Medikal Called Me An ‘Old Coin’ After Rejecting My Feature – Mzbel Alleges

0

Mzbel says a failed attempt to secure a feature from Medikal took an unexpected turn when she was later labelled an “old coin” in one of his songs, a moment she describes as both surprising and disappointing.

Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz, the singer, whose real name is Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, explained that her effort to collaborate with the rapper did not go as planned. According to her, the refusal was followed by what she considers a subtle but pointed attack in one of his songs.

“The last time I recorded a song, I wanted to feature someone but the person declined. He later went on to release a song in which he insulted me, calling me an ‘old coin.’ It was Medikal.

“I tried reaching out to him directly but couldn’t, so I contacted him through his wife, yet I still couldn’t get through. Later, during an interview, I mentioned that I had tried to reach him without success. The next moment, he released a song about me, referring to me as an ‘old coin,’” she said.

Even with that experience, Mzbel made it clear she still rates Medikal highly as an artist. She highlighted his ability to craft relatable lyrics and maintain a unique flow, insisting his talent remains undeniable.

“He is the best because his songs are easy for people to understand. I am disappointed but I am still open to working with him because I understand how the game works.

“His rap style would fit well with my music. Even though I am hurt, my staff still plays his songs at my workplace, and I can’t stop them. That aside, if he ever reaches out for a collaboration, I am always available,” Mzbel stressed.

Kotoko And Phobia Can Never Be One – Stonebwoy Fuels Rivalry Talk

0

Talk of a possible easing of the long-standing friction between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy has been thrown back into doubt after Stonebwoy’s latest comments, even after a widely publicised moment of unity.

During the Ghana World Cup fundraising event, President John Dramani Mahama encouraged the two dancehall heavyweights into a symbolic embrace, a gesture many interpreted as a turning point in their relationship. However, Stonebwoy’s remarks at the 2026 World Cup fundraising launch held at the Kempinski Hotel suggested otherwise.

Rather than signalling reconciliation, he leaned into the idea of rivalry as a driving force, implying that the competitive edge between them still has a role to play in the music space.

He compared their dynamic to one of Ghana’s most famous football rivalries, using Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko as his reference point, and argued that such divisions can sustain excitement and public interest.

“This is a very important call to all of us. You know that Kotoko and Phobia [Hearts] can never be one. They are two different teams that must continue to maintain that competitive energy to bring joy to the nation. If I say this, you know what I mean,” he stated.

Stonebwoy also made it clear that he is not retreating from that competitive space, suggesting that it remains part of what fuels creativity and engagement within the industry.

At the same time, he urged caution in how the rivalry plays out, stressing the need for limits that preserve respect and the spirit of healthy competition without crossing into harmful territory.

“The minister said it is a healthy competition, which I believe it is. But we just have to be mindful, so we tone down things that could harm the spirit of this competition, especially the vulgarity, which is rarely found in the BHIM Nation camp,” the Burniton Music Group boss further stated.

Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale were among the high-profile figures at the campaign launch held at the Kempinski Hotel, where a mix of individuals and corporate organisations pledged funds toward the national team’s preparations for the global tournament.

Stonebwoy set the tone with a combined pledge of $101,000, made up of $81,000 in cash and an additional $20,000 in music services. Shortly after, Shatta Wale followed with a $100,000 commitment, reinforcing the growing wave of support as Ghana gears up for the competition.

Blakk Rasta Explains Why He Sent Back Dozens Of music Awards

0

Blakk Rasta has opened up about a bold decision from his past, revealing that he returned dozens of awards he had earned over the years after losing faith in how some schemes determine winners.

Speaking in a recent interview with Kafui Dey, the reggae artiste and broadcaster said the move was driven by his personal values and a growing unease with award systems that rely on paid voting.

Even after securing major honours, including “Best Reggae Song” at the Ghana Music Awards in 2002, he said doubts began to creep in about the integrity of platforms where artistes and fans are expected to spend money to influence results.

