining and sharing their views.

A section of the protestors who participated in the Democracy Hub organized demonstration were apprehended by the Ghana police following a scuffle.

About 39 of them were remanded for two weeks on Tuesday following a court appearance. A new report indicates that a different set of protestors who were arrested have been arraigned in a court in Accra on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.

Though they have not pleaded guilty yet, they are facing charges such as conspiracy to commit a crime, unlawful assembly, causing unlawful damage and offensive damage.

Sharing her view in an X post sighted by Zionfelix.net, Ghanaian actress Lydia Forson told President Akufo-Addo that this cannot be his legacy.

She reminded him about the time he led others by demonstrating.

Lydia Forson wrote: “Dear @NAkufoAddo This cannot be your legacy! You spent years as a human rights activist with placards on the streets! What happened?  What happened to the man from “ku me preko”?  Your “Fellow Ghanaians” are following your charge to be citizens not spectators.”

The protestors were expressing concerns about the negative effect of illegal mining (galamsey) in the country.

Efia Odo has added her voice to the ongoing #Freethecitizens campaign on social media.

In a heartfelt post on X formerly Twitter, Efia Odo lamented that the ruling NPP has no regard for the rule of law.

According to her, she strongly believes Ghana is in a huge pit and it would take a miracle for us to get out of it.

As stated by Efia Odo, even if the NDC comes into power after the next general elections, John Mahama wouldn’t be able to solve our problems within just 4 years.

She continued that Ghana used to be a beautiful country until Nana Addo assumed the office of the president.

Yesterday, thirty-nine people who were part of the weekend’s street protest and were arrested by the police for unlawful acts have been remanded into custody by the Accra Circuit Court.

They were part of the three-day street protest organized by the pressure group, Democracy Hub.

The protest, which voiced concerns over illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) and economic mismanagement, has led to charges of unlawful assembly and other offenses against the demonstrators.

‘I’m left with only three toes on my right foot’ – Sonnie Badu shares details of domestic accident

0

Ghanaian gospel musician and preacher, Sonnie Badu has opened up on the injuries he sustained after a domestic accident in December 2023.

Speaking on the Onua Showtime over the weekend, Sonnie Badu disclosed that he has currently lost two of his toes on the right foot as a result of the accident last year.

“I went through depression for six months, I’m left with only three toes,” he said.

“On that day I was cleaning up and I slipped on the staircase, my rail is a metal. I was supposed to hit my head on the ground but I went on the floor with my shoulder to protect myself. So, I landed on my shoulder and my leg went through the metal sharp rail and my toes were slitted.

“I was bleeding everywhere. We drove to the hospital and I walked to the emergency. When the doctors checked, they asked where are my toes and I asked which toes before I realise my toes had been slitted.

So, I asked my team members to go check with a torchlight and they saw the toes on the floor, picked it up and placed in an iced box and brought it to the hospital. The doctors checked and refused it,” – He narrated.

Host of Onua Showtime, Nana Ama affirmed the incident after the musician showed images to her on the show.

The singer underwent a surgery after he stumbled on the steps between the garden and the metal railings in his home while cleaning and watering in December last year.

Despite his condition, Sonnie Badu, who hadn’t fully recovered, was later seen performing at his Rhythms of Africa concert in Accra on December 9, 2023.

This caused people to claim on social media that his injury was not severe and only staged to gain attention for his Rhythms of Africa concert.

However, Sonnie Badu dismissed such claims on Onua Showtime with Nana Ama McBrown over the weekend.

Afia Pokuaa speaks for the first time as Manhyia Palace rejects her apology

0

Afia Pokuaa has publicly reacted for the first time after Manhyia Palace rejected her apology yesterday despite hours of pleading

Two days ago, Afia Pokuaa together with Mona Gucci, Kumchacha and other Media General executives visited Manhyia Palace to seek forgiveness.

Unfortunately for them, Otumfuo’s representative remained firm in the decision to turn her away, forbidding her from ever returning to the palace.

During the encounter, an elder made an emotional appeal on her behalf, highlighting that Pokua had been on her knees since her arrival and had delivered a heartfelt apology.

Nonetheless, the Otumfuo’s representative was unwavering, explaining that apologies are not always enough in such matters.

He stressed that some offences require the individual to bear the consequences of their actions, and Pokua’s situation was one such case.

“Who do you think you are to disrespect the Otumfuo? If you think you’ve grown wings, don’t aim them at Kumasi. You claim to be from Kwahu, yet even they separated from the Ashanti Kingdom. They speak our language,” he remarked sternly.

It seems Afia Pokuaa has no intentions of going to Manhyia Palace to seek another plea.

In a Facebook post, she thanks God for how far he has brought her. And also pleaded with him to hear her cry and comfort her in these trying times.

’48 hours, no food, no water’ – Ama governor laments in court while in handcuffs

Young Ghanaian Lawyer Ama Governor is speaking out loudly about what she believes is injustice being metered to her and others who were arrested two days ago.

The Ghanaian social media influencer was among 42 demonstrators from the Democracy Hub protest, which the police say it erupted into violent and impactful clashes at the 37 Intersection in Accra on Sunday, 22nd September 2024.

The protestors were picked up whilst protesting illegal mining (Galamsey). Appearing in court today whilst handcuffed, Ama Governor poured out her heart to the press, revealing that she had no food and no water ever since her arrest.

“I want to go so they grant us bail, 48 hours, no food, no water,” she screamed to the press in the video below whilst going through protocols to enter the courtroom. Showing off her hands in handcuffs, she added, “You want us in this? You want to see a 26-year-old lawyer because she said Stop Galamsey. That’s our only crime, Stop Galamsey.”

In a new report, the arrested 42 protestors have been denied bail, with their reappearance slated for 8th October.

In a statement released late Sunday, the police said all 42 arrested individuals, including some of the group’s leaders, will face the law.

The statement, signed by ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs for the Ghana Police Service, noted that the demonstrators were involved in acts of lawlessness, including obstructing traffic, damaging police property, and attacking officers performing their duties.

I Was Buried With My Head Out – Kweku Darlington Reveals After Surviving A Strange Sickness

0

Ghanaian artiste Kweku Darlington has opened up about a strange sickness he battled.

For over a year, Darlington recounted in a recent interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning show that he was fighting for his life—hence his musical hiatus.

Not being able to move and do anything, the ‘Sika Kankan’ singer said he later came to the realization he was spiritually attacked and had to seek intervention.

“It even came off my skin. It was so bad that I couldn’t even go out. I still have some of the marks on my skin. The whole idea was just to keep me inside so I couldn’t come outside because I’m dangerous when I’m outside. In a nutshell, I was buried with only my head out,” he told the host, Roselyn Felli.

He claimed this started after breaking up with some of his friends. Kweku, who was living in Accra moved back to Kumasi for proper healing.

Sadly, doctors and many herbalists were unable to detect what was wrong with him and give him the needed medication. Following this hurdle, they used prayers as the last resort and it helped to unravel the mystery behind his sickness.

“It wasn’t a hospital thing but spiritual because it started with my eye. I went to the clinic, and they did everything they could do but didn’t find the cause. They gave me drugs and injections, spectacles, and other things, but nothing happened. So, it was a congregation that I used to join back at Atwea Mountains; I was there sometimes ago, and they were able to identify what was happening to me. So, after identifying it, we had to clear all of them before I could take drugs,” he disclosed.

Answering whether he offended someone, Darlington said his issue with a friend was a normal argument which he thinks could not have led to that extent.

As he is on his way to fully recover, Kweku Darlington has dropped a new song titled “Grateful to Your Ex,” which tells people to appreciate their previous relationship.
