Court Throws Out Objection in Abu Trica Extradition Case

0

Frederick Kumi, also known as Abu Trica, has suffered a major setback in his bid to resist extradition after the Gbese District Court dismissed a key legal objection in the case.

The ruling, delivered on Wednesday, removed a significant hurdle in the effort to extradite him to the United States, after the court ruled against arguments raised by his defence team challenging the validity of the request under the Ghana-U.S. agreement.

With the preliminary objection thrown out, proceedings are expected to continue, keeping the extradition process active and moving forward.

U.S. authorities are pursuing Kumi over allegations of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering, accusations tied to a broader international crackdown on financial crimes that cross borders.

From the outset, his legal team, led by Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has mounted strong resistance to the case.

Their defence rested heavily on the Ghana-U.S. Extradition Treaty of 1931.

They argued that the offences listed by the United States, wire fraud and money laundering, do not appear among extraditable crimes set out in the treaty.

They further maintained that Ghana cannot extend the scope of the agreement through newer domestic laws enacted long after the treaty was signed.

According to counsel, the treaty’s provisions on conspiracy charges also do not apply to the allegations facing their client.

The court, however, rejected those submissions.

In its decision, the presiding judge held that the extradition request has a valid legal foundation, allowing the state to proceed with its case against Kumi.

Daddy Lumba’s Celebration Of Life Takes New Twist As Papa Shee Names Focus On Akosua Serwaa

Evangelist Papa Shee, a close friend of Daddy Lumba, has hinted that plans for a proposed “Celebration of Life” could take a different turn, with attention potentially shifting toward the musician’s widow, Akosua Serwaa Fosu.

He made the remarks after court proceedings at the Accra High Court on March 25, 2026, where a legal challenge to the planned event led to further uncertainty over its organisation.

The case, which seeks to stop the Celebration of Life ceremony scheduled for March 28, 2026, has been adjourned to April 23, 2026. The postponement has left the fate of the event unclear, raising doubts about whether it will proceed as originally intended.

Responding to questions on whether the March 28 programme would still go ahead despite the court’s decision, Papa Shee indicated that the family may redirect their focus toward honouring Akosua Serwaa Fosu instead. He explained that celebrations, in his view, are meant for the living.

The controversy comes in the wake of Daddy Lumba’s funeral held on December 13, 2025. After the burial, some members of the immediate family, including his sister Ernestina Fosu and Papa Shee, publicly announced plans for an additional memorial event in his honour.

However, the proposal faced resistance from the family head, Kofi Owusu, who proceeded to file an injunction at the Accra High Court seeking to halt the planned ceremony.

Court Adjourns Ruling On Daddy Lumba’s “Celebration of Life”

The legal dispute over the planned “Celebration of Life” for the late highlife musician Daddy Lumba has been pushed back, with the Accra High Court adjourning the injunction hearing to April 23, 2026.

The matter, which is being heard at the Accra High Court, centres on an application filed by the family head, Kofi Owusu, seeking to stop the event organised in honour of the musician. The court proceedings on March 25, 2026, ended without a final determination, extending the legal uncertainty around the planned commemoration.

Outside the courtroom, the Team Legal Wives’ lawyer addressed journalists and stressed that it remains unclear whether the adjournment will affect the scheduled programme, especially with key dates falling between March 25 and March 26. He said the situation would ultimately depend on developments within that short window.

“Let’s see what happens between today and tomorrow. The law recognizes that people may agree or disagree with a judge. That’s why a single judge sits on High Court cases, three judges at the Court of Appeal, and more than five at the Supreme Court. It means one judge can make a mistake, and if you disagree with a ruling, you have the right to appeal. So everything will depend on what happens today or tomorrow,” he stated.

At the heart of the disagreement is how the planned gathering is being interpreted. The court has reportedly characterised the event as a form of second funeral, while the family maintains a different view, insisting it is meant to honour a legacy rather than conduct burial rites. They argue the intention is to celebrate the life of a husband, brother, and cultural figure, not to repeat funeral proceedings.

The controversy surrounds a “Celebration of Life” ceremony announced by Papa Shee, a close associate of the late musician. The event is slated for March 28 and 29, 2026, and is expected to take place at Independence Square in Accra.

Papa Shee has maintained that the gathering is purely commemorative, designed to reflect on the impact and legacy of Daddy Lumba rather than a traditional funeral.

However, the planned programme has been challenged in court, with the injunction application from Kofi Owusu triggering the ongoing legal standoff that now places the event’s future in uncertainty.

Akosua Serwaa has touched down in Ghana as preparations gather pace for the upcoming celebration of life in honour of the late highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.

