Gospel Musician Yaw Sarpong Honoured

1

LEGENDARY Ghanaian gospel artiste, Osomafo Yaw Sarpong, has received an honorary doctorate degree in Sacred Music from the Ecclesiastical Bishop Leaders Conference of Africa (EBLCA), an affiliate of the Kayiwa International University, Uganda.

At a colourful event held in Accra last Saturday, Mr Sarpong, who is celebrating 40 years of a blissful music career, was decorated with the title for his invaluable contributions to the development of the country’s gospel music industry.

His band, the Asomafo Band, was also presented with a plaque in recognition of its support to the gospel music icon.

PRISON PROJECT

Currently, Mr Sarpong is working on an initiative dubbed: “The Prison Project” with the aim to touching and transforming lives in the country’s prisons.

The project, which was launched on August 26 this year, seeks to establish music centres in all the prison facilities in the country to help rehabilitate the inmates.

He has signed a six-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ghana Prison Service Board to allow the iconic gospel musician to implement the project.

“We want to restore hope to prisoners through music. So in the next six years, the focus will be to build music centres across the prisons because there are talents among the inmates that need to be developed,” Mr Sarpong told the Daily Graphic.

OTHER AWARDEES

Other personalities were honoured with the African Humanitarian Award for excelling in various fields of human endeavour.

Mr Oheneba Ntim-Barimah, an advocate of African medicine, won the award on health and community service, while Ms Elizabeth Akua Patterson was also celebrated for her role in girl-child education.

The Queen of the Mankesim Paramountcy in the Eastern Region, Nana Amazing Amissah-Arthur III, and a Development Chief of Tamale, Naa Gregory Arthur, each received a humanitarian award for contributing to development of chieftaincy and culture.

Lady Rev. Dr Abena Tay won the award on leadership, while the President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Mr Bice Osei Kufuor, won the music category.

The media personality award was presented to the General Manager of Unique FM, Mr Ebenezer Ogyawu.

DILIGENCE

In a speech read on his behalf, the Director of Awards and Honours at EBLCA, Prof. Tony Karbo, called for concerted efforts to tackle the development challenges facing the country rather than relying on external support.

He said what was more important was for the human and natural resources of the country to be properly tapped and channelled into critical areas of development.

He warned against negative perceptions and inferiority complex, saying that such tendencies stalled national development.

“Ghana, and for that matter Africa, has been a photocopier that always lives the way of the western world. It is time for leadership to lead the way to reverse that trend and look within for solution”.

ZYLOFON MEDIA Vs KUMAWOOD: Kwaku Manu Makes Huge Allegation

1

Kumawood poster boy Kwaku Manu has alleged that some movie makers tried taking cash from Zylofon Media for their selfish interest when the entertainment company approached them to express interest in helping the dying movie industry.

The top Kumawood star on Agyenkwa FM’s Saturday entertainment show told B Ice, host of the programme that the Zylofon Media before opening their Kumasi office approached some bigwigs in the Kumawood movie industry asking of how they can push money into the system but these people suggested that the money be given to them. According to him, the leaders whose names he is not ready to mention told the Nana Appiah Mensah-owned company officials that they know some individuals who can develop the dying industry so the money be given to them to frontline the idea.

He continued that Zylofon Media after smelling the egocentric behaviour of the leaders they met ended the meeting and flew back to Accra with their idea and cash to help the Kumawood Movie industry.

“Zylofon Media recently had a meeting with some individuals saying they want to help the Movie industry but some people told them they should give the money to them. The people said they should be given the money so that they can share it to some people. If Zylofon Media had listened to them, they would have thrown their money away.”

The ‘I’m love you’ coiner stressed that there is division in the Movie industry hence each individual fighting for their own interest to survive in life without thinking about the common business of the movie industry at large.

Patapaa Called Me For A Collabo, I Didn’t Contact Him – Lilwin Tells His Side Of The Story

10

Management of Kumawood actor cum musician, Kwadwo Nkansah aka Lil Win says Ghanaians have not been fair to him over the controversy surrounding his latest single, Corner Corner.

