Quack Pundits Are Making The Value Of Ghana Music Industry ‘Minus Zero’ – JMJ Complains

0

Music producer, Joshua Raphaelson, popularly known as JMJ, is unhappy about the way some people are given the chance to talk about issues in the entertainment industry.

He bemoaned how the value of the industry is getting to ‘minus zero’ because of unprofessional pundits.

JMJ, who was speaking on GTV said, “Sometimes, I feel shy telling my close mates that I’m actually part of this industry”.

The popular music producer stressed that well-versed individuals should be engaged.

“when there is a health issue, they bring health professionals.

“When there is an agric conversation, they bring farmers [and] people who are well-versed in the matter.”

He thinks the same cannot be said when it comes to entertainment in Ghana.

“…sometimes when you hear some people talking on TV, and they talking on behalf of all of us, it is saddening.
“You ask: ‘What is the reason you are qualified to be on this set?’,” he queried.

Since it will be risky to let laymen mislead the public, JMJ averred producers at media establishments like GBC are cautious about who to bring on their shows for discussion.

He then asked the audience to imagine if “they brought a fake doctor here and he starts giving wrong prescription and then the innocent person at home just swallows it.

“Entities like GBC know the danger so they’ll make sure they go for people who are well-versed in the conversation.”

JMJ further stated in the entertainment industry, “we are the only people that you’d hear [introduce someone for a conversation as]: ‘He’s a pundit, he’s this, he’s a music critic,” etc. However, the person may be inexperienced in discussing the topic at hand.

“And that’s how we grew our industry. That’s why its value is minus zero today,” he added.

He claimed he did not know that the list was confidential since it was not specified.

The GHAMRO chairman added he had no bad intentions when he posted the list.

“They had brought the list and because of the controversy, I don’t know anything about the project as to whether the list of songs should be confidential.

“I didn’t know. It was not on the letter with the list that they brought us and the person who brought it did not say any such thing. So for people to be clear that the thing that we wanted them to do has been done, I posted the first page. Before they called me to say that it should have been confidential.

“So because it’s their project, I have deleted it and I’m apologizing not because I’ve done anything wrong. But because as an institution and as the present leader of the institution, I want people to know that my intentions are clear,” he said.

However, Afua Asantewaa intends to break the record from December 24 to 27 in Accra by singing between 117 and 120 hours.

Currently, Sunil Waghmare from India, who sang for 105 hours in 2012 is the record holder.