Her arrival, captured in a video captured by ZionFelix TV on March 24, 2026, shows the musician’s first surviving spouse stepping into the country through the Accra International Airport to a warm reception. She was welcomed by Papa Shee, Mama China, Ernestina Fosu, and a group of supporters known as Team Legal Wives, all present to receive her as plans for the memorial take shape.

The remembrance events are scheduled for March 28 and 29, a date earlier announced by Akosua Serwaa and Ernestina Fosu, the elder sister of the late singer, as part of efforts to honour his legacy.

Her arrival comes after months of disagreement within the family over whether a second funeral ceremony should be held. The tensions followed the initial burial of Daddy Lumba on December 13, 2025, at the Baba Yara Stadium, after a prolonged dispute involving Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu and Ernestina Fosu.

The legal and family disagreements have since shaped discussions around the planned March observance, even as key figures continue to move forward with arrangements to commemorate the late musician’s life.

Medikal has denied rumours of any feud with Stonebwoy, stressing there is no bad blood between them.

Speaking on Starr Showbiz with Feeling Daddy, the rapper shot down claims of tension between them, making it clear that his relationship with Stonebwoy remains intact despite the speculation.

“We are cool. Yeah, we are cool. I don’t have problems with Stonebwoy at all,” he said.

The ‘Omo Ada’ hitmaker argued that much of the perceived rivalry in the industry is driven by fans, who often amplify situations beyond what actually exists. “Sometimes the fans do that as well. But you see, it’s entertainment.”

Touching on a viral moment involving Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, Medikal said he welcomes any public display of unity between artistes, describing it as a positive sign for the scene. “If they are to meet at an event under the same roof, and then there’s a hug, it’s beautiful. Who doesn’t like to see love?”

He also stressed that artistes are more focused on their personal ambitions than on conflicts, noting that everyone is working toward their own goals. “Stonebwoy has his goals, Shatta has his goals, I have my goals.”

Why Okyeame Kwame Must Be Celebrated @50

0

In the mid-90s, Ghana’s hiplife scene was still taking shape, and one of the pioneering forces was the duo Akyeame, featuring Okyeame Kwame. Together, they introduced a unique blend of rap and traditional Ghanaian rhythms, using the Twi language and cultural themes to define a new sound.

After the group split, Okyeame Kwame successfully transitioned into a solo artiste, releasing notable songs like Woso, Faithful, Small Small, and the widely celebrated Made in Ghana, cementing his place as a purposeful and consistent hitmaker.
Over the years, one might have expected Okyeame Kwame to fade from the music scene, as often happens with artists who break out from groups. However, the opposite has been true. OK remains one of the most consistent and visible figures in Ghana’s music industry to date.

His song Made in Ghana has, over time, become almost synonymous with March (Ghana’s Heritage Month), playing in homes and at national events across the country. Each time it resurfaces, I ask myself: what is it about Okyeame Kwame that keeps him consistently relevant, producing hits for 29 years while continuing to receive endorsement deals? Perhaps that is why Channel One TV is choosing to celebrate him in grand style.
In my exploration, I discovered that the answer lies in the depth and purpose of his music. His lyrics are not just entertaining; they are deeply didactic, often promoting national pride, social responsibility, and development-oriented thinking.

His work reflects a conscious effort to positively influence society and align with broader national goals and policies. It is therefore no surprise that a major television station like Channel One TV has stepped forward to celebrate him as he turns 50 in April with an event titled “OK @50.”

This gesture goes beyond entertainment. It is a recognition of a legacy built on impact, consistency, and cultural significance. Curious about this recognition, I took a step back into history to understand why a television station would celebrate him in such a grand way, and here’s what I found.

Setting the Pace in Educational Development
Okyeame Kwame is one of the first Ghanaian pop musicians to return to university as an established artist, making higher education attractive to musicians like Stonebwoy, Samini, and others. His academic qualifications are remarkable:
 KNUST – Bachelor of Social Sciences, Akan
 UGBS – Master of Arts in Marketing Strategy
 IPLS – Professional Master’s in Alternative Dispute Resolution
 UniMAC – Master of Philosophy in Public Relations
 Currently pursuing a PhD in Development Communication at UniMAC
He is also a co-opted member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK, and serves as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Ghana, Legon, teaching Level 200 voice students in the Department of Music, School of Performing Arts. Additionally, Okyeame Kwame is one of the few Ghanaian artists whose lyrics are studied in university literature courses.
When asked why he places such a premium on education in an interview, OK explained that his dedication stems from a desire to understand the theories behind learning and personal development.

Advocacy in Health and Wellness
OK is one of the first musicians in Ghana to consistently lead health advocacy projects, promoting them annually for over 16 years. Since 2009, the Okyeame Kwame Foundation has screened and vaccinated more than 10,000 Ghanaians.
His hepatitis campaign has contributed to policy development, primary school education, research data collection, and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle for people living with hepatitis.
Currently, in partnership with MDs Lancet Laboratories and the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, Okyeame Kwame is preparing to mark this year’s World Hepatitis Day with screening and vaccination exercises for inmates.

