“It’s my dream to build a theatre” – Empress Gifty reveals

0

Ghanaian gospel musician, Empress Gifty, has said that her dream for the music industry is to build a theatre one day.

Empress Gifty was answering questions on Onua FM’s Mid-morning Show, Adwuma-Adwuma, hosted by Felicia Osei on whether she was aware that the two leading political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had included the growth of the creative arts industry in their manifestos.

She said she hadn’t heard of this but emphasized that it doesn’t concern her as long as her personal needs—such as access to a studio and having her songs recorded and played—are met.

Gifty shared her aspiration to build an ultra-modern theatre once she has the financial means. The gospel musician said she would consider renting it out, using the National Theatre as a reference, or potentially collaborating with an investor.

“My dream is to build a theatre one day if I have the money or an investor,” she explained.

Take your cursed self away – Manhyia rejects Afia Pokuaa’s apology

0

Manhyia Palace has rejected Afia Pokua’s apology after hours of pleading. Despite efforts from a faction of elders supporting her, the Otumfuo’s representative remained firm in the decision to turn her away, forbidding her from ever returning to the palace.

The controversy stems from when Afia Pokua, a journalist with Agoo TV, criticised the Asantehene for his perceived silence regarding ongoing conflicts between the Ashantis and other tribes, including the Bonos.

Her remarks, made during Mona Gucci’s show Bribi Gye Gye Wo on Onua FM, also expressed frustration over what she described as Ashanti superiority over other tribes and the Asantehene’s inaction.

Her comments sparked widespread outrage among the Ashantis, with sub-chiefs, queen mothers, and Ashanti youth publicly denouncing her words. Protests were held, and a press conference was organised by the youth to address the situation.

At Manhyia today, an elder made an emotional appeal on her behalf, highlighting that Pokua had been on her knees since her arrival and had delivered a heartfelt apology.

Nonetheless, the Otumfuo’s representative was unwavering, explaining that in such matters, apologies are not always enough.

He stressed that some offences require the individual to bear the consequences of their actions, and Pokua’s situation was one such case.

“Who do you think you are to disrespect the Otumfuo? If you think you’ve grown wings, don’t aim them at Kumasi. You claim to be from Kwahu, yet even they separated from the Ashanti Kingdom. They speak our language,” he remarked sternly.

“Take your cursed self and your troubles with you. Whatever comes your way in the future, deal with it on your own. Do not ever return here,” he concluded, closing the case.

Following this, Afia Pokua, Mona Gucci, and their delegation left Manhyia Palace.

Gospel star, Brother Sammy defends betting and lotto

Ghanaian gospel musician Brother Sammy has sparked controversy with his bold stance on betting, lotto, and multiple piercings, claiming none are sinful.

Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz last Saturday, the ‘Nation’s Worshipper’ opined that these practices are not sinful, urging Christians to stop using religion to intimidate others over lifestyle choices.

Brother Sammy further emphasized that while many people pray for financial breakthroughs, they often ignore betting as a legitimate way to earn quick income.

He also called out the hypocrisy of some pastors who criticize betting but allow their children to participate in American lotteries.

Though he has never staked lotto himself, the gospel singer said: “I wouldn’t preach against it,” noting that he knows someone who has contributed to building churches from their betting earnings.

The ‘Nyame Nhyira’ hitmaker also criticized the way churches treat individuals with tattoos and piercings, stating that such judgments are unfair.

“Even when boys with tattoos and piercings enter churches, they look at them with judgmental eyes. It’s not fair.

They judge Rastafarians but allow women to wear weaves and synthetic hair,” he remarked, highlighting the inconsistency in how society judges people based on their appearance.

Brother Sammy made it clear that he rejects societal norms that restrict personal freedom and will continue to express his views on wealth creation and personal appearance, staying true to his own beliefs and values.
