It Was An Amicable Resolution, Not A Court Order – Agradaa’s Lawyer Explains Claims Of GH¢100,000 Damages In Empress Gifty Case

0

A Lawyer for imprisoned televangelist Nana Agradaa has corrected reports surrounding her long-running legal dispute with gospel musician Empress Gifty, insisting that no court has ordered her to pay GH₵100,000 in damages.

According to the lawyer, the Tema High Court issued no such directive. He said the only agreement reached between the parties was for Agradaa to settle Empress Gifty’s legal fees, not to pay compensation. The clarification was made as Agradaa was brought back to court amid ongoing proceedings on her appeal against a 15-year jail term.

The rebuttal follows widespread media reports suggesting that the Tema High Court had ruled in favour of Empress Gifty and awarded her damages. Agradaa’s lawyer described those accounts as inaccurate and misleading.

Nana Agradaa, known in private life as Patricia Asiedua, is currently serving a 15-year sentence after an Accra High Court convicted her on 3 July 2025 of fraud and charlatanic advertising. The court held that she had deceived members of her church by claiming she could “double money,” a scheme that drew national attention after a viral video in 2022 showed distressed congregants alleging they had lost significant sums.

After a trial that stretched for nearly three years, the self-styled preacher was jailed and transferred to Nsawam Prison in the Eastern Region. Before her incarceration, she had already been at the centre of a public feud involving Empress Gifty and the singer’s husband, political activist Hopeson Adorye.

The dispute was triggered when Adorye openly criticised Agradaa over a controversial dollar-gifting episode linked to acting GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi. The exchange escalated when Agradaa allegedly directed attacks at Adorye and drew his wife into the row, making derogatory comments and unproven claims about their marriage and personal lives. That prompted Empress Gifty to file a GH₵20 million defamation suit against the preacher.

On 20 January 2025, reports emerged claiming the Tema High Court had ordered Agradaa to pay GH₵100,000 to the gospel singer as part of a settlement. Her legal team says that narrative is false.

Agradaa appeared again in court on 21 January as hearings resumed at the Amasaman High Court, where her appeal against the 15-year sentence is underway. Video from the courtroom showed her with her face partially covered, consistent with her appearance at earlier hearings.

Addressing journalists after the sitting, her lawyer sought to set the record straight, rejecting suggestions that the court had imposed damages on his client.

“It is not true that the Tema High Court directed Nana Agradaa to pay GH₵100,000 to Empress Gifty,” he said, adding that both sides had only agreed on the payment of legal costs.

He also appealed to the media to verify court proceedings carefully, warning that inaccurate reporting risks misleading the public on sensitive legal matters.

Nana Agradaa Hit With GH¢100,000 Defamation Damages In Empress Gifty Case

0

The Tema High Court has awarded GH¢100,000 in damages to gospel singer Empress Gifty Adorye in a defamation case against evangelist Patricia Asiedua, widely known as Nana Agradaa.

The decision, reported by GHOne News on January 20, 2026, follows a lawsuit Empress Gifty filed in May 2025 after a series of live social media broadcasts in which Agradaa was accused of making slanderous and libellous claims about the musician. The original suit sought GH¢20 million in damages.

Court records show the action was brought by Osei Aidoh Akpokavie & Co. at the Tema High Court. Beyond financial compensation, the case also asked the court to impose a perpetual injunction barring Agradaa from making further defamatory statements and to compel her to delete all related content from her social media pages.

The matter took a decisive turn in December 2025 when Agradaa, through her lawyers at Agyaa Asamani Law Consult, withdrew and disowned all allegations made against Empress Gifty. She conceded that the claims were untrue and said they were made “in the spur of the moment.”

As part of that retraction, Agradaa issued an unreserved apology to the gospel musician, admitting that her actions had harmed Empress Gifty’s reputation, professional career, and personal life. She also expressed regret to the singer’s family, friends, and associates.

“Who Am I?” Obrafour Reacts To Sarkodie’s Deep Respect

0

Veteran Ghanaian rapper Obrafour has talked about his relationship with Sarkodie, sharing why the Sarkcess Music boss’ public show of reverence often leaves him uncomfortable rather than flattered.

In a video shared on TikTok, the respected lyricist addressed the frequent moments when Sarkodie credits him as a key influence. Obrafour acknowledged playing a role early on but said the level of praise and humility directed at him feels excessive.

He pointed to Sarkodie’s stature as one of the most dominant forces in Ghanaian music and recalled their early creative intersection, including the track “Saa Okodie No,” which helped introduce the rapper to a wider audience. Despite that history, Obrafour maintained that Sarkodie owes him far less than the public gestures suggest.

“Sarkodie is huge but anytime he sees me and wants to kneel before me, it sometimes embarrasses me. I ask myself, who am I for Sarkodie to lie on the floor for me?” he said.

According to Obrafour, the admiration should be redirected away from any individual and toward God, whom he believes orchestrated Sarkodie’s success far beyond human effort.

Looking back on their first meeting, he said Sarkodie’s promise was evident from the start, but insisted that divine purpose, not mentorship alone, shaped the rapper’s rise.

“If I had it my way, I would channel that respect to the Maker. When I first met him, I told him who he was and what God was going to do with him,” he further stated.

Confirmation of his death was given by his manager, Nana Poku Ashis, according to Myjoyonline.com. No official statement has yet been issued on the circumstances surrounding his passing.

The news comes at a painful moment for the Asomafo family and the wider gospel fraternity. Just weeks ago, the group was shaken by the death of Maame Tiwa, a long-standing and influential member whose absence was deeply felt within the ensemble.

In recent years, Yaw Sarpong had largely withdrawn from the public eye as he managed ongoing health challenges. Although he made occasional appearances, much of his time was devoted to treatment and recovery.