Contribution to Cultural Diplomacy
Okyeame Kwame was the first artiste in Africa to be given the key to the city and have his own day celebrated in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. November 17 is officially celebrated as Okyeame Kwame Day in Cincinnati.

Contribution to Creative Arts
Okyeame Kwame has written and produced two stage plays (The Versatile Show), demonstrating his creativity beyond music. These productions blend drama, music, and cultural storytelling, highlighting his versatility and commitment to using performing arts as a tool for education and entertainment.

Literary Contributions
Okyeame Kwame is arguably the only Ghanaian/African artiste to have developed and launched his own brand book, reflecting a structured and intentional approach to personal branding. Globally, only a handful of artistes, including Taylor Swift, are known for building such clearly defined brand identities.
He is the author of two books under the Love Locked Down series. The first focuses on finding and sustaining meaningful long-term relationships, and the second explores maintaining lasting love. Through these works, he extends his influence into personal development, offering guidance on love, commitment, and emotional intelligence.

Climate Change Advocacy Efforts
Okyeame Kwame is currently the Climate Change Ambassador for the World Bank’s carbon credit sharing program, ENABLE. He has also served as Ghana’s Climate Change Ambassador since 2018, collaborating with the Forestry Commission’s REDD+ project, Solidaridad, and the World Bank-sponsored climate adaptation program, DGM (Dedicated Grant Mechanism).

A Global Development Agent
In 2011, the World Bank recognized Okyeame Kwame for his contributions to development through music. He has represented Ghana as a negotiator at UN annual COP programs.
In 2017, UNICEF appointed him as a UN Goodwill Ambassador for his parenting style, alongside figures like Hugh Jackman and David Beckham. He is widely regarded as the first Ghanaian celebrity family man to make it fashionable to publicly express love for one’s spouse and children, creating a trend in celebrity family lifestyle branding.

Sports Contribution
In 2016, on turning 40, Okyeame Kwame raised funds to support five Ghanaian Paralympic athletes to participate in the Desert Olympics.

Worthy Brands Ambassador
Okyeame Kwame has served as a brand ambassador for major companies including:
 MTN
 GTBank
 Coca-Cola
 Ghacem
 Waylead Properties
He has also launched his own brand of boxer shorts and, since 2021, spearheaded the “Made in Ghana” campaign, focused on:
 Building national pride among the youth
 Promoting Ghanaian businesses
 Encouraging export of Ghanaian artifacts
 Celebrating indigenous traditions and culture
He dedicates his social media platforms entirely to this campaign and has served as ambassador for:
 Ministry of Trade – promoting Made in Ghana goods
 Ministry of Creative Arts and Culture – promoting tourism
 National Commission on Culture – promoting culture
 Ghana Tourism Authority – promoting tourism

Contribution to Academic Development
Okyeame Kwame is the African Dyslexia Association Ambassador, influencing policy and encouraging African parents to recognize and support children with dyslexia and neurodivergence.
Okyeame Kwame stands out because he is much more than a musician. He is a cultural ambassador, educator, advocate, and thought leader. Over the past three decades, he has consistently used his platform to promote national pride, social responsibility, and positive change in Ghana and beyond.
From pioneering health advocacy and climate change campaigns to inspiring higher education among artists, Okyeame Kwame has shown that artistry can go hand in hand with meaningful impact. His ventures into literature, theatre, personal branding, and entrepreneurship demonstrate his versatility and vision, making him a rare figure in the African creative industry who blends talent with purpose.
Celebrating his 50th birthday in the way Channel One TV is doing is not just a tribute to his musical achievements, but a recognition of a lifelong commitment to shaping society, promoting Ghanaian culture, and influencing generations.
Honoring him at this milestone is a celebration of a life dedicated to excellence, integrity, and service, setting a powerful example for current and future artistes, proving that success can be meaningful, socially responsible, and impactful.

Medikal Opens Up About Life After Fella, Says Co-Parenting Comes First

Following the breakup of their union, Medikal has stated that Fella Makafui and he are co-parenting, indicating that their daughter comes first, and everything else stays out of the way.

During a discussion on Starr Showbiz with Feeling Daddy, the rapper, born Samuel Adu Frimpong, spoke about how he and his former partner have settled into a calm co-parenting rhythm, built around mutual respect and shared responsibility.

“Oh, it’s a very cool one. We are co-parenting nicely. You know, she’s taking good care of Island,” he said.

He explained that their relationship today exists only within the scope of parenting. There are no casual visits or personal hangouts, just conversations when decisions about their daughter need to be made.