“This song won the best reggae song of the year at the Ghana Music Awards in 2002. I had to return all the plaques to the organisers. I sent all the awards I’ve ever received and they were about 40,” he said.

He made it clear that his decision cut across several award bodies, not just one organisation, as he reassessed the value of the recognitions he had received.

Blakk Rasta indicated that the idea of pushing for votes and encouraging fans to pay in order to win stripped the awards of their meaning and made him uncomfortable keeping them.

“All the awards that I had to vote for and pay money for, my spirit didn’t feel good carrying all these loads in my house. I said to them that thank you for honouring me, but I see that as dishonour because I had to pay via voting and convince my fans to pay for the awards,” he stated.

He also disclosed that he formally wrote to Charterhouse Ghana, organisers of the Ghana Music Awards, to communicate his decision, but claims his letter was met with silence.

“I realised I was cheap, so I didn’t want them. I wrote a letter and sent it to Charterhouse, but they didn’t even have the courtesy to write back,” he shared.

Still, he did not part with every accolade. One award, which he received in London without any voting or financial input, remains with him.

“In all the awards, there was only one I received without people voting, which I got from London, so I kept that one,” he explained.

He says his stance remains unchanged today, adding that he has no interest in participating in any award scheme that requires payment to vote.

“Then the awards started multiplying again. I’m not part of any awards programme that has to do with paying to vote,” Blakk Rasta further stated.

Joselyn Dumas Gets Scammed by MoMo fraudsters; Narrates how the whole incident happened

0

Ghanaian actress and television personality Joselyn Dumas has revealed how she lost a significant amount of money to a mobile money scam, using her experience to caution the public.

In a video shared on her social media platforms, the actress explained that the ordeal began when she attempted to upgrade her subscription with DStv Ghana.

According to her, she contacted an individual she believed to be a legitimate representative of the company. The person then sent her a link and requested her decoder details along with her mobile money (MoMo) PIN.

Joselyn Dumas recounted that immediately after sharing her number, she noticed suspicious activity on her phone.

“As soon as I said to him that was my number, I felt a vibration on my phone. All my money was emptied… he was able to get into my MoMo app,” she said.

She further disclosed that even after she managed to regain access to her account and deposited funds again, deductions continued to be made to cover unauthorised transactions.

Following the incident, the actress urged the public to be extremely cautious when dealing with online transactions and individuals claiming to represent companies.

“Never give your MoMo PINs, and always verify who you are dealing with,” she advised.

Her experience has added to growing concerns about mobile money fraud in Ghana, with many users taking to social media to share similar encounters and call for increased awareness and security measures.

Dancehall heavyweight Stonebwoy opens up on rejection and struggles behind his success

0

Award-winning Ghanaian dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy, has shared a candid reflection on the challenges he faced on his journey to success, revealing that rejection and ridicule played a major role in shaping his career.

Speaking during an X (formerly Twitter) Space organised by Node Eight, the Bhim Nation president opened up about the realities behind his rise in the music industry.

According to Stonebwoy, his path was far from easy, as he constantly faced doubt and mockery from others.

“I have faced rejection and ridicule all my life,” he said, adding that people often dismissed his abilities and ambitions.

The Nominate hitmaker explained that instead of allowing the negativity to break him, he used it as fuel to push harder and improve himself.

“People will laugh at your condition or play with what you think you have or what you believe you can do,” he stated.

“But it taught me to believe in myself and make sure that with every given opportunity, I came correct.”

Stonebwoy further disclosed that there were moments when opportunities slipped away despite his efforts, as decision-makers overlooked him.

“There have been several times your name goes into certain rooms and people will still choose otherwise. Realistically, they are not betting on you,” he noted.

He added that such situations are often meant to discourage individuals into giving up, but he remained determined to prove his doubters wrong.

“They are just putting you in a corner so that you can quit, but I keep proving them wrong,” he said.
