Why I Named Sarkodie Most Arrogant Artiste In Ghana – Hitz FM Presenter Doreen Avio Explains

99
Doreen Avio of Hitz FM

Hitz FM and Joy News anchor Doreen Avio has given reasons for naming Sarkodie as the most arrogant artiste she has come across in her field of work after social media commentators descended heavily on her for the comment.

The young lady on Monday edition of Andy Dosty’s show on Hitz FM mentioned Sarkodie when she was asked the most arrogant artiste in the country she has come across. This was after MzGee, her colleague named Medikal as her most arrogant musician because he demanded cash from her before he would grant an interview.

Following the flare-up of Sarkoholics on social media, Doreen has told Zionfelix.net she made such comments with good reasons. Explaining herself, the TV presenter disclosed that she made the statement because of the disrespect the BET award-winning act has shown to several media men and other renowned personalities in the country including Multimedia, Mark Okreku Mantey, Kwasi Aboagye and many others.

Narrating her sad encounter with Obidi, Doreen noted that she had heard a lot of people complaining about the ‘Adonai’ rapper’s arrogance but “I was surprised when I went for DJ Mensah’s all white party in 2016”.

“I talked to almost all the celebrities – Captain Planet, Keche, Akoo Nana, and so many of them at the party. It wasn’t a lengthy interview but just something short about the show.

I thought that just because Mensah was his DJ, it was cool for him to say something brief about the party. When I got there and said I wanted to interview him, he just looked at me with his team and said he wanted to relax so he is not ready to do the interview.

For me, I felt it was pure arrogance. I wasn’t expecting him to tell me everything happening in his camp but just something small about the party since he was there to have fun” she recounted.

The radio and TV personality who admitted Sarkodie is one of the biggest artistes in Ghana concluded that her comments do not mean she hates the musician but “I had heard it and I’ve experienced it so that is why I said he is arrogant.”

Medikal Vs. MzGee: Should Celebrities Demand Money Or Be Paid For Interviews?

1
Medikal

This issue is one that permeates all entertainment industries in the world, with the matter being extensively discussed in other quarters.

Medikal’s request to get paid for an interview with on-air-personality, MzGee, has stoked a debate on a subject that hardly gets discussed in a fledgeling Ghanaian entertainment industry.

There’s that side that supports the rapper for asking to be paid for the interview and of course, there’s that side that is chiding the artiste for the call.

So, who did wrong? MzGee; for truncating the interview and stating she has no money when she did not state if the interview was for her personal use or her station or her refusal to heed to the request?

Medikal; for being inconsiderate to ask to be paid for an interview with the same presenter had earlier provided him with the platform to promote his new single when he was coming up as a mainstream act?

MzGee of Hitz FM & Joy News

Yes, Celebrities Must Be Paid!

The only occasion where a celeb can be paid for an interview is when the network is using the celeb for an exclusive interview – an interview that is not connected to any trending news story that affects the celebrity at the moment.

For example: If MzGee wanted to interview Medikal together with his musician/model girlfriend, Sister Derbie on the possible topics – relationships in general or entertainers in love relationships, then, the celebs become experts who are being invited to speak on a particular subject.

As experts, the network must surely pay them for their expertise and for providing quality content for their programming, pay them for their time, leaving all their job schedules to drive or fly for the said interview.

No, They Must Not Be Paid!

Celebrities are not paid and have no right to even make demands for payment when the interview is based on a news story.

For example: If MzGee was requesting for the interview based on a news story that Medikal is now in a relationship with Sister Derbie or a story that, as lovers, they are doing songs or concerts together etc, then, there’s no talk of payment.

Anybody who requests to be paid to be interviewed on a news story that connects to his/her brand is not a serious-minded celebrity or just an ignoramus.

The Ideal Situation

It’s always good to learn from the best and the best, when it comes to entertainment structuring, is in the west!

In America, the American Federation of Television and Radio Actors (AFTRA ) and the Screen Actors’ Guild (SAG) has a policy, backed by legal framework that, celebrities, who are union members appearing on these shows get some payment for their appearance on networks that utilize such appearances as entertainment . A minimum of $726 per episode is charged for celebs that appear on major American Late Night Talk Shows.

Some Late Night Talk Shows like ‘Ellen, ‘Jimmel Kimmel’ and others do have a package for invited celebrities where sorted with their accommodation, flight tickets and stipend for food and others.

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) does pay sometimes, and does not pay sometimes. The station is said to pay guests who come on their channel as experts, ranging from a figure of £60 or more, but if connected to a news story, it pays nothing!

Publicity is key for every celeb, regardless

Money is definitely not everything, some will say, but it also changes situations, others will argue.