“I mean, we don’t meet and stuff. She doesn’t come home and stuff but I mean, we talk anytime that when there’s need be to talk concerning Island and what to do for Island,” the rapper clarified.

Medikal also pointed to the effort he puts into staying present in his daughter’s life, saying the time they share matters deeply to him and is always well spent.

“Anytime Island comes too, we spend a good time. We have a quality time. I take good care of her,” he added.

“My time in prison brought me closer to God” – Nana Agradaa claims

0

Former fetish priestess-turned-evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has opened up about the impact of her time in prison, describing it as a transformative period that strengthened her spiritual life.

Addressing her congregation, the controversial preacher said her time in custody brought her closer to God and reshaped her perspective on life and ministry.

“I was sent to prison, but today I can say to the glory of God that I do not regret it. What God has given me through this journey is invaluable and cannot be bought with money,” she told worshippers.

According to her, the experience has renewed her spiritual strength and given her a clearer sense of purpose as she continues her evangelical work.

Nana Agradaa was initially sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment on July 3, 2025, after being convicted of defrauding by false pretence and engaging in charlatanic advertisement.

However, following an appeal at the Amasaman High Court, the sentence was reduced to 12 calendar months, with the court describing the original punishment as excessive.

She was subsequently released from the Nsawam Female Prison after serving eight months, benefiting from Ghana’s remission policy, which allows inmates to be discharged after completing two-thirds of their sentence.

Since her release, Nana Agradaa has maintained that her time in prison marked a turning point in her life. She insists the experience has deepened her faith and reinforced her commitment to her ministry.

Mzbel Responds To Kwaku Manu Over Resurfaced Video Claims That She Received A House Gift From A Politician

0

Veteran Ghanaian musician Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, popularly known as Mzbel, has addressed claims made by Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu in a resurfaced 2020 video that has reignited public debate online.

In the old footage, Kwaku Manu weighed in on Mzbel’s widely publicised feud with actress Tracey Boakye, which at the time centred around an alleged wealthy individual believed by many to be a politician.

During his commentary, the actor criticised both women for their public dispute and urged them to put an end to the feud.

He also suggested that they had financially benefited from their alleged association with the unnamed individual, claiming they had been gifted houses and vehicles.

Reacting in a video shared on her Facebook page, Mzbel strongly refuted the claims, stating that they created a false narrative about her life and achievements.

According to the singer, she has never received any property or luxury items from any politician, whether from the National Democratic Congress or the New Patriotic Party.

“Nobody has bought a house for me… The house I live in belongs to me… The car I drive is mine,” she stated.

Mzbel emphasised that her assets, including her home and vehicles, were acquired through her music career and business ventures.

The musician expressed concern that such allegations could put her safety at risk, suggesting that false perceptions about her wealth could make her a target for criminal activity.

She also questioned why critics would assume she had received gifts from politicians when, according to her, she has not been supported by them.

Mzbel further revealed her dissatisfaction with the ruling NDC, stating that despite her efforts and contributions during the 2024 general elections, she has not received the level of recognition or opportunities she expected.

She indicated that she had anticipated bookings and support from the party following their return to power but claims she has been sidelined.

The resurfaced video and Mzbel’s response have sparked fresh conversations on social media about celebrity influence, political affiliations, and the assumptions often made about public figures’ sources of wealth.

Medikal Called Me An ‘Old Coin’ After Rejecting My Feature – Mzbel Alleges

0

Mzbel says a failed attempt to secure a feature from Medikal took an unexpected turn when she was later labelled an “old coin” in one of his songs, a moment she describes as both surprising and disappointing.

Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz, the singer, whose real name is Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, explained that her effort to collaborate with the rapper did not go as planned. According to her, the refusal was followed by what she considers a subtle but pointed attack in one of his songs.

“The last time I recorded a song, I wanted to feature someone but the person declined. He later went on to release a song in which he insulted me, calling me an ‘old coin.’ It was Medikal.

“I tried reaching out to him directly but couldn’t, so I contacted him through his wife, yet I still couldn’t get through. Later, during an interview, I mentioned that I had tried to reach him without success. The next moment, he released a song about me, referring to me as an ‘old coin,’” she said.

Even with that experience, Mzbel made it clear she still rates Medikal highly as an artist. She highlighted his ability to craft relatable lyrics and maintain a unique flow, insisting his talent remains undeniable.

“He is the best because his songs are easy for people to understand. I am disappointed but I am still open to working with him because I understand how the game works.

“His rap style would fit well with my music. Even though I am hurt, my staff still plays his songs at my workplace, and I can’t stop them. That aside, if he ever reaches out for a collaboration, I am always available,” Mzbel stressed.
