Hammer Talks About Vernacular Limiting Rappers And Sarkodie’s Transformation Into An English Rapper

0

Renowned Ghanaian music producer, Hammer, known as Edward Nana Poku Osei, in his private life, has observed how vernacular limits rappers.

He stated in an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z that it is not easy for African rappers to have an international breakthrough if they use their local languages.

Hammer elucidated that the same cannot be said about songs, stating that the reach of rap on the global stage depends on the language used.

“It’s easy to sell vernacular in a singing format than in rap because ‘sing-songs’ have melody. Rap songs are words. So the beats drive rap songs. Listen to Zibote, we still don’t know what they were talking about but we love it because it is a song-song.

It is easier for a ‘sing-song’ to cross over, like Asake with the Yoruba. He can cross over with it because it is a ‘sing-song’ but if you rap in Yoruba you will go hungry,” Hammer said.

He also explained why Sarkodie has been doing more rap in English lately.

“Sarkodie has suffered out there. The reason he has transformed into an English rapper, is that he has to move on because the vernacular rap will limit you.”

Hammer opened up about how impressed he was with Sarkodie’s English rap delivery on his ‘No Pressure’ album.

Ghanaian filmmaker, Socrate Safo, has stated that Ex-President John Mahama did nothing for the creative arts industry during his time.

Scocrate, who is the Director for Creative Arts at the National Commission on Culture (NCC), made this statement on UTV’s United Showbiz program.

He claimed there were setbacks in the sector when Mr Mahama was in power.

However, Socrate Safo argued that the NPP government led by President Akufo-Addo has supported the sector very well.

“The industry suffered numerous disappointments during the NDC’s era because we witnessed John Mahama’s five-year tenure where nothing was achieved until this current government came into power,” he stated.

According to him, ongoing projects such as new theatres and the building of a creative arts school in Kumasi are evidence of the NPP government’s commitment.

“We’ve witnessed substantial growth in the industry; this government genuinely cares about it. They don’t operate in secrecy, favoring select individuals. Instead, their actions have a broad impact on the entire sector,” he said.

Socrate Safo maintained that the passage of the Creative Arts Bill and the establishment of a film authority attest to how supportive the NPP government has been to the creative arts sector.

His statement was disagreed by some of the panel members on the show.

Any woman having sekz before marriage is a prostitute – Shugatiti

0

Ghanaian actress Shugatiti has addressed critics who have labelled her a ‘prostitute’ based on her social media activities.

In a candid discussion with Fiifi Pratt on Kingdom FM, she argued that women who engage in sexual relationships with multiple men outside of marriage could be considered prostitutes based on their behaviour.

“People call me a prostitute, but in my opinion, if a woman is involved with multiple men without being married, she fits the definition of a prostitute. That’s how I see it. Personally, I have only dated one Nigerian,” Shugatiti asserted.

She stressed that prostitution extends beyond street solicitation, highlighting that it also includes those involved in multiple premarital relationships.

Expressing her indifference to online criticism, Shugatiti maintained that her perspective is rooted in a broader understanding of the term ‘prostitution.’

“Prostitution is not just about standing on the streets. It involves anyone who engages in sexual activities with multiple partners outside of marriage,” she explained.

Shugatiti cited an example of a woman she knows who is dating multiple men simultaneously, attributing this trend to economic challenges.

The comment has sparked mixed reactions on social media.

Actor, Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin, made a second appearance in court yesterday for his tragic accident that caused the death of a 3-year-old boy.

Police prosecutors have told the Asokore Mampong District Court that they are awaiting advice from the Attorney General’s Office in the case involving actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly called Lil Win.

Lil Win was granted GH¢50,000 bail with two sureties by the court after police arrested him on Monday, June 3, 2024.

The family of the three-year-old boy intensified calls for justice after the death of their relative, but police said delays in the arrest of Lil Win were due to his health condition.

Counsel for Lil Win, Nana Bonsu Kyeretwie, said the advice from the Attorney General’s Office will inform their next step in the matter.
