Dancehall heavyweight Stonebwoy opens up on rejection and struggles behind his success

0

Award-winning Ghanaian dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy, has shared a candid reflection on the challenges he faced on his journey to success, revealing that rejection and ridicule played a major role in shaping his career.

Speaking during an X (formerly Twitter) Space organised by Node Eight, the Bhim Nation president opened up about the realities behind his rise in the music industry.

According to Stonebwoy, his path was far from easy, as he constantly faced doubt and mockery from others.

“I have faced rejection and ridicule all my life,” he said, adding that people often dismissed his abilities and ambitions.

The Nominate hitmaker explained that instead of allowing the negativity to break him, he used it as fuel to push harder and improve himself.

“People will laugh at your condition or play with what you think you have or what you believe you can do,” he stated.

“But it taught me to believe in myself and make sure that with every given opportunity, I came correct.”

Stonebwoy further disclosed that there were moments when opportunities slipped away despite his efforts, as decision-makers overlooked him.

“There have been several times your name goes into certain rooms and people will still choose otherwise. Realistically, they are not betting on you,” he noted.

He added that such situations are often meant to discourage individuals into giving up, but he remained determined to prove his doubters wrong.

“They are just putting you in a corner so that you can quit, but I keep proving them wrong,” he said.

Abu Trica’s multi-million mansion gets confiscated by EOCO

0

A fresh development has emerged in the ongoing fraud case involving Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, after a viral video allegedly showed his residence marked for investigation.

The video, which has been widely circulated on TikTok, was recorded by a man identified as Baby Lion, who claims to be a neighbour of the embattled figure.

In the clip, the individual filmed the exterior of what is believed to be Abu Trica’s mansion. A prominent red notice fixed on the fence wall of the property quickly drew public attention.

The inscription on the wall read: “Notice! This property is a subject of EOCO investigation,” suggesting that the Economic and Organised Crime Office has officially tagged the property as part of its ongoing probe.

Although EOCO has not released a detailed public statement specifically addressing the mansion in the viral video, such markings are typically used to indicate that a property is under investigation in connection with suspected financial crimes.

The video has triggered widespread reactions online, with many social media users expressing surprise at the development. Some questioned how the situation escalated, while others referenced the luxurious lifestyle previously associated with Abu Trica.

In the caption accompanying the video, the neighbour claimed that the property had been confiscated, a statement that further fueled public discussion.

The development comes at a time when Abu Trica is already facing serious legal challenges, including potential extradition over alleged fraud-related offences.

The emergence of the video has added a new dimension to the case, drawing increased public scrutiny as investigations continue.

Charterhouse Replies Kwaw Kese, Defends Integrity of Ghana Music Awards

A fresh round of criticism targeting the Ghana Music Awards has drawn a measured response from Robert Klah, who is urging industry players to be more precise when raising concerns.

The Head of Public Events and Communications at Charterhouse Ghana addressed comments by Kwaw Kese, who recently described the awards scheme as “gob3.” Speaking during an appearance on Hitz FM on March 18, 2026, Klah said critiques carry different weight depending on who is making them and how clearly they are framed.

“The meaning of whatever submissions depends on where it’s coming from. If you’re someone who’s an industry stakeholder and have been part of this scheme before, it’s usually a bit difficult to reconcile that statement with who you are or who we perceive you to be,” he said.

Klah pointed out that broad, unspecific criticisms often create confusion rather than drive improvement, especially when it is unclear whether the entire awards structure or just a portion of it is being challenged.

“Sometimes, the comments are too generic, and you’re wondering whether the person is speaking against the entire scheme or there’s a particular component that they wish to address.

“If there’s a particular issue you have, you need to be able to be specific and narrow it down to this particular aspect that has this problem. Constructively, you submit and say we should address this,” he stated.

He added that disagreements are inevitable in an industry shaped by diverse opinions, noting that what may seem like the best fix to one individual might not align with the broader perspective of the organisers.

“In certain cases, we just need to understand that, while something from your perspective be the best solution, it doesn’t necessarily mean it is the best solution because we all see things differently,” he shared.

Apart from addressing the criticism itself, Klah also warned against the ripple effects of negative commentary on industry brands, stressing the need for balance and mutual respect.

“There’s nothing wrong with engaging or trying to address it. We are all about brands, so imagine if we all sat here and spoke negatively about someone’s brand, it may have an impact on you. What you don’t want to be done to you to a certain extent, you also don’t want to do it to others.