Every chance on any media platform is an opportunity to sell your brand. As a celebrity, who is in the business of show business, appearing for an interview is your chance to ‘show’ and do ‘business’ – the business of selling your personality, a new single, a new movie, a project in the works, a product – something!

To win over the people as a celebrity, publicity is such a powerful tool of your career. If you can cultivate genuine intrigue about your work, more people will be interested in it. If you can rock that publicity, it can lead to more work. That means more of you getting to fabricate and then exist inside the soul of another human being as a job. So, it’s a win – win – win, even if you are not getting paid for that interview!

Gospel Musicians Will Never Be Happy With DKB For Saying These Disgraceful Things About Them

4

Comedian DKB seems not to be happy with Ghanaian gospel musicians just because they hit him hard when he defended George Quaye over his bribery claims.

Derrick Kobina Bonney as he is known in real life has asked Ghanaian gospel musicians to put a stop to their evil behaviour because it does not suit their personality as ministers of the gospel. Speaking to Franky5 on Hitz FM, the comedian disclosed that gospel musicians in the country put up certain bad acts even secular artistes who are tagged sinners won’t exhibit.

The king of Ghana comedy on This Is Gospel entertainment show alleged that gospel musicians pay DJs to stop playing songs of their competitors. Not just that, he added that they also say no to events when they are told their keen competitors are on the bill.

As if these accusations against gospel musicians were not enough, DKB went ahead to classify modern Ghanaian gospel songs as ones, which lack spirit. He advised them to keep the name, gospel pure for the public to respect the genre of music.

“There are so many negative things being said about gospel musicians that they have to work on their own life and how they will be able to keep themselves clean.

There are so many mischievous things gospel musicians do those secular musicians won’t even think about. Sometimes I even ask myself are these people really ordained by God?

They should keep themselves clean and make the gospel genre more respectful and less scandalous genre. Some of the things I heard were very bad.

Even these days you hear gospel music and you don’t feel the anointing.” DKB told Franky5 on This Is Gospel Show.

Award winning Ghanaian artist Bisa KDe’i has moved to the United States for his tour — while many believe he made this trip for the purpose of his bookings in the States, Bisa KDe’i has confirmed to us the trip involves a lot of projects which include finalizing a deal with American rapper Kanye West.

Bisa KDe’i yesterday on HOT97 talked about his music genre; high life music and his plans of elevating the genre to be one of the biggest in the world.

To Bisa KDe’i, one of the many things he has in line for the uplifting of High life music in his country to the world is a deal with rapper Kanye West which he will disclose soon.

Bisa KDe’i was further asked by the host to talk more about the deal with the Yeezus rapper, — he replied by saying; it’s good to let actions speak instead of showing off or disclosing unconfirmed results, so for now permit me to talk less about this until everything goes on as planned.

Bisa KDe’i had his last performance in Charlotte last Saturday and to summarize his tour in the States, I can boldly confirm he has so far hosted the biggest concerts headlined by a single Ghanaian musician in different states, — of which I have witnessed in my industry career.

Born by name Ronald Kwaku Dei Appiah, the Ghanaian high life icon has a lot of global hit songs, which include Odor Carpenter, SAA, Mansa, Brother Brother, Life with Nigerian superstar Patoranking.

Will You Sign? Petition To Take Counsellor Lutterodt Off Ghanaian Radio Airwaves Begins

1

When some individuals find joy in listening to controversial marriage counselor George Lutterodt, others see him as a nuisance.

Mr. Lutterodt for the past years has been attributed to many quotes many believe shouldn’t have been said. Due to his constant advice to men and women on relationship certain people have described as unfortunate, one Nii Aryee has started a petition for National Media Commission (NMC) to take him off all radio platforms.

Mr. Aryee who needs 500 signatories for his petition to take the marriage counselor off radio giving reasons for the action said the reverend says nothing useful when he decides to speak.

“Hello, my name is Nii Aryee, an everyday Ghanaian young man. Anytime I sit down and listen to Counsellor Lutterodt speak on radio when he is given the platform to speak on issues concerning marriage and relationships, he says nothing useful. Counsellor Lutterodt has spewed very ridiculous and hateful statements about Ghanaian men and women. He even goes as far as meddling in the private love lives and affairs of Ghanaian celebrities and passes very unsavory comments. It is improper for him to be on Ghanaian public airwaves making the comments he makes.

The language Mr. Lutterodt uses is demeaning to women and men, and families should not have to hear it over the radio. Not anymore.

Enough is enough with this loud mouthed, often misinformed so-called Counsellor.” he wrote.

Zionfelix.net gathers that Nii Aryee will deliver the petition to National Media Commission after the 500 Ghanaians who believe counselor George Lutterodt should be taken off radio airwaves have signed the petition.

As at press time, 283 people had signed the appeal remaining 217 Ghanaians.
