Gyakie Reveals Why Shatta Wale Was Featured On ‘Harmattan’

0

Gyakie has opened up about her decision to feature Shatta Wale on her song Harmattan, describing him as the ideal artiste for the project.

In a recent interview on MX24, the Ghanaian singer explained that once the track was complete, Shatta Wale was the first name that came to mind. According to her, his distinctive energy and lyrical power made him the perfect match.

“Harmattan is the third track on the project — I believe third or fourth, and it was with Shatta Wale. Harmattan is a dancehall record produced by Sosa, and if you listen to this track, nobody has to tell you who was supposed to ask which dancehall artiste you think is going to really kill it. Shatta Wale was the perfect person for the song,” she said.

Sarkodie Denies Political Ties, Explains Lyric Linked To NPP Campaign

Sarkodie has denied long-standing claims that he is linked to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), insisting he has no political affiliation.

The rapper addressed the matter during the Kumasi Rising Music, Media, and Tourism Dialogue held on September 25, 2025, at the IDL Conference Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Speaking in a conversation with broadcaster Serwaa Amihere, he made it clear that neither he nor his music has ever been tied to the ruling party.

“Do I have a connection with the NPP? I do not know any member of the party. People keep saying that I did a song for them, but they have not given me any money. I said a line in a verse about our ex-president, for which I still stand by,” Sarkodie said.

His remarks come as he prepares for his upcoming Rapperholic Homecoming concert.

Speculation about his political leanings began in 2020 after the release of his hit song Happy Day, which featured Kuami Eugene. The track included the line “Nana Toaso,” a slogan that was central to President Nana Akufo-Addo’s reelection campaign.

The phrase quickly fueled debate, with many concluding that Sarkodie had endorsed the NPP. The party even went on to use the track at its campaign rallies.

Sarkodie, however, clarified that his lyrics were inspired not by party politics but by the perceived benefits of the government’s free education policy. He noted that while critics might continue to link the song to a political agenda, the verse reflected his personal observation of its impact on society.

Sarkodie Is Ghana’s Greatest Rapper Of All Time – Kojo Cue Declares

Kojo Cue, a popular figure in Ghana’s rap scene, has said the title of the nation’s greatest belongs not to him but to Sarkodie.

Speaking in an interview on Kumasi-based Angel FM with MC Portfolio, Kojo Cue stressed that when it comes to overall influence, consistency, and measurable success, Sarkodie’s dominance cannot be contested.

“Sarkodie is the greatest rapper of all time. It is metrics, it’s undeniable. You can check everywhere. Based on consistent hits, based on how huge his fanbase is,” he said.

According to him, Sarkodie’s nationwide following, his unmatched catalogue of hits, and his record-setting number of awards leave no room for debate.

Kojo Cue acknowledged that Lord Kenya, had he remained in the industry, might have posed a challenge in terms of fan power and legacy. But Kenya’s early departure, he said, left Sarkodie in a class of his own.

“The only person I can think of who comes close to Sark in terms of fanbase is Lord Kenya, but because Lord Kenya stopped at a point, I don’t think he can go a hundred songs back-to-back with Sark. The most nominated, has won the most awards. Whether you like it or not, you cannot argue it,” he explained.

While he recognizes the thrill fans get from debates over who is the “best rapper,” Kojo Cue said that at this stage in his career, his focus is no longer on that contest.

Instead, he wants to be remembered for his craft as a songwriter, a role he believes is just as important to Ghana’s music history as rapping.
