John Peasah, popularly known for his role as Drogba in the hit Ghanaian TV series YOLO, has made an emotional plea to the public for financial assistance as he battles a debilitating illness.

The young actor has been diagnosed with a demyelinating disease — a serious medical condition that damages the protective covering of nerves in the brain, eyes, and spinal cord.

This condition, which has no known cure and can only be managed, poses severe health risks, including vision loss and immobility.

Peasah’s illness has already taken a toll on his mobility, leaving him unable to walk properly without support.

In 2023, he and his sister launched a GoFundMe campaign seeking $280,000 to cover the cost of his treatments as his condition worsened.

In a heartfelt post on his official Instagram page, John Peasah once again appealed to Ghanaians and well-wishers for help, sharing details of his bank and Mobile Money accounts to facilitate donations.

He also called on the public to help him reach philanthropic individuals and organisations that could offer financial and medical support as he continues his fight against the life-threatening disease.

Detailing the level of support, Sarkodie revealed that Shatta Wale had stepped in through his SHAXI business, providing transportation for the event. “He started with SHAXI, so all the cars I am moving out with right now are for Shatta Wale. The ones that will convey the artistes to the event are all sponsored by Shatta Wale,” Sarkodie added.

Questions were raised about why Stonebwoy and Black Sherif are missing from the lineup. Sarkodie clarified that their absence was purely down to time constraints.

“Most of the artistes won’t be able to come because of the timing. We can’t say we will reach out to everybody,” he explained.

I Was Surprised But Honoured – Rocky Dawuni On Receiving Ghanaian Diplomatic Passport

0

Ghanaian reggae legend and three-time Grammy nominee Rocky Dawuni says he was deeply humbled after being presented with a diplomatic passport by the government of Ghana, describing the recognition as both surprising and affirming.

Speaking in an interview with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio on Hitz FM, Dawuni recalled the moment his name was announced during the ceremony, admitting he did not expect such an honour.

“When they mentioned my name, I was like What’s going on? I was very surprised, but at the same time, I was very honoured. It was a moment of…I never did my work for the sake of accolades,” Dawuni said. “I have always believed that if your music or what you do is a calling…it’s God’s gift, the gratitude is your ability to do it on the highest level. Everything that comes as a relation to that is an add-on. It’s an honour, it’s a blessing.”

The singer-songwriter, known for blending reggae with Afrobeat and traditional Ghanaian rhythms, emphasized that his career has always been rooted in a mission larger than personal recognition.

“I was filled with gratitude that here I am, a child of Ghana who has always believed that my talent should be used to elevate my country, my continent, and my people…and I had the foreign minister bestowing upon me the opportunity and ability to even facilitate my work and as a cultural persona that represent my country officially,” he explained.

The diplomatic passport, typically reserved for government officials and envoys, was granted to Dawuni in recognition of his role as a cultural ambassador for Ghana on the global stage. Over the years, Dawuni has performed at international festivals, advocated for environmental sustainability, and partnered with global institutions such as the United Nations on development initiatives.

The government’s gesture, in Dawuni’s view, formalizes a role he has long embraced informally, carrying Ghana’s name and artistry abroad.

“I have been doing this myself for a long time, so I was excited, happy and grateful,” he said.

Dada KD Was Disappointed In The Way NPP Handled Him – Socrate Safo Reveals

0

Socrate Safo has disclosed that the late highlife musician Dada KD harboured disappointment toward the New Patriotic Party (NPP), despite throwing his weight behind the party during its 2016 campaign.

The veteran Ghanaian filmmaker described the singer as a selfless performer who never asked for financial reward in return for his efforts.

“He’s one person who was doing things, not expecting anything… Dada KD never charged for anything. He’s ready to mount the stage and move the crowd wherever we go,” Safo told GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie in an interview.

Yet, Safo revealed that the bond between the musician and the party was not without its strains.

“I also know that Dada KD was not happy about the way the party handled him. He was not happy because, the expectation at least, whatever appreciation that must come to him, didn’t,” he said.

Although he stopped short of accusing the NPP of completely neglecting the artist, Safo maintained that the recognition offered fell short of what Dada KD anticipated.

“As a brother, I will not stand here today and say all was rosy. No. I didn’t say NPP didn’t take care of him. But not as expected,” he averred.

Safo also stressed that on a national level, Ghanaians acknowledged Dada KD’s legacy, with respect and admiration that he genuinely earned.

“I think Ghana treated Dada KD well. They appreciated his works. They followed him. His good works. It was not something like an entitlement. He earned it. Yes, he earned the respect of the pioneers,” Socrate Safo stated.