Abdul Zach Amissah, who speaks for Lil Win, says Ghanaians have pronounced judgement on the Ladder hitmaker without even hearing his side of the matter.Lil Win has since last week received constant bashing on social media following accusations by Agona Swedru based artiste, Patapaa, that he was trying to take his shine. Patapaa’s single, One Corner and its accompanying video is currently getting a lot of buzz everywhere.   However,  Abdul says, “It’s very disheartening to hear people lambast you for something you aren’t guilty of. Lil Win’s objective was to give a young artiste the platform to grow his brand but unfortunately, his good intent has been misinterpreted.” The saga began last week when Patapaa accused Lil Win of undermining him. According to him, Lil Win and his manager approached him for a collaboration after his song came out. However, the terms the actor’s camp proposed were not favourable to his management so they turned down the offer. Patapaa claimed Lil Win threatened to release a similar song which would bring down his One Corner.  “Lil Win called me and was angry I did not follow the orders of his manager who had asked me to send a demo of the song to their sound engineer. I was really surprised when his manager called again saying Lil Win recorded the song before me. I was wondering how that could happen when One Corner was all over the place,” he said. However, Amissah tells Showbiz a different story. According to him, they were rather approached by one Nana Yaw to help his artiste who happens to be Patapaa when they went to Adom FM to promote Lil Win’s song.Patapaa later contacted him (Amissah). Their aim at the time was to do a collaboration on One Corner remix. However, one of Patapaa’s managers called Godfred, said that was not possible since he had been nominated for an awards scheme in the Central Region and joint ownership of the song could deny him a chance to win the award. He rather suggested a remix on which Lil Win will feature but that was also rejected.Since they couldn’t come to any conclution,  both sides agreed to discuss the issues with their respective teams.

“Before we could conclude on the matter, Patapaa ran to the media to accuse Lil Win of using his popularity to steal his song. This is where I think Ghanaians have been unfair to Lil Win. They were quick to condemn him without knowing the details. Who can steal a song that is already in the public domain? It’s unfortunate things turned out this way but it’s a great lesson,” he added.

Oh What Happened? Zylofon Media Swerves Toosweet Annan

1

On June 20 this year, entertainment company Zylofon Media announced the signing of five actors at a press conference organised at their East Legon office.

Top officials of the company were tightlipped about the details of the contract and none of the five actors – Toosweet Annan, James Gardiner, Bibi Bright, Zynell Zuh and Benedicta Gafah was also willing to tell the world some of the juicy offers inked in the contract but it was obvious that the promises Zylofon Media gave them were better judging from what they’ve given to others.

Months back, Zionfelix.net reported that the 360 entertainment company has given each of the five actors a tear-rubber Toyota Fortuner. Well, that might not be what they promised actor Toosweet Annan because of what he said when he appeared on Celebrity Ride With Zionfelix show.

The handsome actor on the show explaining why he was driving in Zylofon Media’s car stated that he did not have one and the machine the company promised him was on its way coming. When asked about the car Zylofon Media assured him, he mentioned G-Wagon.

What then happened for Zylofon Media to present Toyota Fortuner to Toosweet Annan when he was waiting for G-Wagon?

Afia Schwarzenegger pops up in court

8

Popular actress, Afia Schwarzenegger, was Wednesday spotted at the premises of the Accra Circuit Court complex for the case in which her husband has been charged for circulating a nude video involving her and another man in bed.

The actress cum comedienne known in private life as Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa was seen moving from one courtroom to another in search of the exact court that will adjudicate on the matter.

But the case apparently could not be heard because the prosecution did not receive the full details pertaining to the case.

A source close to the case, however, informed Graphic Online that there is a likelihood that hearing will commence at the circuit court that has jurisdiction over domestic violence and gender-based crimes on Monday, September 25, 2017.

The husband of the actress, Lawrence Abrokwa, is expected to appear before the court and answer charges of assault, threat of harm and publication of obscene material.

Out of court settlement?

Abrokwa was arrested by the Achimota Police Command on September 8, 2017. After initial interrogations in the presence of his lawyer, Mr Maurice Ampaw, he was granted bail.

The case was expected to end up in court on September 11, 2017 but that did not happen leaving the hundreds of journalists that thronged the court premises disappointed.

It is unclear why the case has finally ended up in court after Abrokwa was reported to have initiated plans to settle the matter out of court amicably.

Earlier reports suggested Abrokwa’s legal team were making frantic attempts to settle the matter out of court.

They are, therefore, said to have petitioned the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service (CID) and the Attorney General’s Department (AG) to take a second look at the matter and possibly consider an out–of–court settlement.

Video

In the video, Abrokwa is said to have entered the room with a substance he claim was acid, threatening to pour it on his wife and her partner.

Both stood up in shock with the man trying to cover his nakedness with a blanket.

Afia Schwarzenegger, who was spotted in a headscarf and clothed in a white towel, was also seen trying to shield her nakedness from the camera.

The husband is heard reprimanding his wife for infidelity, while she is heard screaming and wailing uncontrollably.