“These are mixed signals that we get, but it’s part of the system, so we usually understand. With a lot of education, it’s sometimes easier for people to appreciate what we do, so we will keep on educating and hoping they understand,” Robert Klah further stated.

He closed by reframing the awards as more than a single event, describing it as a platform with wider industry impact.

“The Ghana Music Awards is not just a night of trophy presentation; it’s an entire ecosystem which has huge economic value and has value also for the artistes and for the music industry,” Klah explained.

Selassie Ibrahim Expands Sel Pharma with Second Branch At Airport West

A year after stepping into the pharmaceutical space, Ghanaian actress and entrepreneur Selassie Ibrahim has expanded her growing business with the launch of a second Sel Pharma branch, this time in Airport West.

The new outlet was officially opened on March 18, 2026, drawing a mix of industry figures and public personalities. Among those present were Gifty Anti and gospel singer Empress Gifty, alongside other invited guests who gathered to support the milestone.

The expansion follows the debut of the first Sel Pharma branch in East Legon just a year ago, marking what appears to be a steady and deliberate move into healthcare entrepreneurship for Ibrahim. Her entry into the field, she explained, was not part of a long-term plan but something she was drawn into over time through encouragement from people close to her.

She recounted how persistent nudges from her circle gradually pushed her to consider opening a pharmacy, despite initially feeling unqualified for the space. With a brother working as a pharmacist in the UK and the support of a close friend, the idea began to take shape roughly a decade ago before finally materialising last year.

At the heart of Sel Pharma’s concept is a broader approach to pharmacy services. Beyond dispensing medication, the business is designed to offer round-the-clock service, delivery options and a retail-style experience that allows customers to walk in even when they are not seeking treatment. The setup blends healthcare with convenience, positioning the outlet as more than a traditional pharmacy.

The Airport West branch, she indicated, may appear modest on the surface, but represents a significant investment of time, effort and resources. The launch, in her view, signals only the beginning of what she hopes will become a larger journey.

She also acknowledged the role of media and online platforms in amplifying the brand’s visibility, noting that public awareness remains essential to the growth of the business.

The brief but significant ceremony, held on Tuesday, 17th March 2026, marked the formal presentation of credentials to Mrs. Sinare Baffoe ahead of her diplomatic posting to Madrid. In his remarks, President Mahama expressed confidence in the ambassador’s ability to effectively represent Ghana’s interests abroad, particularly in the areas of trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. Mrs. Sinare Baffoe, a respected figure in Ghana’s film industry and public service, is expected to bring her wealth of experience, visibility, and interpersonal acumen to the role. Her appointment has been widely viewed as a strategic move to enhance Ghana’s soft power on the international stage.

As Ambassador, she will be tasked with promoting Ghana’s foreign policy objectives, strengthening diplomatic ties, and facilitating opportunities for investment and collaboration between the two nations.

Her commissioning comes at a time when Ghana continues to expand its diplomatic footprint and reposition itself as a key player in global affairs, particularly through people-centered diplomacy and cultural representation.

Observers say her appointment could further boost Ghana’s image in Spain while opening new avenues for cooperation across sectors including arts, tourism, and international trade.

Court To Rule On Abu Trica Extradition On March 25

0

A decision on whether the extradition case against Frederick Kumi, popularly known as “Abu Trica,” can proceed is now just days away, with the Gbese District Court setting March 25 for its ruling on a key legal challenge.

At the centre of the dispute is a preliminary objection filed by Kumi’s legal team, which is seeking to halt the process triggered by a request from authorities in the United States. The request aims to have him transferred to face allegations of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Representing Abu Trica, lawyers led by Oliver Barker Vormawor have questioned the very basis of the extradition bid. Their argument hinges on the scope of the 1931 treaty governing extradition between Ghana and the United States, which they say does not cover the offences cited.

The defence contends that neither wire fraud nor money laundering appears on the treaty’s list of extraditable crimes. They also argue that the clauses dealing with conspiracy are narrowly defined and do not apply to the charges brought against their client.

The legal team insists that Ghana cannot invoke later domestic legislation to stretch the treaty beyond its original terms, maintaining that any extradition must strictly adhere to the agreement as it was first signed.

Outside the courtroom, the case has stirred public interest. A group of youth, reportedly from Swedru, gathered at the premises during proceedings, demanding Abu Trica’s release.

Sefa Speaks On Navigating Life Beyond Her Record Label

Stepping out from the structure of a record label has pushed Ghanaian singer Sefa into a phase she describes as demanding, but necessary for her growth.

