Artiste manager and entertainment pundit, Nana Poku Ashis has commented on the copyright infringement claim laid against Team Eternity.

A few days ago, Music producer, Kwame Mickey accused the Ghanaian Gospel music group of song theft.

He said in a live video that Team Eternity used a portion of Halleluyah Voices’ ‘Defe Defe’ song—composed by Osuani Afrifa of which he owns the copyright without permission.

Mickey asked the Gospel group to do the needful.

Reacting to this in a post sighted by Zionfelix.net, Ashis pointed out what Team Eternity did wrong.

While some people are defending the group, the artiste manager/entertainment pundit emphasised that they have infringed on the copyright of the composer.

Nana Poku Ashis urged them and others to give credit and acknowledge the original creators—and even before that, they should seek permission.

The accompanying music file is a merger of two songs currently at center of a brewing copyright infringement cooking pot.

If my memory serves me right, the first half of the file is a song written and composed by the legendary Osuani Afrifa.

Wofa Afrifa created that piece of art at the behest of music executive Kwame Micky and a certain Christiana Love aka Obaapa Christy who is Osuani’s niece.

The 2nd bit which is performed on stage, is a body of art composed and recorded by some young Christians. Team Eternity..

 Now this is what is in contention:

“Lifting” or “copying” a song is referred to as the act of using elements of another artist’s work without permission, often in the form of plagiarism or copyright infringement.

Sampling: Using a portion of another song, such as a melody or beat, without proper clearance or credit.

Copyright infringement: Using copyrighted material, such as melodies or lyrics, without proper permission or licensing.

Re-recording a melody or song without proper clearance or credit, often with slight modifications, is also referred to as copyright infringement. In this instance, it is very clear that they have infringed on the rights of the legend.

They should have just sought permission from the legend; respect is due where it must go. Let us not encourage such acts; just a phone call would have solved all these issues.

Artists must ensure they get proper clearance and obtain permission from the original creators before using their work.

Give credit: Acknowledge the original creators!