Yaw Sarpong’s legacy is firmly etched into the foundations of Ghanaian gospel music. As the founder and leader of Yaw Sarpong and Asomafo, he helped define the direction of Akan gospel, blending theological depth with disciplined choral arrangements that set a standard for generations to follow.

Under his leadership, the group earned widespread recognition for music that was both spiritually grounded and musically refined. Their work influenced church choirs across the country and reshaped expectations of gospel performance and composition.

Songs such as Wo Haw Ne Hwan, Tie Obiaa, Aduro Yesu, and Awurade Kasa became timeless anthems, remaining a constant presence in church services and Christian gatherings nationwide.

In recognition of his decades of impact, Yaw Sarpong was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement award at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards, a moment that celebrated his lasting contribution to the sound, structure, and spiritual depth of Ghanaian gospel music.

His demise comes barely a month after his band partner, Maame Tiwaa, passed on.

Kwasi Aboagye Secures Injunction In Defamation Case Against Afia Schwar And Shatta Wale

0

The High Court of Justice, General Jurisdiction Division 8, presided over by His Lordship Justice Samuel Faraday Johnson, has granted an injunction restraining Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa (popularly known as Afia Schwar) and Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr. (known as Shatta Wale) from making further defamatory publications against broadcast journalist Solomon David Aboagye (Kwasi Aboagye).

The ruling came after Plaintiff’s lawyers successfully argued an application for default judgment following the Defendants’ failure to enter appearance despite being duly served by substituted service via various means ordered by the Court last year.

Background
• The suit was triggered by a TikTok live broadcast on May 6, 2024, in which the Defendants allegedly made and circulated defamatory statements against the Plaintiff.
• The statements accused him of criminal conduct, impotence, and infidelity, and were widely republished across social media platforms, attracting adverse commentary.
• The Plaintiff, through his lawyer, Samson Lardy Anyenini, filed a Writ of Summons and Statement of Claim in the latter part of 2024, seeking declarations, injunctions, retractions, apologies, and damages amounting to GHC 8 million.
• This was after they ignored a formal request by his lawyers for a retraction and apology, rather daring the PeaceFM entertainment show host to sue.
• After normal service attempts failed, the Court ordered substituted service in October 2024, which was duly effected. The Defendants, however, failed to respond or file a defence.

Latest Development

On October 15, 2025, the Court granted Relief 6 of the Plaintiff’s claims – a perpetual injunction restraining the Defendants from further defamatory comments. A certified true copy of the order has just been made available (see attached).

This ruling paves the way for the case to proceed to the damages stage, where the Plaintiff will be required to prove his entitlement to compensation for reputational harm.

A Plus Calls on Ghanaians to Keep NPP in Opposition for 20 Years

0

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has stirred public debate after calling on Ghanaians to allow the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remain in opposition for an extended period.

According to A Plus, the NPP needs ample time away from power to reflect, learn, and reform its approach to governance.

He argued that the party has much to learn from the current governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), particularly in the management of the economy and the general administration of the country.

In his view, the NPP should spend as long as 20 years in opposition to properly understand the needs of Ghanaians and avoid what he described as taking the electorate for granted when in power.

A Plus cited recent economic developments under the current administration to support his position. He pointed to reductions in port charges and fuel prices as examples of policies that, in his opinion, have brought some relief to Ghanaians.

To further illustrate his argument, the outspoken politician highlighted changes in the automobile market, suggesting that improved economic conditions have affected prices.

In a social media post, he wrote: “Not long ago, a Honda CR-V sold for about 750,000 Ghana cedis. Today, you can get it for about 450,000 Ghana cedis.”

His comments have since generated mixed reactions on social media, with supporters applauding his blunt assessment while critics argue that his call is politically charged and dismissive of the NPP’s record in government.

A Plus, known for his outspoken nature, has consistently used his platform to critique governance issues across party lines, and his latest remarks have once again placed him at the centre of Ghana’s political discourse.

Black Sherif’s Former Manager Breaks Silence After Court Ruling, Opens Up On Empire Deal Controversy

0

Black Sherif’s former manager, Shadrach Owusu Agyei, has finally broken his silence following the court ruling that brought their protracted legal battle to an end.

In his first detailed public account since the judgment, Shadrach Owusu Agyei shed light on how his fallout with the award-winning musician began, pointing to the controversial Empire record deal as the turning point in their relationship.

According to him, the issue emerged shortly after Black Sherif returned from a trip to Nigeria. He recounted that one morning, while on his way to work, the rapper called him with concerns about a contract that had been presented to him.

Shadrach explained that Black Sherif told him the deal had been encouraged by entertainment executive Aubrey Mensah. However, the artiste allegedly admitted that he did not fully understand the terms of the agreement and felt uneasy about what he had signed.

“When I finally saw the contract, I was shocked,” Shadrach said, explaining that the deal promised Black Sherif a sum of $30,000, but only $15,000 had been paid upfront. The remaining amount, according to the agreement, was earmarked for production purposes.

To the former manager, the structure of the deal raised serious concerns, particularly given the reported duration of the contract, which he claimed spanned 15 years. He questioned the logic behind tying such a long-term commitment to a relatively modest financial arrangement.

Adding to the confusion, Shadrach revealed that Black Sherif had previously cautioned against working with the same individuals involved in the deal. He claimed the rapper had once warned him never to engage with them, alleging that they had ignored him when he needed support and instead focused their attention on fellow artiste Yaw Tog.

Shadrach’s revelations come in the wake of the High Court’s decision, which dismissed most of the claims brought against Black Sherif by his former management, effectively ending the legal dispute between the two parties.