Speaking on United Showbiz on March 15, 2026, she reflected on the realities of going solo, noting that the transition has required her to rethink how she handles both the creative and business sides of her career.

Her output since the split has been modest so far. Sefa said she has released just two songs, teaming up with Camidoh and Larruso, as she gradually finds her footing outside the label system. For her, the shift feels deeply personal.

“I’ve released about two songs after I left my record label. One with Camidoh and one with Larruso. I always say that when you leave your label, it’s like moving out of your parents’ house. You wouldn’t get it that easy and you would have to find your feet,” she explained.

She did not pretend the adjustment has been smooth. According to Sefa, the independent route comes with its share of setbacks, but each challenge has also shaped her understanding of the industry and her place in it.

“As time goes on, you will fall and rise again. It’s not easy, but it’s a learning process,” she said.

Amid the uncertainty, she pointed to one constant that has kept her going. Sefa credited the media for standing by her, saying their continued support has helped sustain her visibility and confidence during this rebuilding phase.

“The media have been lovely to me. I’m naturally a friendly person, and I respect everyone equally, whether I’m on a label or not.

“Other people in the media have been so welcoming and understanding to the extent that I wouldn’t know how to thank them. They promote my works so the media have been good,” Sefa stated.

Cinematographer Evander Kwame Agyeman Justifies The Need For Filmmakers Summit, Urges Quality And Cultural Focus

0

Renowned Ghanaian movie Director & Cinematographer , Evander Kwame Agyeman, has underscored the importance of filmmakers’ summits in advancing the growth of the local film industry.

The Veteran Cinematographer , who brings decades of experience in the entertainment sector, made these remarks while serving as a panel member at the Ashanti Filmmakers Summit held at Prempeh Assembly Hall on March 17, 2026. The event formed part of activities leading to the AshantiFest, organized under the leadership of Ashanti Regional Minister Hon. Dr Frank Amoakohene.

According to him, such summits have become essential platforms for filmmakers to showcase their work, build industry connections, and gain global exposure. He noted that they provide critical opportunities for networking, collaboration, learning, and distribution—key elements necessary for growth in the film industry.

He added that the summit also creates visibility for independent filmmakers whose productions may not reach mainstream audiences, while offering masterclasses, panel discussions, and workshops to help creatives sharpen their skills and stay aligned with evolving industry trends.

Speaking on digital film platforms, Mr. Evander Kwame Agyeman advised filmmakers and producers to prioritize content that reflects Ghanaian culture, stressing that international platforms such as DStv and other streaming services favor culturally rich stories. He cautioned against excessive nudity, smoking, and gangster-themed content.

The director further urged filmmakers to respect intellectual property laws by securing rights from music producers before using songs in their productions, warning that digital platforms strictly reject content that violates copyright regulations.

He also expressed concern over the growing trend of rushed productions, where some filmmakers complete multi-part movies within a few days. He emphasized that for films to be accepted on digital platforms, they must meet high production standards, urging industry players to focus on quality rather than speed.

To enhance success on digital platforms, he encouraged filmmakers to invest in strong storytelling, high-definition visuals, professional sound design, and effective marketing strategies, including social media promotion and partnerships with distribution platforms.

Mr. Evander Kwame Agyeman concluded that with the right approach, Ghanaian filmmakers can compete globally while preserving the country’s rich cultural identity.

Kwaw Kese Says Ghana Music Awards Has Turned Into Gob3

Kwaw Kese has publicly criticised the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, arguing that the nomination process has become so unclear that even people in the industry struggle to follow it.

In a recent post on X, the Ghanaian rapper stated the awards often reveal nominees without the public ever knowing how or when selections are made.

“Ghana Music Awards turn gob3. You just wake up one day and there’s a nominees party and you ask yourself how and when people got nominated,” he wrote.

This is far from the first time Kwaw Kese has aired his frustrations with the awards. In 2017, he caused a stir at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards when he arrived with a wheelbarrow packed with every award he had ever won from the event.

The wheelbarrow, boldly labeled ‘AWARDS FOR SALE,’ drew immediate attention in the foyer of the Accra International Conference Centre.

At the time, he told Graphic Showbiz that selling some of his VGMA awards while holding others in reserve was his way of protesting what he saw as the declining prestige of one of Ghana’s biggest music nights.

“I managed to sell some of the awards on Saturday, and although I did not have a fixed price, I sold them depending on the condition in which the awards were,” he said, emphasizing that the unusual act was a deliberate critique of the flawed awards system.
